Well, I've never bought a game on GOG at full price so I'm content to wait it out.

That said, I just wanted to celebrate, regardless of the issues people are taking with the prices, that GOG released *2* games today, both 7+ years old! This is definitely great news!

I do frequently buy them cheaper at retail actually, especially with Steam's regional pricing bullshit. Case in point: Mafia II. It would cost me $79.99 for the game by itself on Steam. All the DLC would cost me $37.94 total. So that's $117.93 for the whole thing on Steam for Australians. Not only is the price gouged like hell, but we're charged in US dollars so they slap us in the face twice.

I bought a physical retail copy of Mafia II Director's Cut (game plus all DLC) for $23.99 AU recently, standard retail price. This amount included the shipping cost. This physical retail copy shipped to me from England, and is currently waiting for me to pick up at the post office.

It was cheaper for me to buy a physical copy of a game and have it sent to me FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PLANET than it was for me to get it through digital distribution.

This is just one example. Would you like more? I just bought Total War Shogun 2 and Total War Shogun 2: Fall Of The Samurai. Total cost: $28.99 AU, same deal with Mafia II Director's Cut - sent to me from the other side of the planet, still cheaper than online distribution.

thisisgil: The problem with a game like this, is that most people already own it in one format or another... it's neither old enough to be hard to come by / get running on a modern OS or young enough to be desirable enough to snatch it up at that price.

So with that in mind, I'd imagine a huge portion of the sales would be from people (like myself) who would be double, or even triple dipping just to support GOG. As it stands, $20 is a stupid price to do that, when I have the game retail and on steam already. When it drops to $9.99 in a sale, I'll buy it to support GOG, but until then, I lose nothing by continuing to play it on Steam.
+1 on the principle.

Although, there might be some people out there who don't want to own it ( I personnally never liked this type of game. I gave RCT 2 a try though, but no, didn't feel like my type of game ) .

Why must we have this discussion everytime gog offers a price equal to other digital stores and people put links to an on sale game or retail version and say they are getting ripped off.

ABH20: Why shouldn't we compare retail to digital? Because the whole point with digital distribution is that it's meant to be CHEAPER than physical retail, since there's all kinds of middle costs removed from the process like manufacturing and shipping.

Do you seriously think it's acceptable that a physical disc copy of a game in a store has a vastly cheaper standard price at retail than a digital online copy?

Do you think it's acceptable for publishers to gouge prices like this online, as long as they do it with each online service it's sold at? Does that make it okay?
I agree in theory Retail should cost more, there is the disc, the packaging, production cost of the physical media but of coarse that is not reality. They decided to charge the same for Retail and Digital even though it cost less for the digital. That is just how it is.

When they sell the game to a retail store, the store can charge anything they want for it even at a loss, but with digital the game isn't sold till the purchaser buys, so it is a different system so why compare? I never said it was right , its just a different way of selling, apples and oranges at least to me it is.

And I bought Shogun 2 + Fall of the Samurai for a CS:GO key so? :) The point was that the retail price for Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum in US is 30$ / DD price is 20-30$ too :)

At risk of receiving some hate: is it because you aren't paying some of your local taxes?
This is how it works at my country, people tend to buy games from far away so they can overpass the ridiculous amount of taxes there are around here. This is just a curiosity about the price you reported, without comparing it to dd. Totally off-topic.
