Urban planner's single-player offline paradise!

SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition, the fan-favorite iteration in the long line of legendary urban planning simulations with a myriad of design options and factors to tweak and track, creating the ultimate sense of life-like complexity, is available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next 72 hours! Includes the Rush Hour expansion pack.

It all started 30 years ago, in 1984. An up-and-coming brilliant game designer by the name of Will Wright created an incredibly believable virtual city that astound the gamers with its level of detail and the amount of little things that were constantly happening in it. The city, though, served only the purpose of an interesting background to an action-focused title, Raid on Bungeling Bay. It would surely feel like a waste to see such a sophisticated simulation only as a "bells-and-whistles" addition. Luckily, 5 years later, Will Wright gave the gaming world the first SimCity game. The one we offer you today, the fourth--and according to many gamers, the best--part of the series is the result of almost a quarter of century worth of a concept's evolution.

In SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition you don't just build your city, you breathe life into it. Create a megalopolis by weaving together a tapestry of cities ranging from a bedroom community to a high tech urban center or a vacation destination to a farming village. You can create a region of interconnected cities sharing and competing for resources that are linked by a fully integrated transportation network. Use "god-like" powers to create mountain ranges, carve valleys, and lay rivers to construct the most realistic metropolis imaginable. The new simulation engine offers immediate feedback so you can react to the needs of an expanding metropolis. Now individual buildings and their lots provide you with feedback. Use the My Sim features to personalize your Sim and immediately move him or her into any area and watch them experience life around town and get instant feedback on the city's progress. Each decision has a greater impact and gives you the ability to respond more effectively. The DRM-Free Deluxe Edition offered here, comes complete with the Rush Hour expansion, for an even more in-depth urban experience!

Every game in this great series offers the player hundreds of hours of fun and easily adjustable challenge to create a sense of immersion in a living, breathing metropolis. They all come with their very own special flavor, but most gamers agree that SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition is the most delicious dish of them all. Grab it now, on GOG.com, for only $4.99! Remember to hurry, because the 75% release discount offer lasts for 72 hours only, that is until Sunday, June 1, at 9:59AM GMT.

Matruchus: Oh, come on people quit whining you have several games on gog that are around 19.99$ and are 10 or a bit less years old.

For example:

Stalker Shadows of Chernoybl 7 years old 19.99$
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 10 years old 19.99$
Never Winter Nights 2 - 8 years old 19.99$

This pricing is nothing new here. Get over it. Just buy it in a sale if you like. You have a nice opportunity now if you buy it for 4.99$ or 3.83€.

Either way thanks gog for 3 releases today. You are upping your standards a lot today :)
That's really rich coming from you. ;-P

Is this version of the game more stable than the Steam version, did GOG fix it up or just strip the DRM?

That's the only thing I care about.

JudasIscariot: Or those Wednesday gem promos :) Lots of options, really :)
Or the Thursday Thursday Thursday's.
It will take more than releasing a game on GOG to make me forgive EA for shutting down Mythic Entertainment today.

I skimmed their list of developed games and didn't see anything that struck me. What particular game do you associate with them in a good way? I see that they apparently developed the mobile version of Dungeon Keeper, but that certainly wasn't very well received...

Honestly, I don't think there was any DRM to strip. It's been been available elsewhere (including Amazon) via DRM free download for quite a while.

Also, it's my understanding that the instability was just part of the original game, not compatibility issues, which is usually the type of thing that GOG "fixes up".

Dark Age of Camelot, one of my first and favorite MMOs. I personally blame EA for DK Mobile. What studio would make a game like that by choice? Needs a publisher to force the monetization practices on them.

Ah, that explains it. The most time I ever spent on an MMO was Sierra's "The Realm" in 1996. I think I played for a good 20 minutes... Haven't touched the stuff since.

I used to be nostalgic about developers, but knowing how much the actual employees of devs can completely change from one project to the next anymore, I don't give it nearly as much weight as I used to.
YAY, SimCity 4 DRM free on GOG, and at a great release price as well! Aaand, insta-bought! :-) It's exactly for these kind of games that I signed up with GOG (found some interesting things between the newer games and indies, but that's not really why I'm here ;-) ), so I'm glad to see these kind of releases still coming!!! *two thumbs up* Keep those classic EA/Maxis games coming GOG, and if you can, throw in the occasional classic Sierra/Activision game as well would you, it's been waaaaaaay too long since we had one of those released on here. Thanks GOG! :-)

Is Steam's version unstable? I'm guessing they play about the same although of course GOG has tested the game on a wide variety of systems. And of course you can always contact Support or, if the game won't run, request a refund.

EDIT: Just to be clear, GOG just makes the game run the same it did back in the day. If the game was unstable back then (stuff in the original source code), it will probably be unstable now.

avatar
Crosmando: Hey guys, if you wan to play this game in widescreen resolutions, go to properties of the shortcut on your desktop and add "-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080 -introff" to the end of the target line (without the quotation marks). Change the "r1920x1080" part to to whatever you resolution you want.

Could you please answer questions about mac version? Will you add mac version, and if you will, when are you planning to do this (approximately)?

As of right now, we can't add the Mac version and I don't know if or when we'll be able to. I hope that helps somewhat :)
