Urban planner's single-player offline paradise!

SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition, the fan-favorite iteration in the long line of legendary urban planning simulations with a myriad of design options and factors to tweak and track, creating the ultimate sense of life-like complexity, is available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next 72 hours! Includes the Rush Hour expansion pack.

It all started 30 years ago, in 1984. An up-and-coming brilliant game designer by the name of Will Wright created an incredibly believable virtual city that astound the gamers with its level of detail and the amount of little things that were constantly happening in it. The city, though, served only the purpose of an interesting background to an action-focused title, Raid on Bungeling Bay. It would surely feel like a waste to see such a sophisticated simulation only as a "bells-and-whistles" addition. Luckily, 5 years later, Will Wright gave the gaming world the first SimCity game. The one we offer you today, the fourth--and according to many gamers, the best--part of the series is the result of almost a quarter of century worth of a concept's evolution.

In SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition you don't just build your city, you breathe life into it. Create a megalopolis by weaving together a tapestry of cities ranging from a bedroom community to a high tech urban center or a vacation destination to a farming village. You can create a region of interconnected cities sharing and competing for resources that are linked by a fully integrated transportation network. Use "god-like" powers to create mountain ranges, carve valleys, and lay rivers to construct the most realistic metropolis imaginable. The new simulation engine offers immediate feedback so you can react to the needs of an expanding metropolis. Now individual buildings and their lots provide you with feedback. Use the My Sim features to personalize your Sim and immediately move him or her into any area and watch them experience life around town and get instant feedback on the city's progress. Each decision has a greater impact and gives you the ability to respond more effectively. The DRM-Free Deluxe Edition offered here, comes complete with the Rush Hour expansion, for an even more in-depth urban experience!

Every game in this great series offers the player hundreds of hours of fun and easily adjustable challenge to create a sense of immersion in a living, breathing metropolis. They all come with their very own special flavor, but most gamers agree that SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition is the most delicious dish of them all. Grab it now, on GOG.com, for only $4.99! Remember to hurry, because the 75% release discount offer lasts for 72 hours only, that is until Sunday, June 1, at 9:59AM GMT.
Woohhooo... great game.
Thanks for getting it up here on GOG.

I already bought it on Steam a while back, because I couldn't find it here.
Bought it the moment I saw the release message today. Finally my GOG library is bigger than the one on Steam.
Anyone interested in a good city builder should pick it up... especially at that discount. :)

Thanks guys and gals. Keep the awesome coming. :)

Impaler26: So how many over 10 years old games cost $20 on GOG?

Wishbone: None, as a matter of fact. This release is too new to show up in the MaGOG search engine yet, which is why it doesn't show up.
There is Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 at least, 10 years old at 19.99$ where as Sim City 4 Deluxe is 11 years old at 19.99$ so whats the difference - none - just buyer perception.

Anyway awsome release.

Now, you are cheating. First of all, it isn't over 10 years old. In a matter of fact, it isn't even 10 years old (Yes, it's actually 9 years and 8 months, sue me). Second, it includes 2 expansions, one of which was released on 2005. Finally, this isn't technically Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, but Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum, which was actually released on 2006.
Yes, details, I know.

Wikipedia states RollerCoaster 3 was released 2004. Base version of course.

This... sure isn't SimCity 3000. I thought we were getting SC3000, that's the one that was teased during the time machine sale.

The GOG version is the Platinum edition, released in 2006. Even the original game was first released on October 26 2004, so not quite 10 years old yet.

But as you say, in the mind of most buyers, the difference is negligible.
Cool release, but I've got it on steam already, and haven't played it much and probably won't. :P
Thank you GOG - I have this on disc but it was an instant buy for me

For others - a little advice

We move forward as does technology. Games that are old don't get updated, they end in there own cycle

You have choices :

- Buy a cheap PC and put XP on it and use it for old games and outdated software

- Virtualise a machine so you can run 2 operating systems on 1 machine

- Set up multi profiles for your new machine - 1 with cores off and 1 with cores on + Ram manipulation

- Have a 32 bit op system and 64 bit op system on your network

The list goes on and on and on

You have options guys and GOG try to do the best to keep games going and adapting them. Cant really blame them for multi crashes etc that were there back in the day. Having more memory and CPU's wont help when the game was developed when that technology was not around. Best you can do is research the most powerful PC at the time and emulate that.

I have a VM setup for my GOG addiction - works fine. I also have a really old Pentium 2 and 3 disconnected but ready to use again if I ever need them

Yep - all this requires money, but if you really are the addict I think you possibly are then the commitment is worth it

Not a rant, but just my scribbled thoughts you may not have considered

Matruchus: Semantics my dear Watson :)
As I said, details. Whether they are important or not, it's irrelevant. Oh, and there was quite a bit of complaining about the game's price. Take a look at the reviews. (And there were 2 GOGmixes about it, one by you).
Post edited May 29, 2014 by Grargar
There was some speculation previously that its price (on Steam) might be what was keeping Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines (a game of a similar age) off GOG. It looks as though that's not the case, though given this thread I wonder what reactions GOG would get if they released it at $20.
A question, please. Having not played any SimCity since the original, can anyone tell me what distinguishes this from others in the series? It is still basically the same just with better graphics (i.e., you are trying to build the most sustainable city), or are there deeper elements now that push it closer to something like Tropico or Banished?

Thanks for any info you can provide about what makes this particular iteration stand out.
