We're ridin' dirty, we're ridin' dirty...

Screamer 4X4, a rugged off-road racing game where 4WD is king, is veering off the the well-traveled track and heading out into the wild for a clean $5.99 only on GOG.com!

YEEEHAAAAAW! We're finally going out where we can let our hair down and get dirty! There ain't nothing like driving in low gear with your differential locked as you try to bypass those dadgum trees on the second curve of what could be loosely termed as a racetrack. Shoot, son, this isn't another one of those "oh, he made ANOTHER left turn" racing games! You gotta get your hands dirty as you race through painstakingly modeled terrain and realistic 4WD (4 wheel drive for those not in the know) handling. Choose from a variety of racing modes--Free Drive, Championship, or Trophy--and play solo or against your friends in LAN multiplayer.

Get the hell off the tarmac and get your dirt on in Screamer 4X4, for only $5.99 now on GOG.com!
In regards to the game description: As an avid off-roader, I'm just going to say that...you aren't doing any racing in 4-LO. Even in third gear you're getting 25 MPH and you shouldn't be going that fast in that range, anyway, if you want to have an engine for very long. If this game was an actual simulation of off-roading, rock-climbing at .5-2 MPH or mud bogging around 5-15 MPH...no one would be playing it but me. However; cruising around in 4-HI at 30+ MPH is pretty fun in the snow or dryer earth like in desert racing, and is perhaps more realistic to the way this game is designed to be enjoyed.
That being said, you should all wheel it up, because there isn't enough redneck representation in vidya games.
one of the best offroad games ever :)
Wicked! Now we just need Screamer Rally and the collection will be complete!
Two questions: can you race with cars controlled by AI (on one track), or you just always drive alone?
Second question: is it true that different terrain (represented by different extures) don't affect handling at all? You just fight with terrain slopes etc?

Austrobogulator: I would pay good money for a 4X 4X4 game.

It would have to be set in space though.
Agreed, me too. Let me know if you find a kickstarter campaign featuring this...
Great. Loved Virgin Interactive and the games they published which were almost usually very high quality. This game firmly belongs in that camp.

Still holding out for Toonstruck and the first two Dune games. Those were terrific games Virgin Interactive published
Nice one :)

There's a multiplayer menu in which you can select AI cars to fill out the ranks (up to four 'players' in total), but it's different to the single-player game modes. I think it would be good fun in actual multi-player (especially in a LAN), but I don't think that playing those modes against the AI is going to wow you (and that's definitely not where the game is focussed).

Quite possibly the sorts of decision-making necessary to provide effective AI opposition in the single-player courses was too tall an order?

It's not a big loss, in any case -- this game is all about you vs the course. Although the single-player does give you one opponent who (more-or-less) knows what they're doing: You. You get a ghost car of your best performance to test yourself against, so you not always entirely alone in that respect.

I honestly don't know the answer to this one. All I can say is that if that's true, the gameplay is such that it never bothered me at all.

Best Cockpit View EVER!

It's so much fun getting bounced around in the driver's seat that I can't imagine playing this game any other way. (You have to at least try it out for a while, even if you prefer your driving games in an external view.)
Thanks for the answers :)

Sorry to bump this, but does anybody have a theory as to why Scream 4x4 showed up before Screamer Rally? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screamer_Rally seems to suggest Rally could make use of nGlide too, so perhaps it's rights' issues instead of compatibility. Unfortunate as Rally has 100 more votes than 4x4 on the wishlist.
