The adventure begins anew!

Prince of Persia the 2008 beautifully re-envisioned installment of one of the most prominent action/platformer series with gorgeous visuals and an a fascinating storyline, is now available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

Yet again we find the young Prince chasing after Farah... Oh, wait. This isn't Farah that we remember! The Prince looks entirely different as well. And this girl, Elika? What's her story? She looks intriguing - not your typical damsel in distress. Quite the opposite, actually. She's the damsel putting the Prince in distress. Not a problem! The Prince is ready to take on any trouble head on with his deadly Daggertail, while stopping time with the magic of the Sands. What? That's gone too? Then how is he gonna whoop his enemies' behinds? Oh... I see. That's amazing swordplay, indeed. No need for gadgets and gimmicks when you have that good old sword. Alright then, Prince. As the unwitting incompetent narrator of this story I'm now convinced that you'll do just fine. Even though you're up against an angry, destructive deity this time. Oh, you didn't know about THAT? Well, don't worry, carry on with your adventure.

In 2008 Prince of Persia served as a reboot to the iconic action-adventure series, originally created by the gaming industry visionary Jordan Mechner. The game features a new storyline, brings in a fresh batch of characters and enemies, offers some original gameplay mechanics, and--once again--re-designs combat sequences. It's back to the original one-on-one sword duels, but this time the enemies are often larger, stronger and more dangerous. Luckily the Prince has the mysterious (and frankly: quite cute) Elika on his side, to support him with her magical powers. All of this, presented in highly stylized cel-shaded graphics that makes the game a real feast for the eyes.

Feel the sun-scorched desert sands under your feet as you race towards a whole new breathtaking adventure in Prince of Persia, for only $9.99!

NightK: Don't be like that, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

POLE7645: I'd agree to an extend. But when I see reviews like the one titled "Retard-friendly game", I don't count this as opinion. This is simple bashing.

Already finished that game with 100% (including getting the trophy of not letting Elika save you more than 100 times. Hard if you think this game isn't challenging enough.) on PS3. But I think I'll buy it just for the soundtrack. It's that good.

In my opinion, it's an underrated game. Far from the worst Prince of Persia out there (and no, I liked Prince of Persia 3D. The worst in my opinion is Prince of Persia 2 on SNES).
Like I mentioned before I was talking about forum posts not 1 phrase/title reviews.

Endzville: It is unbearably repetitive and simplistic, not to mention very easy seeing as you can never fail (not that I know of anyway).

bazilisek: Remember this screen? When you see this screen, that means you failed. And admit it, you saw that screen pretty often.

Someone else already said this here: replace this screen in your mind with a fade to black, the words "game over" and a silent auto-load of the last checkpoint. There. Is the game better now? If so, why?
They should have made some sort of record/stats/tracking menu where you could check how many times you failed, fought, etc, it would make it fun to check and maybe extend the game replayability and would fix the problem implied.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the game and actually wanted another one in this setting.

First, read that particular review in this entirety and you'll see what I mean.

As for your second point, there is a trophy/archievement in the console versions that requires you to be saved by Elika less than 100 times. It's actually quite challenging (especially if you want to 100% the game on top of that). There are also speed challenges. Unfortunately, neither trophies/archievements or stats screen exists on the PC version as far as I know.

nijuu: Wasn't one of the criticisms of this game was it was too easy and you couldn't really die?.
avatar
NightK: Yes, from what I recall(I really only played a little of the game to try it and then backlogged it) the female partner is god-like and doesn't let you die but you are fighting another god-like being.

Still the game is fun, the story engaging isn't that what counts?
Well yes, but still if its too easy....... it aint a challenge.....argh
A weird game for me; it's what I could call a "guilty pleasure".

It a game I should hate, it's a cashing sequel/reboot of a successful franchise that bear very little resemblance with the previous games, it's dumbed down as can be, crappy uninteresting fights (be it normal fight or boss fights), no challenge at all (the only time I fell to my death when I tried to control the character instead of letting the game play itself) , etc... And when I played I expected to hate it, the only reason I bought it was because it was DRM-free and I wanted to support Ubisoft for that....

...and yet against my better judgement I must admit that I really enjoyed the game. I don't really know why, it's probably the world and the level design, the fact that you spend 95% of the game walking on walls instead of floor, etc...

The same game with same graphics and level design but with Warrior Within's combats and some better puzzles and it would have been my favorite PoP game.
Ubisoft is really embracing the notion of excluding DRM and offering games at a decent price. Will we see some Anno and Heroes of Might and Magic VI soon?
The graphics in this game look truly amazing. Never got to playing it though, since I still need to complete Two thrones and Warrior within first.
Fans are apparently bashing low-rating reviews of this game. Not that the low-rating reviews tell much, but still, the bashing does look biased.

You and me, dude. You and me.
I bought this from another site a few years back, sadly that site sold out to another firm and the new firm didn't allow me to download it again.....I do seem to recall that I kept being trapped by a bug in the game early on where Elika was suppose to climb a wall before me and due to some glitch she never did, so I uninstalled and gave up on it, as for more Ubisoft DRM free games.....yes please I love Assassin's creed for example and it would be great to be able to play more in the series without having to worry if my internet connection is behaving itself or not (even though I have bought all the AC games direct from UbiShop lol)
Do want this! Wishlisted!
Just want to give out some info regarding the DLC of this title

There was a very short "Epilogue" DLC episode released for the console versions of this game, I got it for free and played through it on PS3

This DLC never came out on the PC but I have to say, you aren't missing out on anything

It doesn't actually progress the story any further, neither does it give any answers to your questions you might have from the original ending

Bottom line: This game is great value for this price and these list of goodies, if you are a PoP Fan, you have to play this game
I own this one already on the PS3. I wasn't even aware that there was a PC version, nor that it was DRM-free to begin with (Ubi, they of the infamous Assassin's Creed 2 DRM, release a new game DRM-free? Bwuh??), but I'll definitely pick it up here to show some support for more DRM-free Ubi games.

I thougt:

Prince of Persia never has any DRM because Ubisoft did a experiment with this game,
they did not include DRM no cd-check or anything.

In the end it failed. Ubi says it was copied too often so that was the beginning of the Ubilauncher...

yay, then it's a game for me! I suck terribly at 3D platformers so if there's one as pretty as this one (and Elika ;), with decent story and not-so-finger-breaking gameplay, I'll give it a try :)
Great release. Please keep working bring here the original series too.
Ok, I watched a complete playthrought of the DLC on YouTube this morning and now I can say for sure that we didn't miss anything on PC.

Let's buy this !
