Here's to new beginnings!

Risen, a robust fantasy action-RPG from the Piranha Bytes studio, the developer behind the classic Gothic games, is now available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the next 48 hours to start a new epic adventure!

It all begins on a mysterious volcanic island. The heavy tremors on the island bode ill for its inhabitants. Ancient temples have risen from the ground recently, bizarre creatures are terrorizing the area. Fear and terror is spreading among the population. Is it the end of all hope? A group of powerful men who call themselves "The Inquisitors" have taken it upon themselves to put an end to these events. They send an expedition to this remote island, but a storm takes hold of the ship and destroys it at sea. It was foretold that a hero will come, and the fate played its marked cards to set the events in motion. As if by a miracle, you survive the shipwreck and are stranded on the volcanic island alone. You find yourself amidst a chaos of rebellion, tyranny, and mystic rituals. It is up to you to decide to which side the pendulum of fate will swing.

In the epic world of Risen, filled with mysterious earthquakes, fearsome monsters, and unimaginable treasures, forge your path with the sword, learn the art of staff fighting, or become a powerful mage. Delve into a gritty, raw, and atmospheric fantasy world in which every action has a consequence. The game comes from the German Piranha Bytes studio, the team who brought us all three classic iterations in the fan-favorite Gothic Series. Do you want to see how the creators of one of the most acclaimed RPGs could do with the power of the modern gaming machines? Now you can, and with the 48-hour special launch offer you'll be amazed by the value you get for just $3.99 of your money.

With the addition of Risen to our DRM-Free catalog, we welcome a new publisher, Deep Silver, onboard GOG.com! There's no better way to start a new beautiful friendship, than with an epic RPG, especially when it comes with a 60% launch discount, that will be available until Saturday, April 5, at 9:59AM GMT.
I had the Xbox 360 version of this game and found it barely playable at worst and kinda bland at best. Most of my problems might be the fault of the lack of power in the Xbox 360. However, I must ask, does this version fix all the problems so well that it would be worth getting it twice? I might need something to hold me over until Witcher 3 comes out, not that there's nothing else I can play. I also acknowledge this plays very differently from Witcher.

Good release, and nice to see 500+ votes marked as "completed".

But I am disappointed we didn't see an older title released this week. (I'm pretty sure Tommo still has some good old games that could come...) And I was kind of hoping the hint was somehow actually for Final Fantasy 7.
Great game, multilanguage, 60% off on release? Instabought!

Roman5: For those unaware: this is the REAL Gothic 4, not that piece of shit Arcania which was made by a completely different team

Nice to have this here! Looking forward to seeing the sequel here sometime soon as well!

Also, Deep Silver, please release the Metro series here, pretty please
It always felt that way to me. I think during the time PB made this game they were in a feud with JoWood with whom they singed a contract over the gothic IP. So they could not "legally" do another gothic until the contract was over and decided to instead waste their time - make Risen.

I don't, would you mind explaining it to me? I thought it was just a typo. ;)
Great news, bought a copy as a gift to show my support. I am really looking forward to the release of Risen 2, instabuy in case of a decent lanch discount. Thanks, GOG.

Roleplaying game?

I checked without translating the text and that's how I saw that word. At first, I thought Chrome was being trollish but then I refreshed and did NOT allow it to translate the page and thus now you have some Rollenspielespiele to explain away :P

Easier to just hide away the second part, because it doesn't make any sense, not even in a weird language like German. :) The actual word for roleplaying games is Rollenspiele.

And it's coming from $20 on, at least that's the wording in the article. It could mean regional prices. If they make the $1=1€ crap I swear I will take back all the good words I said about them.

Direct translation of "role playing game" into german. Only happens that play and game are the same word. *shrug*

In a way english is the weird language here using play and game which is very similar.

Actually never heard it like that. Most of the times people say Computer Rollenspiel = computer role (playing) game.

Good thing I didn't say any good words about DS, just that it's good to see Risen here... Expected R2 to be regionally priced actually, considering recent events, so if confirmed I'll just put DS on the boycott list with the rest. But if GOG will stick to the full compensation idea (and will actually turn it into store credit instead of codes later this year) I still won't carry that ill will back to them anymore... Though I'd still very strongly prefer not to see regional pricing in any way, shape or form on here, of course, as that's the only way to have a hope to someday get the practice out of the industry.
