Free Mars, or die trying!

Red Faction, a critically acclaimed and extremely revolutionary *wink* first-person shooter with destructible terrain and a close-range hard Sci-Fi setting, is available 70% off on GOG.com, as a part of our Red Faction 1+2 Bundle deal. That's only $2.99 for the first 72 hours!

You are Parker, a weary miner who works for the corrupt Ultor Corporation. You reside on Mars, sometime in the future, and when a plague spreads through the mining community, some of the Ultor employees uncover a massive conspiracy. Thus ensues a battle by a group of lowly workers, provoked to uprise by your own actions and to expose the deadly experiments Ultor has unleashed onto its work force. History will judge you. Make sure your faction wins, so its your people who get to write the history books.

Red Faction was a very big leap forward in the FPS genre. It introduced many new technical features such as location-based damage system, real-time skeletal deformation, advanced physics simulation, destructible environment and more. The unprecedented (at the time) interaction with the environment creates a very strong feeling of immersion that is very impressive even by today's standards. With an engaging story to tell, a unique set of features such as location-based damage system, real-time skeletal deformation, operational land, sea, and air vehicles, advanced physics simulation, and destructible environment, it's safe to say the game well deserved all the critical acclaim it got.

Play your part in the history of Mars in Red Faction, for only $2.99 on GOG.com. The special 70% off release bundle offer lasts only until Friday, February 14, at 10:59AM GMT. The games are also available separately, 60% off.
Red Faction is definitely something that should be on GOG so great to see it here.

Also I don't know how different the GOG version is from retail but Pure Faction is definitely something to check

http://purefaction.org
"Pure Faction is a community made patch for the PC game Red Faction 1. It adds functionality such as automatic map downloads, support for modern hardware, bug fixes, new maps, updated level editor, server creation assistance, first person spectate, a new user friendly ingame interface and many other features."

First S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and now this! My wallet is bleeding but these games are soooo freaking awesome! I'm glad I didn't get the Steam versions this past winter sale
Btw., are the GOG versions uncensored? The german retail verson is censored so i just wanna be sure.
Had you released this a few months earlier, I'd have ignored that 1 dollar RF1+2 bundle that I bought for the semi-buggy Steam version, and I would've bought it again here on GOG. But now it's too late, I already played RF1 and a bit of RF2, and I wasn't too impressed by them. Not enough to buy them a second time.

Good news for those who wait, I guess.

Impaler26: Not quite my cup of tea but it's still good to see the Red Faction games here on GOG.

Yep, bring on Summoner GOG!

ThomNG: February will stay being a great month for you ;)
If Summoner is coming, one request, please include the soundtrack.
Let's bring votes to Red Faction: Guerrilla here: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/red_faction_guerrilla

Got all 100% gamerscore points on the Xbox 360. Got around 85%-ish trophies on the PS3. Guerrilla is a good open world game IMO.

Armageddon on the other hand is too linear, boring & repetitive.
despite the fact that FPS games are much more playable on PCs than especially their PS2 versions, I have some concerns about Red Faction games. For Red Faction 1, the Metascore is 10 points higher for PS2 than PC.
As for Red Faction 2, I saw this on the wiki page: "IGN gave Red Faction II a 9.2/10; however, they were more negative about the Microsoft Windows version, criticizing the port's average looking graphics and incredibly short single-player campaign.
Game Rankings site page shows more marginal scores for the PC release, as low as 2 out of 5."

So I was wondering if both games are inferior on PC?

Interesting, I personally found Guerilla listless and boring, while I quite enjoyed Armageddon.
I'm pretty sure Nordic scored the rights to the whole line of Red Faction titles, so seeing Guerrilla and Armageddon at some point is very feasible. I hope to see them at some point!

damien:
I have both Red Factions on PC and I thought they were good (the first one is excellent), the only reason I can think of why the PS2 versions score higher is because of the technology used.
The games weren't the best looking on the PC at the time but for a PS2 they are more impressive.
Personally I prefer it on the PC as you don't have to deal with autoaim/magnetic crosshairs which in my oppinion is always better than any console shooter.
This rocks. Finally a copy of RF2 that works. Now we just need Guerilla so I can play with the banhammer and we all set.
You know, I think I might point out that The Elder Scrolls: Arena had destructible environment 7 years earlier. Or rather, you could use passwall spell to destroy walls.

Nah, in this case it's more a case of platform standards really, other than driver compatibility problems at launch there's nothing the PS2 versions have over these, it's just the console didn't have much in the way of compelling FPS software while on the PC the games had far, far stiffer competition in a highly saturated genre. At their cores, Red Faction 1 & 2 are decidedly average playing shooters with some impressive technical tricks, hence the lower scores.

Cool. I still have my CD of this game here somewhere. Wasn't very impressed by it back then. But it is of course only the German version or - how I call it - the kindergarten version.
Excellent release, used to love playing this on PS2 back in the day. Will definitely have to pick this up and relive the memories.
