A whole new campaign!

Shadowrun: Dragonfall, a fully-fledged expansion pack for the recent old-school RPG gem set in the legendary setting where cyberpunk meets fantasy, bringing in a whole new 12 hour-long campaign and many improvements to the gameplay, is available on GOG.com for only $14.99. The basic game, Shadowrun Returns, is available for $14.99 as well. That's 25% off for the base game for the next two weeks.

In 2012, magic returned to our world, awakening powerful creatures of myth and legend. Among them was the Great Dragon Feuerschwinge, who emerged without warning from the mountains of Germany unleashing fire, death, and untold destruction across the countryside. It took German forces nearly four months to finally shoot her down - and when they finally did, the event became known as the Dragonfall. It’s 42 years later, and a new threat is rising, one that could mean untold chaos and devastation. One that soon has you and your team caught on the wrong side of a deadly conspiracy. The only clue: whispers of the Dragonfall. Rumors that the Great Dragon Feuerschwinge may still be alive, waiting for the right moment to return…

Shadowrun: Dragonfall, transports runners to the Free City of Berlin, a thrilling Shadowrun setting full of gorgeous new hi-res environments, a diverse new cast of characters, and a new soundtrack by Sam Powell, the composer of the original Sega Genesis Shadowrun game. You'll lead a small team of shadowrunners, each with their own outlook and backstory. The members of your team are designed to play unique roles during missions, and each has a distinct set of skills, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Now, you can save your progress at any time during the game. The new save-game functionality is available in new downloads of Shadowrun Returns and through a patch for all existing copies.

If you miss the times when expansions added enough content to the game to more than make up for their price, you need to grab Shadowrun: Dragonfall, for only $14.99 on GOG.com. Don't have the base game yet? No problem! Shadowrun Returns is discounted by 25%, making it available for only $14.99 as well, until Thursday, March 13, at 5:59PM GMT.

evilnancyreagan: Yeah, my thoughts as well [crosses fingers]. There isn't even a mention of the release on Harebrained's page either.
I just found the answer in the comment section of one of the news about Dragonfall:

"There will be a Campaign Pack at that price at some time but we’re still working on those details."

So no Campaign Pack today. We'll have to wait some more...

tapeworm00: Quick question - I have this on Steam (I know, I know) but I'd rather buy this dlc/expansion/whatever here on GOG. If I do so, will it work with my base Steam game? Or is there a way to make it work?

Thanks in advance :)
avatar
JudasIscariot: Our version of the DLC will work with our version of the base game :)
Got it, thanks!

trusteft: I want the game but I won't even consider buying it till all the DLC etc have been released.

I am not falling for an Omerta again.
This. I want only complete games here.

ShadowWulfe: Yes!!!!

(why is KOTC not here? I hear such good things about it).
Ask Pierre about it. Oh wait,...someone already did..

eRe4s3r: I want to know about this too ,) Bought it on steam and gog has the better price for the DLC, will gogs DLC version work on steam version or not?
You're probably better off asking the developers directly -- They would know. I haven't checked, but I'm sure they have some official forum at their website, or some means of direct contact.

DAlancole:
I figured as much, there've been some fairly questionable handling of certain smaller type games here. Lovely. =/

Since Dragonfall doesn't have one of those 10% discount things, I might wait till after I'm through with the demo to get it.
Damn. I knew I'd regret buying Shadowrun Returns! I love it, but I try to stay away from "Here's our game. Sort of. Come back later and buy more." I guess I'm just an old fogey; I remember complete games and free dlc. :-)

oh well.

I'm just going to pick it up this weekend. I've been waiting since December to return to the shadows after all these years and five extra bucks isn't really gonna kill me, especially after considering all the awesome GOG freebies I've already been treated to. It'll be my way of showing my support for GOG amidst all this controversy and drama :)

Well, the main game is technically "complete". It has a full story campaign, with an ending ( well, two or three possible endings, I think ) and is reasonably long. This seems to be a new story, not or only loosely related to the original main story. So I guess it's more like a sequel or spin-off.

It's not like some other games, where you only receive a chapter or two, and need to wait for the story to be completed.

By complete I mean with all possible expansions and dlcs included. I am also willing to wait a couple of years for this.
I'm kind of glad this isn't introduced at a discount, since it means there's no hurry to buy it. I still have a few mods for the original game I want to try ( plus any number of other games ). Definitely going to pick this one up, though. Shadowrun Returns had some flaws, but overall I still enjoyed it, and look forward to some more official Shadowrun adventures.

Anyone just getting into Shadowrun Returns: Make sure to check out some of the mods/ fan-made campaigns, once you've played through the official game. Quality varies, but there's some really good ones; and hey, they're free downloads.

So, does anyone know how long the expansion is, compared to the original campaign? About the same size? And are there any major changes, aside from the improved saving system? New classes or skills? Or perhaps even less linear gameplay?

According to the latest Kickstarter update, there have been reports of the expansion being around 18 hours long. :)

That would be convenient and a better deal for the customer, and if you're patient, by all means wait for a complete edition or whatever.

I'm just saying the original main-game doesn't feel incomplete or like "rip-off" in case some people have that impression. To be honest, I'm not sure it's worth the full price, since it does have some flaws, such as being rather linear. But if you can get it 25-50% off, then it's a good deal. In fact, even a higher price is arguably all right, since you get access to dozens of fan-made campaigns, in addition to the official main game. Some of them are really good, and occasionally feature concepts and ideas even the official game does not have.

But yeah, in the end it comes down to what it's worth to you, personally, as with everything. Myself, I don't regret buying the original game a while back, and I'll also buy this expansion soon.

Thanks, although that doesn't mean much to me, since I can't remember how long exactly the main game took me to finish, and of course everyone plays at a different pace. Sounds like it might be about the same length as the first official campaign, though.

Oh man have I got some awesome news for you! Check out Throne of Bhaal for Baldur's Gate II, you must have missed it when it was released, alongside many other awesome expansions as they were quite the common and welcome occurence back in the day!

I was quite disappointed by Shadowrun Returns myself but not because they happened to plan expansions, that would be silly.

This release was planned from the beginning, and was offered free to backers as a stretch goal. The game was also intended to rely a fair amount on user-created content.
