An Indy platformer.

Spelunky, an addictive, highly-polished roguelike platformer full of arcade challenge, high adventure in randomly generated stages, and heaps of ancient treasures gleaming in the dark, is available 10% off on GOG.com. That's only $13.49 for the first week!

EXTRA! Don't miss our Website Spelunking Challenge! Find golden idols on GOG.com and win one of the cute Spelunky Minis!

A hat, a whip, an attitude, and hunger for adventure--that's all it takes to start your amazing journey into the ominous depths of the ancient temple. The legend has it, that the place holds--among its many secrets--the ultimate treasure of a lost civilization. Beware, though: the underground is swarming with strange monsters and it's full of traps that will end your adventure in the goriest, bloodiest possible ways. There's magic in these caverns and walls, though, that twists time and space. You'll be doomed to repeat your attempts at braving the trap-filled rooms again, and again--and each time they will look different. Such is the amazing power of this place. Will you dare to explore it?

Spelunky is a platformer that challenges you to beat a series of proceduraly-generated stages. Easy as it may seem at first, the task proves to be extremely challenging. Every step you take without dying is a success, and the exit seems to elude you in every level. Trying to grab as many riches on the way, rescue a girl or a boy trapped somewhere near, and make it to the end of the stage in a given time takes more than a little practice. With sleek 2D graphics, great gameplay diversity provided by many power-ups and special locations, and difficulty level that gets really extreme at times, this game will keep you entertained for many, many hours.

If you're the type of person who likes to laugh danger in the face, perform daring rescues, explore ancient ruins, and hunt for unimaginable riches, take on the life of a archaeologist/adventurer in Spelunky, for only $13.49! The 10% off discount offer will last until Thursday, August 15, at 9:59AM GMT.

keeveek: Another week without classic release, huh? So much for "at least one classic a week, we promisssss!"

But I guess what GOG really needs is 2d indie platformers that will hit Humble Bundle in less than a month.

Fred_DM: funny this got downrated even though it's completely true.

and who in their right mind buys indies outside of bundles anymore? i'd feel stupid paying $13 for a game you'll be able to purchase for as little as $1 after a few months or even weeks.
*support the developer.
*A lot of games will appear in a bundle, but you never know if/when that will happen. Botanicula appeared immediate, yet other games have never been in any kind of bundle.
*some bundle sites are shit (eg, Vodo who still haven't let me download one of the games I paid for, despite emailing them several times).
*If you want the game from a certain place (eg. Gog keys are seldom distributed in bundles).
*Some people have the means to/ prefer to spend more money now vs. waiting and paying less at some point in the future.
GOG, you're running out of time with that shower of classic releases! The summer is almost over! :(
good, got the game 3 months ago as a freebie on a mag dvd.
played it and immediately de-installed it.
a game for people with high frustration resistance.

amok: Hmm.... do not care so much about the OST, so I guess the daily challenge is the deal breaker for me, sorry.

xxxIndyxxx: Yeah that's another problem with these indies or newer games here. Because they are DRM free or for whatever reason there are a lot of them that are inferior to their counterparts. Maybe not a huge amount but enough to notice.
There's no problem, since you can simply choose not to buy them (here, or elsewhere). That's probably what I would do if GOG started selling games I am not interested to see here, e.g. games with online authentication DRM. Or DOS diskette games that I've had DRM-free for a couple of decades already, and the GOG version does not offer anything over what I have already.

For AAA titles, the savings with waiting will be much bigger. Just look how Spec Ops: The Line dipped under $5 in, what, half a year?

Summer lasts until September 21st. I guess there is still plenty of time :-)

Nice release otherwise. Wishlisted for now, I might pick it up later.

From my point of view, they have time until the end of August. :)

I'm sure they will hit some kind of Abandonia jackpot at that point!

Freeze Blaster + Recoil - Platform = Spiky Death

Old friend, it is good to see you again. :)
timppu, Abandonia actually isn't that great, OldGames.sk is the best because they actually wrap their DOS games in dosbox packages with installers/shortcuts just like GOG, which is great for CD-DOS games that require mounting

That's why I specifically mentioned "DOS diskette games". Maybe the Abandonia => GOG releases are not selling quite as well as many people are hoping (especially considering the extra legal and support work with them), hence the flux of indie games.

TurnipSlayerr: Afraid not. It does however include both the new and classic soundtracks.

G-Doc: ...aaaand, we do have an interesting Spelunky challenge in store for you. :-) It'll be announced soon.
I would like to know if the controls in the PC version is fully customizable?

And I also feel that with Steam having the Daily Challenge mode can visibly impact sales of the GoG version. Having free OST is nice, but having another Game Mode means the game lifespan is improved. It will be interesting to see what kind of counter GoG comes up with to address this.

PaterAlf: And I'd feel like a cheapskate if I would pay less than $1 for a game that gives me dozens of hours of fun.
that's why you CAN give more if you want. it's called "Pay What You Want". where have you been?

makes you wonder why anybody's actually still waiting for GOG releases...

But you would personally "feel stupid" for doing that, right? Do you also feel others are stupid for paying above the bare minimum?

And even more, why people like you still hang around here? You don't like the games here, you don't like the community... yet, here you are. You sound like SimonG, frankly.

I usually pay above the average. but i'm gonna say this anyway: most of the indies aren't worth the regular price, IMO. i'd never pay $10 or $15 for most indies. I make exceptions for bigger, more ambitious titles like Grimrock.

and then there's this: I do feel stupid purchasing a game at full price only for it to show up with a massive discount a mere few weeks later. I can't imagine anybody NOT feeling the same in that situation. and with indies you just know they'll either go 75% off or turn up in a bundle before long.

get off your high horse for a change, will you? I joined GOG because of good OLD games. doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize that GOG has departed from that path.

frankly, I dislike the direction GOG is taking. but words are cheap. money talks, which is why I haven't bought a game on GOG in ages whereas I've spent hundreds on other sites, including indie bundles.

if this is OK with you, then fine, but i'm not gonna join Roman in praising every crap release as "great". I couldn't care less about the games that have been released here recently, and i'm not gonna lie about it.

15$ base?

Mmh, I could see myself buy it but I will wait for the Humble release: this way I'll get the game DRM Free AND a Steam key.

I sincerely hope they won't be asses and still make the promotion, or it's a no-no.
