Urban planner's single-player offline paradise!

SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition, the fan-favorite iteration in the long line of legendary urban planning simulations with a myriad of design options and factors to tweak and track, creating the ultimate sense of life-like complexity, is available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next 72 hours! Includes the Rush Hour expansion pack.

It all started 30 years ago, in 1984. An up-and-coming brilliant game designer by the name of Will Wright created an incredibly believable virtual city that astound the gamers with its level of detail and the amount of little things that were constantly happening in it. The city, though, served only the purpose of an interesting background to an action-focused title, Raid on Bungeling Bay. It would surely feel like a waste to see such a sophisticated simulation only as a "bells-and-whistles" addition. Luckily, 5 years later, Will Wright gave the gaming world the first SimCity game. The one we offer you today, the fourth--and according to many gamers, the best--part of the series is the result of almost a quarter of century worth of a concept's evolution.

In SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition you don't just build your city, you breathe life into it. Create a megalopolis by weaving together a tapestry of cities ranging from a bedroom community to a high tech urban center or a vacation destination to a farming village. You can create a region of interconnected cities sharing and competing for resources that are linked by a fully integrated transportation network. Use "god-like" powers to create mountain ranges, carve valleys, and lay rivers to construct the most realistic metropolis imaginable. The new simulation engine offers immediate feedback so you can react to the needs of an expanding metropolis. Now individual buildings and their lots provide you with feedback. Use the My Sim features to personalize your Sim and immediately move him or her into any area and watch them experience life around town and get instant feedback on the city's progress. Each decision has a greater impact and gives you the ability to respond more effectively. The DRM-Free Deluxe Edition offered here, comes complete with the Rush Hour expansion, for an even more in-depth urban experience!

Every game in this great series offers the player hundreds of hours of fun and easily adjustable challenge to create a sense of immersion in a living, breathing metropolis. They all come with their very own special flavor, but most gamers agree that SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition is the most delicious dish of them all. Grab it now, on GOG.com, for only $4.99! Remember to hurry, because the 75% release discount offer lasts for 72 hours only, that is until Sunday, June 1, at 9:59AM GMT.

Proof that some people here have a bigger passion for complaining than for gaming.

Damn that character limit. I'm posting my full review here :)

Simcity 4 carries the traditions of Simcity franchise and adds quite a bit more content. Simcity 4 adds a region play feature. In the older Simcities, you create your city in a single plot of land, however in Simcity 4 your city can and will be affected by adjacent cities that you create. While it's entirely possible to create a self-sustaining city, it's also possible to feed or starve RCI (Residential, Commercial and Industrial) demand by using neighboring cities to your liking. You can also trade resources like electricity and water between cities.

The main game mechanics of Simcity like Residential, Commercial and Industrial demand still stand and are enchanced. It's a lot harder to make a New York-like metropolis without putting in any effort. Commercial and residential buildings are grouped into stages and wealth levels. Commercial buildings themselves are split into commercial services and commercial offices. From the Stage 1 low capacity buildings to the immensely tall Stage 8 commercial and residential skyscrapers, the game engine puts many more buildings into the game as compared to the older Simcities. Wealth levels range between § symbols to §§§ symbols, hence CO§§§ means rich commercial office, CS§§§ means rich commercial service like a shopping centre. R§§§ means rich residential building. A stage 3 R§§§ might mean something like a mansion with a swimming pool while a stage 8 R§§§ means a wealthy skyscraper condominium. Getting a Stage 8 CO§§§ skyscraper takes a lot of patience and effort for it to finally appear. And when it does, it's extremely satisfying, especially when you see the art detail involved in those buildings. Demand works as it should, without many R§§§ people, there will definitely not be any CO§§§ offices. Industrial buildings range from farms, to dirty industry, to the manufacturing factories and the high-tech industries.

Education, pollution, police and fire coverage and healthcare still work hand in hand like in the older Simcities. As common sense dictates, no good city is without adequate coverage of amnenities and civil buildings. However, this is Simcity and the general rule of thumb in Simcity is that you're free to create any city that you want. If you want to create a disastrous slum with poor healthcare and police coverage, you're always free to do so. City ordinances are still and always around, helping you earn more money or improve city conditions with simple laws and enactments. There are simply more real world landmarks as well.

Now, we come to the one thing that sets Simcity 4 apart from every single Simcity in the past: User custom-made content. Simcity 4 has by far the largest variety of custom-made content and mods since its release in 2003. I will simply direct you to Simtropolis, the largest repository of Simcity content on the web. A simple glance at Simcity 4's custom made buildings on Simtropolis: (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/category/2-buildings-bat/) will net you a current count of 7500 FREE fan-made buildings as of this post, I'm proud to say to have contributed to that number, making local skyscrapers and buildings back in 2004. 7500 fan made buildings ranging from real-life landmarks to fan-imagined creations to all sorts of bus, train and subway stations, to things like McDonalds, to trees, to beaches and forests to bridges, stadiums etc etc. And that is still increasing in number considering the game released more than 10 years ago. You have literally every tool and resource to build and create any city or town that you want in the game with B.A.T.s, you can even create your own with GMAX and the BAT exporter tool. There are city journals in Simtropolis to highlight that very point, read any one of them and the writer will be more than happy to bring you round a tour in his/her city he/she created so passionately. Fan enthusiasm have gone on for years and will go on more even longer. If you've not played Simcity 4, we, the fans, simply welcome you to the best city builder there is and we hope you enjoy your stay.
Saw it and bought it! :D :D :D
Does the GOG version include the official extra stuff from Maxis? That would be cool since the official site was closed down awhile back.
I believe that most files are available for those wondering where to get them and probably at the mod community Simtropolis too.

What about performance issues? I remember SimCity 4 lagging a lot and crashing when your cities got big and heavily populated even with a powerful modern pc. Don't know if there ever was a fix for that...

Anyway, it is great to finally have it here on GOG.

Well, I am sure the powerful PC of 2014 is a bit more powerful than the one from 2003 (or whenever it was released)
:)

And no, I don't have a 2014 machine, I have a 2008 PC.
Great release, will buy it later as backup in case my old CD get faulty. Hope to see A-Train appear here in the near future.

Rinu: Omg! Awesome, you did it, GOG. After months of "Nah" releases, "Yes, instabuy!" rush is back again. Thanks.
I know the feeling...

Although, there have been a few that are on my wishlist.

Poor choice of words from me I guess. I meant a machine that far exceeded the requirements; I remember trying SC4 around 07-08 with a then modern PC and still having the same problem.
Just bought last month from elsewhere but still an instabuy on GOG! ;)

Well, I don't know, I hope there is no issue. Last Sim-City game I got was 2000, which I didn't like as much as the original (on the ST)
Now this is truly a Good Old Game!
Great release! Wow, SimCity 4 is 11 years old already? Oh man, I don't even want to know how old SimCity 2000 is now. Oh, wait. :P

Matruchus: On that we agree but there are several old games with that price on gog and nobody is complaining.

Impaler26: So how many over 10 years old games cost $20 on GOG?
None, as a matter of fact. This release is too new to show up in the MaGOG search engine yet, which is why it doesn't show up.

Hey guys, if you wan to play this game in widescreen resolutions, go to properties of the shortcut on your desktop and add "-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080 -introff" to the end of the target line (without the quotation marks). Change the "r1920x1080" part to to whatever you resolution you want.

Great release...but...till I'd get to play it, it would be discounted again anyway, so no insta-buy! =D
