It's a Myst-y mountain hop!

realMyst: Masterpiece Edition, a beautifully updated version of realMYST, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Myst on GOG.com for $11.99 (33% off the full price) until 9:59 AM GMT 10 May 2014. For those of you who already own realMyst, the launch discount lasts until 9:59 AM GMT 08 June 2014.

Alone on a mysterious island, you set out to explore its grandeur and mystery. Hear how a chilling tale of intrigue and treachery, defying all boundaries of space and time, is being told. Summon your wits and imagination. Every scrap of paper and ambient sound may provide the vital clues which allow hidden secrets to unravel a part of the mystery and lead you one step closer to reversing a wrong that has gone unchecked for ages.

realMyst: Masterpiece Edition, this is not your father’s Myst! It’s been 20 years since Myst became your world, and there’s never been a better time to revisit the Ages. This newly refreshed and rebuilt version of realMyst is all-things Myst, but amazingly more real. You can explore anywhere, unfettered, and in realtime! As a tribute to Myst's 20th anniversary, the original Myst images have been incorporated into the game and you can switch between the classic version and the remastered edition with a single key press!

We at GOG.com would also like to send out a very heartfelt THANK YOU! to one of our community members who goes by the nick LCRockfish. Thank you for the manual for realMyst! One last thing: SpiderFighter, you can remove realMyst from your GOG Mix now :)

Step into the Ages of Myst Island in the newly remastered realMyst: Masterpiece Edition for only $11.99 until until 9:59 AM GMT 10 May 2014 (08 June 2014 for owners of realMyst ).

Wishbone: How many different versions of the same game does it make sense to have here as separate products?
Is it just me or is this version not showing up when you search for it, only the other 2? Or is it just normal for a new release to start showing up?
Not unwelcome, but I'd rather they remade Riven. There are now 4 distinct versions of Myst while Riven falls further and further behind.
Just to make sure: Will realMyst stay in GOG's catalogue or are there plans of removing it?

Try typing in "real" followed by one space :)

So for those who are coming to Myst for first time, which one is the one to get? (and no i dont intend to get all of them...seriously 4 versions???),,,,
There's a bit of a feeling of milking the cow dry with this one. Yeah, it's a bit prettier and propably runs better on newer machines than the old versions, but I wouldn't presonally go and buy this, espeaiclly as it looks there's not really THAT much work done with it. The models look pretty much as low poly as they do on the Real Myst. The biggest difference seems to be some re-texturing and better rendering engine and the foliage. But none of that really effects on the game itself, not in the level I'd go a buy it.

Riven would quite an expensive game to remake and actually make it look better than the original. Even today in stretched 640x40 resolution Riven still looks amazing, which I would attribute to the prerendered graphics.
I was wondering if GOG would release it when I saw the Steam version... I was right to wait. Instabuy!
Good, now I can feel like a total idiot with the help of updated graphics. :P

I think the main impulse behind this remake wasn't milking but simply Cyan wanting Myst to be preserved and be playable on modern computers and resolutions not just now but well into the future.

Just 3 I think: Masterpiece Ed, realMyst and realMyst: Masterpiece Ed
I think its that Masterpiece Ed had the extra chapter but realMyst was proper 3D and not 'flickbook' and now the new one is proper 3D AND has the extra chapter so I'd go for this one, unless you are a particular flickbook aficionado or you don't want to spoil yourself for Riven...

Undoubtedly lovely looking, but there's no way in hell I'm paying $12 for the same game with shinier graphics again.

Grargar: Are you a mathematician, in addition to being a GOG staff member and a professional thief?
Duh! He has to calculate how much, and how often, he can steal from the offices before the risk of getting caught gets too high compared to his evasion skill.

I was thinking Niggles meant 'on GOG' unless its included as an extra somewhere, saying that, reading his post again, maybe he didn't...
The masters of releasing the same game over and over again.
