Great as the Sphinx, powerful as the pharaohs, more time-consuming than building the pyramids.

Pharaoh + Cleopatra, a city management gem from the creators of Caesar III and Zeus + Poseidon, is available now on GOG.com for only $9.99.

You cannot get any better in terms of PC city building: all of the experience in making fantastic construction and management games of Impressions Games (Caesar and Zeus series), and all of the publishing expertise of legendary Sierra Entertainment, combine with a dash of the fascinating world of the Sphinx, Pyramids, and the Egyptian Gods and some historical knowledge, and you've got yourself Pharaoh + Cleopatra. It’s a SimCity type of game but with more content than sand in the Sahara Desert. Building, trade, farming, health care, immigration, military, and, of course, building monuments and temples to please the gods.

Pharaoh + Cleopatra offers not only gorgeous 2D isometric graphics (and hieroglyphic buttons!) with flawless game design, but is an “Egyptology for Dummies” text-book as well: the richly detailed world, dependent on the great Nile and its flows, the wild animals, the great heights and the tragic lows. This game stays true to chronological order of national disasters, births and deaths of notable leaders, and the founding and fall of ancient cities in the history of Egypt.

Pharaoh + Cleaopatra should come with a notice: it’s extremely addictive, time- and eyedrop- consuming, if applied without caution may result in sleep deprivation and extreme interest in ancient cultures of Nile Valley. You have been warned, but it might be too late, since Pharaoh + Cleopatra is available now on GOG.com for only $9.99.

SirCabbage: Only downside is, it was the hardest one to get working on Vista/7. so I too really want it to be on GOG. you get to build things like the terracotta army, great wall of china, ect. VERY fun.
works flawlessly for me on W7x64. just install and run it. physical re-release by Sold-Out. and that goes for all Sierra city builders, so i doubt GOG had to do anything to these games. as far as crashes are concerned, GOG can't do anything about them unless they are caused by the copy protection, which is obviously removed for the GOG release. GOG doesn't have access to the source code.

Orly? maybe it was just my copy then. But I remember being unable to play it last time I wanted to. I guess I should try again, then again.. I am still with vista so that may be why. Then again, i'd take any excuse to play these games again lol
Popped over to youtube to see what all the fuss was about and I've just watched some kid spend 10 minutes laying out some roads!

Doesn't look good from an OCD point of view!

Think I'll pass - but it looks like I'll be in the minority :)

Roll-on weekend promo.... :P

ne_zavarj: May i ask how many boxed games do you buy in a year ?
avatar
Fred_DM: what does that matter?
It just seems a pretty standard thing for you to mention in new release threads, so we were curious.
Soo, that leaves only Emperor and Ceasar 1,2 and 4 are missing.

I've had Pharaohn long time ago but gone missing. So very good to see this game here.

SirCabbage: Besides that, I think it is a "better designed" game then Zeus, even if it still doesn't beat out Pharaoh, which in my opinion is the best of the series.
Zeus certainly had some very frustrating design flaws, so anything that improves upon its design is a good thing in my eyes. That said, Zeus and Pharaoh are such classic titles that I would honestly purchase anything in the same "series" of games sight unseen.

ne_zavarj: To Ghorpm .
Looks like someone owe me a game . :p
I've been waiting to play this game for AGES! (my CD is broken) Dude, you must have some miraculous powers to bring it here. Just look at that: we talked about two weeks and it's been released exactly at this time! Simply amazing!

Two copies bought! One for you and one for me, as promised!
Okay, I'm getting paid tomorrow, and this is as instabuy as they get (though I already have Pharaoh, but not Cleopatra, on disc). I decided to wait with Zeus, but as I had to get this NOW, I got the Greek one at the same time. Now I'm only missing Emperor.

I do have Caesar 4 but from what I've played of it, I'd rather forget it ever got made.

so you thought i was lying? lol. it just so happens that GOG starts releasing games i already bought earlier this year, or last year.

and of course, i do purchase a lot of games elsewhere. my GOG collection is around 100 games, i think. and that's tiny compared to my Steam collection, which in turn is tiny compared to my physical collection.

the reason i mention having already bought a newly released GOG elsewhere is so that GOG realises they have lost a sale because they were too slow with the releases and never bothered to put the games up as 'coming soon'. and i say that without any hard feelings or anything like that. it's just a fact.

Not at all.

Fair enough. (But as TET has mentioned, they don't put up many "coming soon"s because competition might plan to have a sale as soon as they release...)

well, competitors can't put on sale what they aren't selling, can they?

what's stopping GOG from saying - one way or another - what releases they have planned for the rest of the year, or at least the next few months?

every other digital distributor has a 'coming soon' section. every brick and mortar store has that as well. most stores - digital or not - take pre-orders, too, for most of their upcoming releases.

don't get me wrong. GOG can do things the way they want to, and they should. but it's clear to me that the current way of doing things makes them lose (potential) sales. GOG doesn't release games from one day to another. there have to have been contractual negotiations. release preparations, etc. yet they rarely announce what they are going to release. so i look elsewhere if i want something, no matter if it may eventually come to GOG or not.
Awesome release. Wishlisted until my summer paychecks start rolling in.
