A 2014 digital release of the 1993 remake of the 1984 classic!

Seven Cities of Gold: Commemorative Edition, a robust classic historical sim/strategy game about the expeditions to the New World, is available for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

As a fledgling 15th century explorer you have been given a mandate by the Spanish Crown to set sail for the New World and establish new settlements for the fortune and glory of Spain. You will have complete control over every aspect of your expedition - from the initial provisioning of your voyage, to the construction of forts and missions on newly discovered continents. Key to your survival will be how you interact with the native population of the New World - negotiate with a tribe’s Chief to establish peaceful trade ties or wipe out entire villages and plunder their resources.

Seven Cities of Gold: Commemorative Edition lets you step into the role of Christopher Columbus and chart a course to an unknown world of discovery, exploration, and conquest! The Commemorative Edition of Seven Cities of Gold is a remake of the 1984 classic, featuring enhanced graphics and sound. Choose to explore a historically accurate map of the Americas in the 15th century or a randomly generated New World. Hire men for your journey and equip your ship with food, animals, arms, and other items for trading. Command a series of daring expeditions to the New World - take control of mapping uncharted wilderness, building far-flung outposts, and establishing trade relations with over 8 different indigenous tribes.

Fill up your coffers as you trade, loot, or mine your way to new resources and treasures in Seven Cities of Gold: Commemorative Edition, for only $5.99 on GOG.com!

The GOG.com crew would like to heartily thank our user IAmSinistar for making this release possible! This is yet another game that made its way into our classic catalog with the help of our fantastic community.

Crosmando: Nice

GOG now has the only two computer games ever made in a "Conquistador" setting (as far as I know), this and Expeditions: Conquistador
Conquest of the New World?

Thank you IAmSinistar. You're awesome.
Oh. A remake. Where are the old games? Oh w...

Just kidding :D

A really great addition! I have heard of the 1993 version back then (but was a bit too young for the original).
Thanks everyone involved!

Nope, there's also Conquestador (Spoils of War) and i'm sure there are several more games with this setting.
Nice going IAmSinistar! +1 Shoutout to the other rights' researchers, too.

Nah, that's just New World colonialism in general (includes all major powers)

Nice, didn't know about that one.

Well, I'm not doing a whole lot of in-depth researching right now; most of it is checking the wishlist to see what is relatively highly-desired, and seeing if the game appears to be held by a bigger publisher or a smaller entity (that may not exist anymore). The main thing is contacting people who worked on a game to see if they know who might have the rights.

How come you guys didn't just assume this one was held by EA and, therefore, leave it alone though?

It absolutely isn't. It's a science fiction rail shooter interspersed with puzzles, the whole weirdly wrapped with inca/conquistador theme.
Coktel Vision weirdness at it's finest.

Edit : speaking of which, why isn't Woodruff here already, since we have Gobliins ? And Bargon Attack while we're at it. The latter is mediocre, but still notable for it's typical french 90's crazyness.

Didn't even know that there was a remake. Pretty sure I used to play this back on C64. So thanks!

Well, for some weird reason Gobiins came here via dotemu rather than Activision and AFAIK dotemu were selling the Gobiins games on their DD site before bringing it here, they don't appear to have Woodruf - maybe you'd do better to ask them what the dealy is?

And it looks some kind of familiar! :)
Looks interesting, how's the difficulty?

And thanks to IAmSinistar too!

From my memory (remembering I played this when it came out originally)...not overly difficult. Some randomness (like original Civ games) in the set up.

edit - don't recall if it had different difficulty settings but I think it did.
