Here's to new beginnings!

Risen, a robust fantasy action-RPG from the Piranha Bytes studio, the developer behind the classic Gothic games, is now available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the next 48 hours to start a new epic adventure!

It all begins on a mysterious volcanic island. The heavy tremors on the island bode ill for its inhabitants. Ancient temples have risen from the ground recently, bizarre creatures are terrorizing the area. Fear and terror is spreading among the population. Is it the end of all hope? A group of powerful men who call themselves "The Inquisitors" have taken it upon themselves to put an end to these events. They send an expedition to this remote island, but a storm takes hold of the ship and destroys it at sea. It was foretold that a hero will come, and the fate played its marked cards to set the events in motion. As if by a miracle, you survive the shipwreck and are stranded on the volcanic island alone. You find yourself amidst a chaos of rebellion, tyranny, and mystic rituals. It is up to you to decide to which side the pendulum of fate will swing.

In the epic world of Risen, filled with mysterious earthquakes, fearsome monsters, and unimaginable treasures, forge your path with the sword, learn the art of staff fighting, or become a powerful mage. Delve into a gritty, raw, and atmospheric fantasy world in which every action has a consequence. The game comes from the German Piranha Bytes studio, the team who brought us all three classic iterations in the fan-favorite Gothic Series. Do you want to see how the creators of one of the most acclaimed RPGs could do with the power of the modern gaming machines? Now you can, and with the 48-hour special launch offer you'll be amazed by the value you get for just $3.99 of your money.

With the addition of Risen to our DRM-Free catalog, we welcome a new publisher, Deep Silver, onboard GOG.com! There's no better way to start a new beautiful friendship, than with an epic RPG, especially when it comes with a 60% launch discount, that will be available until Saturday, April 5, at 9:59AM GMT.
Haven't played it yet but a good release either way. Have it on Steam already but I'm gladly gonna buy it here again at this amazing price.

JudasIscariot: No, it's an official patch from Deep Silver and everything :)

Oh right, thanks!
I also urge everyone to play the first and (for now) only total conversion Neuland (English version). It's pretty small and short, because it was only intended to showcase what you can do with the community-made modding tools, but it's still more than worth your time. There are also several well hidden secrets, and you will probably need a few hours to find them all.

Hoooo finally!!!

Tnx Gog and Tnx Deep Silver. Now we wait for all Deep Silver games soon on gog.com!
Nice release and welcome Deep Silver

Regarding other tittes from them, we known Risen 2 is already confirmed for future release (hope Risen 3 will be relased here too), Dead Island/Riptide are a bit problematic being Steamworks titlles, don't remember if Metro have a non-Steam version. At least Sacred 2 Gold must be here

jamyskis: And they'd be right. The publishing rights for Sacred 2 in Japan lie with Dwango.
For console, perhaps. Not PC. And the other games you mentioned, all published by Deep Silver on PC in Japan for Steam too.

jamyskis: ...I dunno where the change of heart has come from, but the very extensive Humble Deep Silver Bundle last year tells me that their Steam sales probably aren't as stellar as they'd like them to be.
I guess that is true. Money convinced them finally, not a change of heart. They have a history of being Steam fanboys, but now with going GOG they have come back to the club of good guys. So I don't care for the reason (but guess it is financial) as long as they stay here and do not insist on excessive regional pricing.

JudasIscariot: Sauce...
No thanks, I just had lunch. :P

Congratulations on getting a new publisher on board.
Always good to see new publishers on GOG! Deep Silver has a good amount of interesting titles I always avoided only due to DRM reasons (I made exceptions just for Risen 1&2), so let's hope they will release many more DRM-free games from now on!
As an old timer Piranha Bytes fan, I really loved Risen: if you liked the Gothic series, you definitely can't go wrong with this one. It improves A LOT the formula of Gothic 3, and revives the old passion for discovery and exploration of an unknown world. Warmly recommended!

catpower1980: Deep Silver titles of interest :

<snip>

Quite an impressive catalogue of newer games...
Hmm not sure about most of them, however looking forward to Sacred 2 & 3, and now Risen 2 (and 3?). Maybe Saints row if the other games show themselves to be good.

Now I just gotta wait for my money to transfer to PayPal so I can pick this up...

MasodikTiasma: I heard the 360 version was awfully optimised and really ugly, but not so on PC, not at all. It ran very well, I didn't encounter any bugs (I'm not saying there aren't any, maybe I just got lucky), the graphics were high quality for 2009 and the environments absolutely gorgeous. The NPC not so much on the other hand, you can see that in the screenshots...
I don't suppose there's any patches (official or otherwise) to update/improve the models and textures? I certainly don't expect this to be like TES Morrowind which got a huge graphical update via community support; Could be something similar out there... But I'm doubting Risen has an open editor.

is it completely independent from the official game's story? Could it be enjoyed even before finishing Risen?
Excellent release! Wishlisted for now as I am short on funds at the moment. Looking forward to the release of part 2, and hopefully some other Deep Silver games as well. Thanks Deep Silver and GOG!
