The most dangerous game?

Sir, You are Being Hunted, a procedurally-generated British horror game in which tweed-wearing robots hunt you for sport, is now on GOG.com for $16.99 (15% off the full price) until 9:59 AM GMT on 08 May 2014.

The door opens. A gentleman of the robotic persuasion stands before, puffing gently on an anachronistic pipe. In its hands, a tray: on the tray, a card with subtle off-white coloring. It's tastefully thick--it even has a watermark! On it, the simple, dreaded salutation: Sir, you are being hunted. And with that, the horror unfolds...

In Sir, You are Being Hunted, you visit a procedurally-generated world where robots in tweed hunt you whilst guzzling tea and gobbling crumpets. You, in turn, must run, must hide, and must gather together the supplies to fight back. Even once you're armed, it's hardly a sure thing that you will manage to resist the uncaring hordes of upper-crust automata and survive the deadly hunt, as the brutal AI learns from you and gets tougher as you play.

With a variety of biomes, a smattering of foes, a dash of weapons, and a soupçon of bizarre gadgetry, Sir, You are Being Hunted is, without a doubt, the oddest entry to the survival horror genre in quite some time, but the fine team at the appropriately-named Big Robot, Ltd have brought it all together to make a fantastic experience. Jolly good rummy rot!

Pick up Sir You are Being Hunted for $16.99 (which is 15% off the full price) before 9:59 AM GMT on 08 May 2014. As always, it's 100% DRM-free.

Accatone: It looks like an interesting horror game. It's a pity that I had to go to its Steam page to watch the video since I can't watch it on GOG (Youtube is blocked in Turkey). GOG please don't link your videos to Youtube or any other website.

deonast: How odd I thought Turkey would be more open minded than that, from what I've heard of Atatürk
Because Turkey has the same prime minister (Recep Tayyip Erdoğan) for the past 12 years, and he is what we can say anti-Atatürk! He doesn't even mention Atatürk, ever! Whenever he mentions him, he calls him "Mustafa Kemal"; it's Atatürk's first name.

micktiegs_8: Well, you know gog can't legally do that. It would then become copyright infringement.
GOG can make its own videos. How come both Steam and Desura do not link their videos?

You tube is low cost, GOG don't have to pay for the bandwidth, and there is the potential for people looking on youtube to see them and come back to GOG. No idea why Steam and Desura don't, perhaps they have more customers from Turkey :)
Very cool. This humble bundle/Steam game was actually on my wish list. Now I can cross it off when I buy it from GOG ;)
Happily surprised to see this turn up here as well. Seems like it might be a touch pricey for the concept, unless it turns out to be as deep as Don't Starve and its ilk. But still a good release, and one I will likely pick up eventually.

I know what you're saying, but don't those videos originate on Steam or Desura in the first place? The game devs would most likely put the trailers directly on those places to start.
Apparently I can not write reviews anymore (not even when they are glowingly positive, like the one I wronte on Consortium yesterday), so here is my SyabH one, because I hate to write stuff for 20mn and then losing it :

SyabH is a fantastic game, as long as you accept the fact that you are not supposed to run around shooting everything in sight. It is a game rewarding a slow, thoughtful approach to problems,(hopefully not followed by a panicked run to the next forest whilst hounds close in and you are getting shot at by viciously posh robots.)
You CAN lower the difficulty by selecting "better" equipment at the start, and depending on what kind of resources you find the game might range from insane to walk in a dark and frightening park, but it is never going to be really easy

The graphics are stylised but work very well to convey the atmosphere of an idealized british landscape. The soundscape fits the mood perfectly too.

The robots are both funny in their behaviour and scary in their relentlessness and the general mood of the game is akin to being in an episode of The Avengers (Emma Peel/John Steed, NOT Thor/Loki) or Twillight Zone (nothing to do with sparkly vampires:P

The main point of criticism I can offer is that you can not enter buildings, but, to be honest, it doesn't detract from the great gameplay.

(disclaimer : I bought it while it was in beta, and not here)

I can't say I know for sure but I'd assume the Developers provide a basic content kit to distributors like GOG, steam etc, probably a demo video, maybe rights to edit the video to include their own branding, screenshots and game description information. Steam / Desura choose to host their own videos GOG / Humble bundle and some others use you tube. You've got to have content streaming infrastructure if you expect heavy streaming of videos, and with youtube some distributors avoid that.

Well with all that it is about time I watch this game's video then :)

That's a pity. Maybe in a later iteration, or a sequel, one might hope! Being purused into a house and moving room to room would be a great mechanic.

Still, I really must get this game some time.

Is it a "winnable" game? or is it just a "see how long you can survive for" game?
looks really nice!

but nothing for my old machine. if it were old game, i'd pick it up! :-)

Winnable, you need to find all fragments from the various islands, deliver them to the standing stone in the central one and escape.

For what it's worth, your review did post on the game page. And it was helpful!

Sounds like a fun title. Watching the video it called to mind some of the missions in Operation: Flashpoint.
I'm gald to see Sir, You Are Being Hunted here. It looks like an excellent premise and has been "on my radar" for a while.

I heard rumors of an indie release that's not very popular on GOG's wishlist upcoming and think SYABH is a great example of a promising new game that's overlooked by the "retro" oriented crowd here. Classic games are great, but if GOG keeps stuff like this up I'll be happy.

Excellent, thanks for the info! It's definitely on my list of games to get. I'm just still working on my list of games to finish before I get more, and right now that includes Mass Effect 1 and Dungeon Siege 2... so there is a little way to go!
Ooh,...what a nice surprise!

I guess, this is now officially released (=end of Early-Access)?

Ah, not entirely...: http://www.big-robot.com/tag/sir-you-are-being-hunted/

Quote:
"There will still be a few things to come after v1.0, as well as ongoing fixes and support, including multiplayer (no, no date on that yet, we’ve still got a way to go!) and also a customisation patch that will allow you mess with the game generation in-menu, rather than just in the back-end XML files. But we’ll get to those later!

For now, the big message of this latest update is: help us bug hunt!
We need as many people as possible to pile in, find problems, share logfiles, and help us get this game into the best shape it can be. There’s a bunch of changes up today, including major performance improvements. Go and try it out!"

Because that was the one thing that kept me from buying it...well, and the fact, it was Steam exclusive (?)...

Alas! To buy (now), or not to buy (now), that is the question...

Edit: because italics didn't work out, the way they were ment to

Really happy to see this game out of early access and on GOG.

Wishlisted for now. I need to see Friday's promo before making a decision.
