They say that magic of blood is the ultimate kind of magic. It pleases the mighty dark spirits of the Deadside, giving its user power that no human being should ever wield. But the human soul is easily corruptible by such temptations. There are always those, who would reach for the forbidden fruit. They will kill to taste it. They will kill again to keep it. But the Man of Shadows, the traveler between the worlds, stands guard. His destiny is to maintain balance between the Deadside and the Liveside. By the power of gruesome voodoo artifacts, he's implored to stop all strife--by any means necessary.

Shadow Man is a third-person perspective action game that will amaze you with its dark story and aesthetics. You will explore two overlapping worlds, held together by the power of eternal magic. The nonlinear gameplay will take you to numerous impressive locations with many terrifying enemies to defeat and clever puzzles to solve. If you enjoy action games with deep and unique setting, solid gameplay, and dark mood, you can't go wrong with this comic book-inspired classic!

DukeNukemForever: I believe since the last spelling change you can now use both (not sure, I learned and prefer the old one), but I think ß looks much better. As example, Spaß vs Spass, Scheiße vs Scheisse. Regarding pronunciation the ß sounds more sharpen, don't know how to describe that better in english.

JudasIscariot: More emphasis is placed on the letters in the word :D
Ahm. or something like that... teacher's pet!
Another interesting release, thanks.

I think I mixed up with Shadow Warrior back in the day.

But, now reading everything including "Shadow" in its name reminds me The Shadow ;)

Leroux: What's the game like, how are the controls, has it aged well?
hmm, I can't remember if the game has mouselook and strafing...
I thought we already had this...Anyway - pre 2K game on Tuesday - nice! thx gog.
This was my favorite title on the Sega Dreamcast. I can't wait to play it again. An insta-buy for me. Relieved to see there's a map included!

JudasIscariot: So what is the difference between using that double s and just writing " ss " in a word?
avatar
Randalator: 'ß' is not the same as 'ss', at least not since the language reform.

'ß' denotes a sharp, voiceless 's' after a long vowel or diphthong. For example 'Fuß' (foot): long 'u', sharp 's'
'ss' denotes the same sound after a short vowel. For example 'Hass' (hatred): short 'a', sharp 's'
Thanks for that clarification. While I write some words like Hass with ss I honestly couldn't remember a rule behind it, it's more an automatism to me. Sounds absolute logical to me.

Edit: Btw, sorry for so many off-topic posts. My last one for today.

Not really. "Spass" and "Scheisse" are both still wrong. In fact that is one of the few issues where the last spelling change actually tried to put some sense into our weird language - lots of people just aren't seeing it. ;)

While the old system had rather complicated rules concerning ss / ß, and many exceptions which had to be memorized, the new system follows clear rules:
- A voiceless ("sharp") /s/ sound after a LONG vowel is written as ß: Fuß, Scheiße, etc.
- A voiceless ("sharp") /s/ sound after a SHORT vowel is written as ss: Hass, Kuss, etc.

(There are still exceptions of course. Terminal devoicing creates cases in which the /s/ sound is written as "s" due to being part of the word's root. And some frequent words like the article "das" have not been changed. But in general, the amount of exceptions that we have now regarding ss/ß is just a fraction of those we had before.)

Excellent release GOG!

I played this on my Nintendo 64 back when I was like 15 and, at the time, the game's vibe felt totally sinister. In fact I found the game so moody that it gave me several nasty nightmares.

JMich: There seems to be something wrong in the front page....
Did you perhaps save the original banner?
(I remember I owe you promo banners, I'm still trying to recover that hard drive. It hasn't crashed, it's just physically inaccessible.)

Nice, nice. I think it's time for the Donaudampfschiffahrtselektrizitätenhauptbetriebswerkbauunterbeamtengesellschaft. According to the Guiness Book of World Records it's the longest published german word, counting 79 letters. Impossible to read.

Great release. I remember Shadow Man from the PS1. I never finished it and my memories aren't that clear anymore, but I still remember the tight atmosphere. I think I'll give this one another try when my backlog allows it.
GOG has returned to form.

It brings a tear of pride to an old man's eye.

Starmaker: Did you perhaps save the original banner?
Not really, since I don't usually save those. And no worries about the promo images, there's no rush.
