Current Mission: [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/silent_storm_gold]S2: Silent Storm Gold Edition
Availability: available now for $9.99
Operational Contact: GOG.com

Mission Briefing:
It is the year 1943. You need to put together a group of elite soldiers, penetrate the enemy infrastructure, obtain top-secret information, and blow everything the hell up. The complete assignment involves finishing two Allied and Axis campaigns, utilizing six separate player classes, and testing large number of maps, weapons, and items. Even though you may believe you’ve already completed such missions earlier, I can guarantee that S2: Silent Storm Gold Edition is something special in the tactical TBS genre: huge variety of gameplay possibilities with excellent 3D graphics and great physics make it one of the best team strategies ever.

Requirements:
Ability to think, click, and react required. Some basic military expertise beneficial but not required. If no previous training in this genre has been received, you will be trained.

Equipment:
An advanced Silent Storm engine, with completely destroyable environment and ragdoll physics, was created specifically to assist you on this mission. In addition to that you will receive the Silent Storm - Sentinels expansion, the soundtrack, manual, avatars, and , finally, wallpapers.

Extra Information:
Our intelligence reports show that the game has received a "E3 2003 Best of Show" award in the tactical genre. Later critic reviews and fan-reception proved that S2: Silent Storm is not a game that should be taken lightly. As one of the reports states: “Anybody who even kind of liked "Jagged Alliance" or its sequel should have already left by now for the store to pick up a copy.”

Mission Objective:
Destroy Everything!
Bought the game in 2005 after heaving read that it's like the ultimate squad and turn-based tactical game (lol, "heaving" - that's a typo that's gotta stay :B). I must admit that there was something about the game that kept me from really enjoying it and I can't quite remember what (aside from the Polish translation). Still, I'm definitely gonna buy it on GOG sooner or later and I am confident that the next time I'll play it I'm finally gona appreciate it as the masterpiece it supposedly is.
Thanks GOG, i've been waiting for this one since the day I joined the site. Not many releases make me gasp and swear (in a good way) when I load the main page.
YEAAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
I've been waiting soooooooo long!

Thank you!
I love you all!
Wow, seems like the releases are coming fast and heavy these days!
People are very excited with this, I haven't even heard of it before.

From most comments I picked up that if I love Jagged Alliance (which I do) I'll love this one too.

Hillsy_: A good game let down by being unbalanced. The game purposely makes your character poorer than the rest of your squad. Ultimately this makes experience points seem pointless for your main character, as your comrades recruits build up to be far better than your own character, especially in terms of skills. Good concept, could have been great.
This was a bug in the original game I believe.

Does anyone know if this issue has been fixed in the GoG version? It ruined my enjoyment of an otherwise incredible game.

grviper: The only drawback I remember is that you have to use custom difficulty set-up otherwise you might run into ridiculous situations on default settings. Like someone not dying from having a whole pistol magazine emptied into their unprotected chest. Or people ignoring being struck on the head with an axe. Now, with custom stuff, improved lethality and reduced HP for both the friendlies and the enemies, even explosives become a threat.

PMIK: I also remember that in some of the levels with lots of enemies, it would take forever for the AI to take its turn.

Maybe that was just my slow crappy computer back then
There is a mod that skips every other frame in the animation and with modern PCs that should practically cut in half the time the turns take in S2. S3 doesn't seem to have that problem, but the damn enemy engineers are usually unarmed and mostly spend their action points looking left and right which is a rather cheap, but slow action. And they like stay in the basements so that you must kill everyone else before reaching them.

The skill learning works much better in S3, while S2 forces you to shoot and punch grass or bodies after each battle to keep your fighting skills up to par the automatically leveling troopers left in the HQ. Medical and engineering skills are almost impossible to keep up by using them on missions as you would run out of supplies, so I would just recommend to use a "setxplevel [level]" command with your current level after each level up to get your squad mach the other troopers. Just don't cheat your squad to any higher level than what you have earned as for example a level 12+ scout can throw shurikens for free in S2 if you choose right perks. I don't think you can even grind that much XP in S2 anyway.
Sweet Christmas! This was an unexpected surprise. I have been told for years that this is a game practically custom made for me but, like many others have mentioned, have never been able to get my hands on it in any practical way. If my bank account weren't completely tapped out from my sons birthday I would purchasing this game instead of posting about it. Oh well, payday comes soon enough and I can wait.. maybe. If I start cramming the loose change from the couch into my PC is there anyway that could count towards my purchase?
Also, remember to check for [url=http://www.strategycore.co.uk/files/silent-storm]S2 files and S3 files
Damn excellent site for strategy games.
instabuys are fun, no?
Having absolutely NO experience in this type of game, I would like to know if there is something of role-playing in its mechanics, like skills to chose/develop by spending experience points, and dices-rolls when attacking, critical hits or failure, etc.

Perks on level up as I recall, Critical hits are possible (increased damage as I recall), not sure about fumbles. You do have a team which gains experience as you use them as well, all in all it is worth it.
