Intelligence proper.

Sid Meier's Covert Action, a 1990 classic CIA operative simulator with unlimited number of cases for you to solve, is available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Let me tell you, if the people knew everything that's happening around the world, they couldn't lead their normal lives. They'd be paralyzed with fear. If they only knew how many times a year the cities they live in become a theater of a silent game between the agencies, terrorists, and crime syndicates they would fear to step out in the street. They couldn't live knowing how many times a steady hand stops the clock on a bomb at exactly 00:01 seconds. How many times a silent bullet shot from a sniper rifle flies just an inch over their head. They can't ever find out. That's why we act silently to stop all threats. All of our actions, are covert actions.

Sid Meier's Covert Action will have you taking on the role of CIA agent Maxine "Max" Remington or her male counterpart, Maximillian, and solving seemingly impossible situations in ver 45 cities on 3 continents. You will tap phone lines, crack complex codes, defeat computerized defense systems, and track suspects around the globe as you put together the pieces to a worldwide criminal plot. The work of a secret agent is never over--you'll be able to stay on duty indefinitely, as the game provides an infinite number of randomly generated missions. Be sure, that each play session will surprise you with something unexpected!

Get undercover and experience all the dangers, excitement, and challenge of a secret agent's life in Sid Meier's Covert Action, for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

NOTICE:
The manual for the game will be added to the bonus section as soon as possible. We have our top field agent working towards acquiring it as we speak!

tburger: Excellent! Another Microprose/Tommo title. So it seems our speculations about possible classics purchased by Tommo were right. Silent Service is coming :-D

Was there no manual for this title an the release day?

Niggles: Im actually wondering who this publisher Tommo is?.
truth to be told I've heard of them not long ago. Seems new company to me. But as they purchased lots of post Atari stuff - hope they want to cash it ASAP.

Wolfram_von_Thal: A nice addition. But it's another game I would prefer to have the Amiga-Version. Are there no plans for the future to add Amiga-games?
They tried and failed.

Licurg: So no Sword of the Samurai ? :(
I'm hoping that gets released here myself.

Really? I didn't know that. That's a real pity. There would be some great possible additions...
Amiga versions are still more difficult as GOG or the dev would have to license the Amiga Kickstart roms as well in order to make the games work in the emus.

G-Doc: We're fetching the manual for you guys, and it will be added to the game's bonus section soon. No worries!
Yeah, I really need the manual because sometimes I don't know what to do in that mini games, for example placing a wire trap.

Nice release, by the way.
This looks like a spy-espionage version of Sword of The Samurai? Am I even remotely close?
Never heared about this one. Hope to see here in the future F15 - Strike Eagle II and Magic: the Gathering (the one from Microprose)
Another Sid Meier game for your collection! Neat, and just like the other games added so far, haven't even heard of it. xD
Ok. So. Just to clarify :

This game is one of the two or three (or maybe one) best games ever released on a computing system.

It's for some reason not very well known (i stumbled upon it on an abandonware site some years ago), but playing it was a shock : that thing is absolutely fantastic. Or let's say, at least, that it is how an ideal game should be, in my opinion.

Only problem i had, some game sections (the car chase) required the num keypad, and i don't have this on my laptop. But heh, the player is so free about his strategies and used methods, i was just avoiding this part.

Anyway, immediate and joyous instabuy. Thanks mr gog.
There is a scan of the manual at replacementdocs, just need to ask in their forum to approve it for download.
Am I correct in that Tommo owns the rights to the Humongous games? Does that mean we MAY see Backyard Baseball on GoG sometime in the not so distant future?

Oh and just to react to some comments :

1) It has nothing to do with spycraft. covert action has randomized plots with randomised suspects and baddies, and you have to plan and decide yourself about your approach (infiltration, wire, etc). Each time there is a new conspiracy to untangle.

2) Yes, the gameplay is all over the place, because of this. As you have many tools at your disposal, you can decide which ones (and which "minigames") are more suitable for your investigation, and undergo a series of them to accumulate infos, proofs, to establish links to new targets, etc. The gameplay is precisely this whole, just like a spy movie is about gunfights and car chase and infiltration and hacking and different forms of spying and information gathering. It's about, every time, general investigation on a worldwide conspiracy.

It's a very open, very replayable, light strategy/puzzle game, emulating cheesy spy movies with a straight face. And it's the opposite of "spy games" where you just have to perform tasks and missions in a predetermined (at best branching) sequence, tasks and missions that have generally nothing to do with spying.

I cannot think of a game to draw analogies from.
No way! I have the Amiga version of Covert Action still. Manual in mint condition too!!!! :D

I hope Microprose's F-19 Stealth Fighter is coming out soon. It's one of the few pre-internet games that had patches released for it, Microprose would send out disks to customers in the post, lol! Version 4 is the bug free one to get, just so you know GOG :)
