Despite the GOG goodies, If I don't see it on sale this weekend or something, I'm likely getting it from Steam. It isn't that I don't think it'll be a good game or worth the money, it's just I only have so much to spend at any given time.

I'm always looking for the best price, and so far, Steam has it. Even if I have been a GOG customer for years now.

EDIT: Well, hrm.. if I buy it straight from the developer's site, is the DRM-free version GOG's? I actually kind of like the idea of getting both a Steam and GOG version for a single price. It'd let me get the extra goodies, but also allow to get achievements.

I do the achievements simply for myself, just to clarify.

Hmm, be careful with Retro City Rampage on other sites than GOG/developer. One of the released versions has a no-save bug (the game doesn't let you save). It doesn't happen with the GOG version, but it does with Humble Indie Bundle. Dunno about Steam, but considering their past record, they usually don't care enough so it might as well never be fixed.

I got it from GOG and everything is fine.
Developer version use Humble Store. It gives you DRM-free standalone version similar to GOG version and a Steam key. Also, and this doesn't happen with all Humble Store release, it gives you a GOG redeem code so to me developer version is the best choice in all cases: you give developer the most and get all the versions of the game so you don't have to choose.
this is the only game that I can recall in my soon-to-be 3 decades as a gamer, where I've actually been anticipating release enough to warrant me getting pissed off with a few hours of delay

my initial reaction when it was first postponed a couple of months ago, was to verbally attack the creator

why?

because I could do nothing but stare at screenshots/videos of this being played, since there was no way I'd make it across the ocean to the U.S., just in order to get a hands-on try on one of the releases

now that it's finally been released and I spent a good 2 hours playing it last night, I can't stress enough how great I find this game to be

the references, the music, the graphics, the [everything] simply pulls me back to the 80's and I feel as if though I was once again a young boy with a passion for computer-games

the fact that I have it hooked up to my "retro-computer" on a phat 28" TV and playing with a controller, merely adds to the experience

this isn't a game for everyone, due to it's pop-culture references, 8-bit style and minimalistic sounds, etc.

but for those of us who have any kind of affiliation for these kinds of games and this era (the 80's), this is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece which will most likely not be "surpassed" by any other game in the coming future(s)

the whole game is so specifically designed that I don't see this as a "competitor" on any level against any other game(s), but rather as a stand-alone entry in a genre not equivalent to any other out there (sure you could compare it to GTA I/II/London, but it's not nearly the same premise)

this game won't garner as much attention as other indies, such as Minecraft, FTL, Fez, etc. but for those of us whom this is directed towards will find that this is a true milestone in what gaming has evolved into and to release in 2012 was probably the best thing that could happen, as those of us born in the 70's->early 80's have been around long enough to "get" most of the references, as well as (hopefully) enjoyed these kinds of graphics/style whilst at the same time knowing that it is meant to be a "dated" experience and doesn't try to cover it up in any way
it may not be "100% 8-bit", but it's as damn close as it can get with this level of depth and I for one am glad that I preordered at full price, because this man truly deserves every penny

Videotraf: It goes nearly 1 dollar per one megabyte...
The amount of memory a game takes up is mostly based on textures and sound. The game has intentionally dated graphics (it looks amazing if you like the style) and nes like sound effects. I'd be more concerned if it took up more memory.
From what I've played so far it's got lots of content.
UPDATE: Chiptune fans, rejoice! We've just added extra 10 exclusive tracks from the Retro City Rampage OST to our edition of the game (on top of the previous 10 demo tracks). GOG.com release of Retro City Rampage is the only offer to feature this content!

Very cool! Them extras, son! (Maybe they knew that extras are a decent part of what GOG provides, whereas Steam doesn't worry about them as much, aside from soundtracks sometimes.)

I hate to break it to you, but unless I'm mistaken, these appear to be the same ten bonus tracks that were made available months ago to people who pre-ordered it straight from the devs.

You are correct. And now, once the game is out, the only offer that includes them can be found here, on GOG.com.
I really wish i could get this awesome game! it is probably my most wanted game right now
I asked in a few places, and it appears the multiple keys were only available as part of pre-orders. I wish I'd known.

EDIT: To be specific, you do get multiple keys, but getting all three was ONLY for preorders. Here's the email I got back directly from the developers: "You will get either a DRM-Free copy + a Steam key, or a DRM-Free copy + a GOG key. All three were only for preorders."

This does not make the choice any easier. I will probably end up getting it on Steam because it is cheaper right now. Unless GOG plans to.. you know.. actually compete and offer a better sale price.
