Urban planner's single-player offline paradise!

SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition, the fan-favorite iteration in the long line of legendary urban planning simulations with a myriad of design options and factors to tweak and track, creating the ultimate sense of life-like complexity, is available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next 72 hours! Includes the Rush Hour expansion pack.

It all started 30 years ago, in 1984. An up-and-coming brilliant game designer by the name of Will Wright created an incredibly believable virtual city that astound the gamers with its level of detail and the amount of little things that were constantly happening in it. The city, though, served only the purpose of an interesting background to an action-focused title, Raid on Bungeling Bay. It would surely feel like a waste to see such a sophisticated simulation only as a "bells-and-whistles" addition. Luckily, 5 years later, Will Wright gave the gaming world the first SimCity game. The one we offer you today, the fourth--and according to many gamers, the best--part of the series is the result of almost a quarter of century worth of a concept's evolution.

In SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition you don't just build your city, you breathe life into it. Create a megalopolis by weaving together a tapestry of cities ranging from a bedroom community to a high tech urban center or a vacation destination to a farming village. You can create a region of interconnected cities sharing and competing for resources that are linked by a fully integrated transportation network. Use "god-like" powers to create mountain ranges, carve valleys, and lay rivers to construct the most realistic metropolis imaginable. The new simulation engine offers immediate feedback so you can react to the needs of an expanding metropolis. Now individual buildings and their lots provide you with feedback. Use the My Sim features to personalize your Sim and immediately move him or her into any area and watch them experience life around town and get instant feedback on the city's progress. Each decision has a greater impact and gives you the ability to respond more effectively. The DRM-Free Deluxe Edition offered here, comes complete with the Rush Hour expansion, for an even more in-depth urban experience!

Every game in this great series offers the player hundreds of hours of fun and easily adjustable challenge to create a sense of immersion in a living, breathing metropolis. They all come with their very own special flavor, but most gamers agree that SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition is the most delicious dish of them all. Grab it now, on GOG.com, for only $4.99! Remember to hurry, because the 75% release discount offer lasts for 72 hours only, that is until Sunday, June 1, at 9:59AM GMT.

tfishell: GOG.

I literally clapped out loud.

YOU MARVELOUS BASTARDS.

Grargar: tfishell, you should continue saying that the next release will be Tycoon City: New York. That way, we will keep on getting some nice classics. :D
Oh I will, don't worry. ;-)

Hopefully, with next week's release of Tycoon City: New York, it will miraculously change into The Neverhood! (as I've said before, with SCUMMVM's support of it, surely it will show up soon)

htown1980: I thought this release would make people happy but it appears people are still willing to complain.
Similar to Reddit, remember that GOG members are not one giant entity. We all have a variety of opinions, and some people just aren't interested in SC4! I don't view it as complaining so much as giving a different perspective, but I guess some people feel the need to downvote because they're different.

Another title from EA... Bring the C&C games next, will ya ?
Is there DRM?

BananaJane: Is there DRM?
Not sure if serious, but just in case: no.

IAmSinistar: Picked it up as a gift key. I guess I'll found out after the initial furor whether I should redeem it for myself or not. I expect the key will be an attractive gift item later if not, once this goes back to retail price.
Good idea, I'll do the same.

Tomatko: This was something awsome gog. I was really hopping to get something from EA. You made my day.. and the price (for 72hrs) is something that can't be overlooked. Now, some more games to add to catalog:

NFS 1,2,3,4,5,6 - They were a benchmark for racers (well, except 6, maybe 5, but 5 was really great)
C&C - as westwood is belonging to them, it would be also great :)
Harry Potter - hehe :)
NHL - yeah.. some cool good old NHL :)
FIFA - i remember that 97 and 98 :)
BATTLEFIELD 1945,2 - WHOOOAAA.. yes, i know that they shutdown servers but for LAN ;)
Black and white - anyone ?

Once again.. thx :)
I wouldn't hold my breath for those games tied in with third party IPs...
Thanks GOG, much appreciated . . .
Nice, I guess I can replace my GamersGate copy. So when's Sim City 3000 coming?
This game is too expensive
Well, it's at a low price right now (75% off). You can buy it now for that price. =/

BananaJane: Is there DRM?
Yes, plenty of it, you will get bored of Double-track Railroad Management.
Time for another Mod Spotlight. SimCity4 NAM!
I have, like, four of these by now. Oh well, can't hurt to wishlist, since it really is a good game and I play it periodically. But still, late to the party and with a "wholesome" price range.
I've never actually played a SimCity game despite always being interested. I've purchased a bunch of games on GOG that are stockpiling on my virtual shelves, so somebody convince me as to why I should buy SimCity 4.
I'm sorry, I can't think strait, I'm still trying to get over the DRM question. XD

IAmSinistar: A question, please. Having not played any SimCity since the original, can anyone tell me what distinguishes this from others in the series? It is still basically the same just with better graphics (i.e., you are trying to build the most sustainable city), or are there deeper elements now that push it closer to something like Tropico or Banished?

Thanks for any info you can provide about what makes this particular iteration stand out.
I hope someone will be able to provide a more updated answer since I haven't played it in awhile but SimCity 4 is presented the same way that 2000 & 3000 (isometric view) with updated visuals but it also added more in-depth mass-transit and traffic management features (thanks to the Rush Hour expansion). Plus, you play out of a large region where you can build plenty of cities and they would be interconnected, which means that demand for say commerce from one city could be supplied by another city that was connected by road/train, etc... It was awesome being able to create a vibrant agricultural town next to a residential suburbia, all supplying a city filled with skyscrappers and big commercial companies HQs and such throughout a region. You still could just stick to a large city if that was your preference.
It also had this neat integration with The Sims 1 (released around the same time) where you could bring a Sim from that game to live in your city and you could follow his life on your city and provide you basic feedback of how your citizens lived (you could use a stock Sim provided by SimCity 4 for this mode in case you didn't own The Sims if I remember correctly). You could also play missions where you would take control of a vehicle (police, firetruck, bus, etc) and walk around catching robbers, reach a certain checkpoint in time, put out a fire, etc, to gain some extra §§, all completely optional and just in case you wanted to break the routine of just building your city and watching it develop.
Oh and the mod community is one of the best ones I ever saw for a game. It is incredible the amount of quality content out there for this game, not just new buildings but entire new features that really help you shape the game the way you want and provide experiences that the series just never did before; from something simple like providing a underground parking building to resources to build a European style old towns with canals and architecture or a complete rework of the transit system with tons of new options.
My experience with SimCity4 was a bit tainted with the performance issues I had with it but I think it is a nice one to get back in the series if you haven't tried it since the original top-view one.

edit: oh and also a panel of helpful advisers giving you hints on what to tackle next, I can't remember if that was on 3000 already or if it was one of the new additions by SC4 but the tutorials on SC4 were definitely more helpful to get into the genre

Excellent information, thanks very much. It sounds much deeper that the original, and I am especially attracted to the idea of interlinked municipalities that coexist in creative ways. Nice that it has such an big mod community too, though I seldom have enough time to play all the games I want to, much less expand them. :)

Sounds like one I can justify plunking on my shelf for a fiver. +1 for your help!
