With your purchase, you also get a comiXology giftcode for the digital Shadowman (2012) #1 comic book, and a $5.99 discount code for a Valiant Comics official Shadowman t-shirt (7-day offer)!

They say that magic of blood is the ultimate kind of magic. It pleases the mighty dark spirits of the Deadside, giving its user power that no human being should ever wield. But the human soul is easily corruptible by such temptations. There are always those, who would reach for the forbidden fruit. They will kill to taste it. They will kill again to keep it. But the Man of Shadows, the traveler between the worlds, stands guard. His destiny is to maintain balance between the Deadside and the Liveside. By the power of gruesome voodoo artifacts, he's implored to stop all strife--by any means necessary.

Shadow Man is a third-person perspective action game that will amaze you with its dark story and aesthetics. You will explore two overlapping worlds, held together by the power of eternal magic. The nonlinear gameplay will take you to numerous impressive locations with many terrifying enemies to defeat and clever puzzles to solve. If you enjoy action games with deep and unique setting, solid gameplay, and dark mood, you can't go wrong with this comic book-inspired classic!

Start your fascinating journey through the dark realms of bloody magic and madness in Shadow Man, for only $5.99 on GOG.com, today! Special bonus codes for the comic book and $5.99 discount for the official Valiant Comics t-shirt will be e-mailed to you. This special offer lasts until Tuesday, September 24, at 9:59AM GMT.

gandalf.nho: Never played this one, how's the gameplay and difficulty?

Nordwolf: In my opinion it is not very hard. Although there are sometimes many enemies, you cannot die, because you are already on the dead side. Sounds logical, doesn't it? Instead you restart at a specific point in the level. But it was very rarely that my life bar was empty.

Another point are the platform sections. They are good, but if you fail, you normally die, because you fall into lava or something. But luckily the game has no checkpoints and you can save and load where ever you want.

I really liked the growing powers of the character. You collect dark souls and the more you have, the more "soul gates" you are able to pass. Also you get some nice tattoos, allowing you to touch fire, walk over lava and so on - so you get to areas in already visited locations where you were not able to get to before.

All in all a very well balanced game that never gets boring (OK, maybe sometimes when you cannot figure out where to go next, because the paths connecting the different areas can be a bit confusing). The control of the character is - compared to todays standards - a bit difficult, but you get used to it quickly.

Edit: Ah, I forgot another cool thing: You can equip both hands and use them independently. So you can fire your standard (and later very powerful) shadow gun and a voodoo weapon for special enemies, or use a voodoo shield, etc, etc. That gives some variety for an individual playstyle.
Thanks for the answer, nice to know about being "save anywhere, save anytime", many of these type of games normally are checkpoint-only...

In fact, checkpoints would not work, because you have to revisit most of the locations to get better equipment or collect missing souls. But there are many ways in doing so, you are not forced to visit the locations in a given sequence. Of course, some paths are blocked until you are strong enough, but if you collect new equipment, you can decide, if you explore some new areas first, or go back to visited ones, and so on. But it helps to take notes when you discover ways you cannot go and doors you cannot open yet, because there are many... ;-)
Gog, why do you do this to me? I've been trying so very hard to not buy any games until I work on my far too insanely large backlog. I was tempted with "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" - but was able to resist. It went on my wishlist. That was enough for the moment. Now this? Shadow Man - with a promo for a free digital comic *AND* a discount on a really awesome shirt? Why do you do this to me, Gog? I wish I could quit you (but not really because I need my game fix).
Playing this with a keyboard is very annoying. You have been warned...

Also, any chance for The Suffering coming here too ?
Just installed and booted up and loving it.
I bought this game when it came out (I was sold on it from a demo disc that came with the original Commandos BEL) and I have to say that my biggest drawbacks to it then seem to have been remedied all these years later. NOW I have a good gamepad (I know we like to give Licurg shit but he's right about the keyboard) and NOW I have a decent video card.

It hasn't been a very good morning all around in the real world for me, but this gem is making the day as a whole a real treat.

I'm installing it now, and I'm incredibly glad to hear it works well with a gamepad. I was reading through the manual and saw the default keyboard controls, and was pretty baffled. I was expecting I'd have to set up an Xpadder profile for it.

Yeah, that's good to know.

What makes this game so annoying with mouse and keyboard? Not that I mind a gamepad but I was just curious.

It takes like 10 seconds if you know how it works. That annoying, huh? :P

I've only had the software for a short while, and I've been using downloaded profiles. I'll admit I should know how to do it, as it's certainly not rocket science, but the lazy-arse in me is relieved I can research it another day. ;)

Ah well yeah, I'm like that too but once you learn it it's easy even for lazy asses like us and especially handy if you have a non-360 gamepad so you just mimic the keyboard controls to your gamepad, even the mouse works.

I'm not sure. I never used a gamepad. I would say you can compare it somehow to Gothic: a bit clunky at the beginning, but you get used to it and then it works just fine for me. If I remember correctly (didn't play it for a while), playing with the mouse does not work very well. I think, I only used the keyboard.

I'm glad to know it's so easy to work with. There are a couple games I think I'll want to make custom profiles for, so I'll likely read up on it in the next couple days. :)
I've heard some decent things about this game, so I'll probably pick it up, but what made me most ecstatic about this release is that it was developed by Acclaim Teesside, who also made the fantastic Descent clone Forsaken.
This release makes a GOG release of Forsaken seem more likely, and I'm really hoping that'll happen soon.

DukeNukemForever: I believe since the last spelling change you can now use both (not sure, I learned and prefer the old one), but I think ß looks much better. As example, Spaß vs Spass, Scheiße vs Scheisse. Regarding pronunciation the ß sounds more sharpen, don't know how to describe that better in english.
That actually looks like Scheiße.
It's no Alec Baldwin as The Shadow but I guess this will do, another interesting release, thanks.
Good old year 99.
