Here's to new beginnings!

Risen, a robust fantasy action-RPG from the Piranha Bytes studio, the developer behind the classic Gothic games, is now available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the next 48 hours to start a new epic adventure!

It all begins on a mysterious volcanic island. The heavy tremors on the island bode ill for its inhabitants. Ancient temples have risen from the ground recently, bizarre creatures are terrorizing the area. Fear and terror is spreading among the population. Is it the end of all hope? A group of powerful men who call themselves "The Inquisitors" have taken it upon themselves to put an end to these events. They send an expedition to this remote island, but a storm takes hold of the ship and destroys it at sea. It was foretold that a hero will come, and the fate played its marked cards to set the events in motion. As if by a miracle, you survive the shipwreck and are stranded on the volcanic island alone. You find yourself amidst a chaos of rebellion, tyranny, and mystic rituals. It is up to you to decide to which side the pendulum of fate will swing.

In the epic world of Risen, filled with mysterious earthquakes, fearsome monsters, and unimaginable treasures, forge your path with the sword, learn the art of staff fighting, or become a powerful mage. Delve into a gritty, raw, and atmospheric fantasy world in which every action has a consequence. The game comes from the German Piranha Bytes studio, the team who brought us all three classic iterations in the fan-favorite Gothic Series. Do you want to see how the creators of one of the most acclaimed RPGs could do with the power of the modern gaming machines? Now you can, and with the 48-hour special launch offer you'll be amazed by the value you get for just $3.99 of your money.

With the addition of Risen to our DRM-Free catalog, we welcome a new publisher, Deep Silver, onboard GOG.com! There's no better way to start a new beautiful friendship, than with an epic RPG, especially when it comes with a 60% launch discount, that will be available until Saturday, April 5, at 9:59AM GMT.

catpower1980: Deep Silver titles of interest :

- Sacred 2 & 3 (upcoming)
- Killer Is Dead (upcoming)
- Nail'd
- The Secret Files series
- Risen 1 & 2
- Saints Row 3 & 4
- Dead Island & DI Riptide
- Metro 2033 & Last Light

Quite an impressive catalogue of newer games...
Id take the Sacred 2 and 3 (im going to guess 3 will be a regional priced one :/ )
Risen 1 & 2
Saints Row 2 & 3
Pass on DI series
Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light :)
For those unaware: this is the REAL Gothic 4, not that piece of shit Arcania which was made by a completely different team

Nice to have this here! Looking forward to seeing the sequel here sometime soon as well!

Also, Deep Silver, please release the Metro series here, pretty please
Payday can't come soon enough.
Not really interested in this one, still have the 2 first Gothics untouched in my backlog... on the other hand, Deep Silver feature as publishers of ParaWorld, so here's hoping :-)

stardust_79: For me, Risen is better than Gothic 3 on every aspects: better optimization and very stable, better world (smaller but more interesting), better story and above all, better gameplay ans combat system with an excellent IA.

On of my favorite RPG ever, I've to say :)
You're right, it's more stable, relatively bug-free (but not entirely, you still should install the unofficial patch for this game) and certainly better as a software product than Gothic 3 (G3 without the community patch that is, and GOG includes that), but then again the world is waaaay smaller, the factions aren't as involving, there's less content. Maybe I'm exaggerating, been ages since I played any of these games, I just remember G3 as being massive while Risen felt cramped.
LOL!

Nice Release today. Instabuy.
But I'm more interested in Risen 2 because I haven't played the second part until today. So I hope this will also be released soon.
Nothing for me :(

As with most releases lately.
Finally the true successor of Gothic 1+2.
Gothic3 was a collection of bugs (and I found it rather boring compared to the first 2) and gothic4 was a joke (never played it, but what I saw was bad enough).
Combat has also improved (at least I think so). Be prepared to block a lot.

Crosmando: Risen 2 I have heard from various accounts is the "Dragon Age 2" of the series and worth staying away from.
It's not so bad - still has large and interesting areas to explore, decent dialogue and plot, good graphics (though some objects load into view at a rather short distance*).

Downsides (compared to Risen) are a somewhat worse combat system, simplified character/skill development, wonky camera controls (vertical sensitivity too low* with no separate in-game setting)

*settings files can be tweaked outside of the game to fix these issues
Very impressive release.
I already have it on Steam and I don't know whether I will actually play through it one day, but I'm going to buy it another time just to support Deep Silver's decision to finally join GOG and sell Risen here in German, DRM-free and without demanding regional pricing, not to mention at a high dicount. Kudos to everyone involved!

Also, even without playing it too much, the game has already brought me quite a bit of entertainment and amusement due to its weird English intro movie, which is a funny case of Lost In Translation. :D

I never finished Gothic 3 because the game is way too large, with many any many crappy fights and difficult storyline to follow. What's more, the only interesting area in Gothic 3 (IMO) was Myrtana with its beautiful forests, but the mazelike Nordmard was so annoying to explore. Varant desert was a bit better, but became quickly tedious because of the overcrawed of scorpions and other creatures to slash over and over.

Matter of tastes, I guess, but for me Risen still my best experience so far.
