Urban planner's single-player offline paradise!

SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition, the fan-favorite iteration in the long line of legendary urban planning simulations with a myriad of design options and factors to tweak and track, creating the ultimate sense of life-like complexity, is available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next 72 hours! Includes the Rush Hour expansion pack.

It all started 30 years ago, in 1984. An up-and-coming brilliant game designer by the name of Will Wright created an incredibly believable virtual city that astound the gamers with its level of detail and the amount of little things that were constantly happening in it. The city, though, served only the purpose of an interesting background to an action-focused title, Raid on Bungeling Bay. It would surely feel like a waste to see such a sophisticated simulation only as a "bells-and-whistles" addition. Luckily, 5 years later, Will Wright gave the gaming world the first SimCity game. The one we offer you today, the fourth--and according to many gamers, the best--part of the series is the result of almost a quarter of century worth of a concept's evolution.

In SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition you don't just build your city, you breathe life into it. Create a megalopolis by weaving together a tapestry of cities ranging from a bedroom community to a high tech urban center or a vacation destination to a farming village. You can create a region of interconnected cities sharing and competing for resources that are linked by a fully integrated transportation network. Use "god-like" powers to create mountain ranges, carve valleys, and lay rivers to construct the most realistic metropolis imaginable. The new simulation engine offers immediate feedback so you can react to the needs of an expanding metropolis. Now individual buildings and their lots provide you with feedback. Use the My Sim features to personalize your Sim and immediately move him or her into any area and watch them experience life around town and get instant feedback on the city's progress. Each decision has a greater impact and gives you the ability to respond more effectively. The DRM-Free Deluxe Edition offered here, comes complete with the Rush Hour expansion, for an even more in-depth urban experience!

Every game in this great series offers the player hundreds of hours of fun and easily adjustable challenge to create a sense of immersion in a living, breathing metropolis. They all come with their very own special flavor, but most gamers agree that SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition is the most delicious dish of them all. Grab it now, on GOG.com, for only $4.99! Remember to hurry, because the 75% release discount offer lasts for 72 hours only, that is until Sunday, June 1, at 9:59AM GMT.

How does the game play? I own SimCity 4 on Steam already, but it chugs pretty bad even on my rig (which would have killed anything 10 years ago). Is the GOG version smoother, or does is the choppiness a design problem?
Man, I'm really happy to see it climb the charts so quickly! It's already over 125 games high from the bottom of the chart!

Hopefully this will reinvigorate interest from other big publishers to release their highly-desired classics here!

Exclamation marks!
Hmm, the Sim city 4 i bougth on Steam was constantly crashing on my machine so i didnt bother to play it anymore.
Is the GoG version more stable?

And snagged. Definitely worth it for $5.

You guys might want to change the name of the manual download. After opening the path in the Downloader I was all "sim_city_4_de_manual.zip? I could've sworn language was set to English not German" Then the "deluxe" bit of the title hit me.
People that are buying, please try it out and report back how the game is working.

Crosmando: Hey guys, if you wan to play this game in widescreen resolutions, go to properties of the shortcut on your desktop and add "-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080 -introff" to the end of the target line (without the quotation marks). Change the "r1920x1080" part to to whatever you resolution you want.
Minor correction, it's -intro:off

The HK one looks awesome. Whats a B.A.T. though?

I need to free up some space on my HD before I can install this. But I will have to do it soon, I'm getting the itch to play. The last SimCity I played was 2000. Will be nice to see what they did with the game in the 10 years between SC2K and SC4. SC2K still is one of my favorite games.

BAT stands for Building Architect Tool. Basically it means fan-created buildings using that tool which involves the process of creating a 3D model in GMAX or some other compatible 3D modelling software, then using the exporter Maxis provided to render 4 perspectives both day and night renders and it exports it as a building to use in Simcity 4 and the creator adds further functionalities to the building and uploads the final version for use to the other fans.

Most city journals feature BATs and other fan-made content.

Thanks! I remember messing around with the Urban Renewal Kit (URK) for SC2K which let you create your own buildings. I didn't have the artistic talent to make anything good. Doing it in 3D makes it a little bit easier, don't have to manually draw all four perspectives like in the URK. I wonder how well the results would be using the Google Maps method of building modeling: making a cube then mapping photos of the building as textures. Might have to try it ....

Seems to be running fine on my Win 8 lappie. Granted, I only went through some of the tutorial stuff so far. There was some choppiness in the big city tutorial map, but after turning down shadows - the only option that seemed to have any real performance impact - that pretty much went away. No big loss either. Those shadows aren't that noticeable or good-looking anyhow.
