rodrolliv: Someone from Nordic mentioned in the past, that Spellforce 2 Faith in destiny and Scenarios won't be coming to GOG. Any changes/updates on that?
There may be an option to create a non-Steam version of Faith in Destiny, it is now more if GOG wants to release it and if they will accept the pricing we want to have for Faith in Destiny :) but this topic is not fully closed - there are discussions behind the scenes and I am quite positive that it will come on GOG in future ;)

rtcvb32: This is a new release correct? Interesting, I'll love to check it out later when I've finished a few more games.
It is a new release, yes :)

Lol? Where is Faith in Destiny? To tell you the truth, I expected this expansion to be exclusively Steamworks just like Faith in Destiny. Seems I was wrong.

JMich: Game page 404s, unlike this one

Edit: Sneaky fix while posting.
Now, colour me impressed. A Daedalic game with German language on GOG? Heavens, what has the world come to?

Yup, where is Faith in Destiny?! We jump over a segment of the story?!
Hey, do you think it's worth playing both SF games, or should I choose only the second (full)?
Would I miss\spoil some important events? (like in Baldur's Gate 2)
Are these games more RPG or RTS?

Ghorpm: Whoa! No half-naked chick on the cover? Is it a real SpellForce game?! The foundations of my universe are shaking!
Wait! I know! With Jack Keane around they were just afraid that putting a half naked chick on the cover is... not... advisable. For her own safety. Or for Jack's safety? Either way, mystery solved :D

Sorry for my stupid jokes, I'm in a weird mood today ;P
Wishlisting so I don't forget about it. Need to try the other Spellforce games I have before I purchase this one.

Great release on GOG!
Nice release but with an expensive gas boiler replacement wont have any money for quite some time but will get it when i eventually have the cash.
Is this series any good?.
^
Would like to know it as well? Does it have a good story or is it gameplay only?

One of the best combinations between RTS and RPG out there. Though i do like more the original Spellforce, i would not discard Spellforce 2. The stories are solid, there is some humor involved and the gameplay is good. The other succesful combination of RTS/RPG is the Warlords Battlecry series.

For the original, there is Spellforce Platinum on GOG. That means a complete edition ( base game + 2 expansions ). Should keep you busy quite a bit. The maps are not exactly tiny and need to be explored in both RTS and RPG modes. You will have to solve puzzles, but sometime is better to have an army ready nearby. You never know if a puzzle will spawn only the goodies or the goodies and some badass guardians. You will have to interact with NPC's and solve quests for them. You will have to eliminate some big armies with the right combination of troops. There will be some alternate path. And there will be hero runes ( which i've greatly missed in Spellforce 2 )

Spellforce 2 ditched the rune heroes system in the favor of a more traditional RPG system. The heroes in Spellforce 2 are recruited and can be leveled ( the rune heroes in Spellforce 1 were summoned and they were at a fixed level, but you could equip them - also the runes could be replaced with higher level hero runes ). The RPG part takes over in the second Spellforce, while introducing some city building/county management elements.

The stories are solid, with a lots of twists. Voice acting...well, not the best but i've seen worse. Soundtrack it's good.

Spellforce 2 had 3 expansions now, with only one missing on GOG. Hopefully, there will be added this year, along with the DLC's made for it.

Nice release and even before Steam (already have all the other titles in Steam but probably will grab all in a nice promo in the future)

Personally, I have very mixed opinion on it. As I said earlier in the thread, I really, really want to like it, but just can't. The first game is... What prevents me from really playing it is a lot of design flaws, crowned by the fact that upon loading a saved game, explored map bits conceal themselves again, so if you don't remember where did you find what, you're screwed. You only get the current POV from stuff you own at the time of loading - from characters/buildings, that is. Everything else you have to re-explore. Hated that.

Second game actually solves vast majority of similar problems that I've had with the original. That's only the technical side of the thing.

Gameplay is ... If any of those games came out as a pure RPG or a pure RTS, they would never be rated above average - you get a mediocre RPG and a mediocre RTS. If you are itching for some old-school RPGing and RTSing with everything good and bad associated with it, you'll get those in spades in these games - but even then, play an old-school RPG or an old-school RTS dedicated to the genre and it will be more entertaining.

The uniqueness of these games comes from connecting these two genres - and that's also my biggest issue with it. While it connects RTS and RPG, both RTS and RPG bits are clearly separated in gamepay - you have RPG segments, where you talk to NPCs, do quests and that kind of stuff, and then you have RTS bits, where you build up a base, construct units and the RPG aspect gets largely pushed into background (altho not completely). The game doesn't seemlessly interjoin the genres - it just kind of connects them in a functional fashion.

When it comes to story, well... You're mostly saving people in a fantasy setting

Can´t believe it...I still remember first and second chapter time ago, but I didn´t expect to see a new game settled in the original series ._. (Wishlisted, I´ll try again Spellforce 1 since I haven´t played it for years)
