In the dark, not alone.

Penumbra Collection, a set of three gripping horror games with a thick atmosphere of overwhelming terror and rich, interactive environment, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next two days!

Cold sweat running down your back, heart racing, you feel your hands tremble as you rest them on your keyboard. This is only a game--you tell yourself--I can play it, I can get through this. But the dimmed lights, and the silence of the night, make you feel like the real world does not exist anymore. It's only you, and the dark mystery before you. You can almost smell the damp, frowzy corridor as you progress slowly towards the half-open door. The darkness behind it swirls and creeps as if it was more than just the absence of light. It's only a game, you tell yourself once more--but the fear is real. It does not come from the screen. It originates deep inside you. It was always there, and the game it's just a trigger. Deep inside you suspect that dark things do exist in this world. The most frightening thing is: you start to believe it.

Penumbra Collection features all three episodes of the sensational horror series: Overture, that began the story of lethal terror and insanity, Black Plague, which picks up the tale where the first game abruptly ends, and Requiem, providing a chilling conclusion to the series. You will face unspeakable nightmares in eerie settings that will send chills down your spine while you unravel their dark and unnerving mysteries. From the masters of gaming frights, that later developed the memorable Amnesia: The Dark Descent, comes this modern horror classic. If you're a fan of the genre, your collection simply won't be complete without it!

There's more terror in the world than we can possibly imagine. Turn, and face the darkness creeping behind your back in Penumbra Collection, for only $4.99 on GOG.com. The 50% discount offer lasts 48 hours, that's until Thursday, August 1, at 9:59AM GMT.

F4LL0UT: Awesome! I just *love* Penumbra, I like it much more than Amnesia. Haven't beaten Black Plague yet, though, so I might eventually grab the GOG copy just for that.
Black Plague was awesome ! They gave up that stupid dogs and fighting from Overture and I was really crapping my pants playing it...
Edit: Ah shit, five bucks? Oh my... I don't think I can afford another game this month - but that deal is epic for the whole collection.
Strange words coming from a Polish folk. You could buy that in retail here for $5 years ago :P
This sucks i get paid tomorrow but i get off at 4pm T.T
Wow, that was quick. I didn't expect these games to come here right after Amnesia.

Ah shit, I actually confused things. I HAVE beaten Black Plague and I loved it. What I haven't played is the expansion pack Requiem.

Yeah, I don't buy Polish retail. Being unable to tell for sure which games are multilingual makes buying retail games in Poland a nightmare. Sure, there are a few where the box says that it includes English or is even English-only but I feel like I've already bought all of them ages ago. So I preferably stick to digital distributors where I know what's what. Only for PS3 games it's the other way around (I try to get a physical copy whenever possible - they seem to be more often multilingual than PSN downloads >.<).

Requiem is meh. There is no horror there. It's more like few puzzles including physics made into a game.

Bloodygoodgames: LOL - now I don't say this often but that was a dumb comment.

It's been on the site for less than a week and has already outsold almost 40 games, some that have been on the site for months. From seeing how well it continues to sell at many many sites, I'd say it will continue to go up the best seller list here as there are hundreds of thousands of gamers who still don't own it.

AlKim: 1) Amnesia has been available elsewhere for a year and a half, including a couple of Humble Bundles, deep Steam discounts and the developers' website (DRM-free, IIRC). People who want the game have had ample opportunity to buy it for peanuts, myself included.
2) The fact that it sells well at many many sites does not automatically mean that it will sell well at GOG. In fact it means that people who want the game likely own it already in one form of another.
3) Yeah, surely there are hundred of thousands if not millions of gamers who don't own it yet, but, as I said, they have had a fair share of opportunities to buy it from pretty much wherever they want. Perhaps they don't own it because they never wanted it in the first place?
4) I'm curious: how high up the bestseller list you think it will rise? I can't imagine it in the top 50, for instance.
Once it's been on the site as long as some of the other games have (some in the top 50 have been on the site almost since GOG began), I'd say top 50 easily.

Amnesia is one of the most popular indie games ever made, and one of the best, IMO, and there are still many many many gamers who don't own it (you only have to read the ones who have commented here that didn't own the game -- some of whom bought it and some who have 'wish-listed it' for later).

Plus, don't forget, we're likely to see the sequel here when it's released and that will motivate a lot more people to buy the original. I'll probably be one of those, as I own it on Humble right now but always seem to have problems with Humble downloads so will re-buy it at GOG soon.

Of course, I could be wrong :), but that's my sense. Amnesia is going to be one of those classic games that keeps selling, as it was really one of the first highly-successful mega-seller horror survival games from an indie developer -- the others being the Penumbra Collection.

It's not *really* a Frictional Games title, it's being developed by The Chinese Room, the people you might remember from the snorefest that Dear Esther was.
Oh wow -- I wished in the Amnesia release thread for Penumbra and AAMPF to come here, and I actually got one of my wishes :)

A few things I want to mention:

I am one of the people that prefers Overture to Black Plague. I won't give anything away so you'll have to forgive the vague wording, but there's a major character in BP who is really, REALLY obnoxious that IMO spends half the time ruining the mood of the game. He's not all bad (or rather, he's a horrible being that does really awful things that fit perfectly with the mood of the game, and that's the part of his character that makes him great), but this particular character just has a tendency to detract from the mood and atmosphere of the game.

Overture did not have this mood-breaking problem in the slightest (and really, who bothered fighting the dogs with the hammer? If this is your first time to the game, please, don't bother doing this, it's clunky and fairly pointless, just play the game normally). The major non-player character in Overture, by contrast to Black Plague, has one of the most compelling stories I've ever experienced in a game.

Different take on Requiem: while it's not as good as the first two, I still kinda liked it. It's less horror-oriented and a lot more surreal-oriented, but if you put it in the context of Black Plague's ending (again, no spoilers here) it does make sense that they'd go the route they did. I was fine with it, even if it wasn't as good as the other two.

I did like Requiem too, for its own merits! Some of the puzzles were quite clever. (steam version)
Overture wa a bit clumsy, fighting the dogs distracting.

Another welcome release. I liked all these games, although I think you have to make a conscious decision to ignore the combat option in Overture; there's a reason they removed it in the sequel. Requiem, which tends to be overlooked, is a fairly good puzzle game, although there were some obnoxious "know what you have to do but struggle with the game physics" moments for me.
For some reason I thought these were already available on GoG.
I must be losing my mind.
Another title with a Linux client but GOG still doesn't support Linux. Makes me sad. Including this, the last three releases all have Linux clients but you cannot get them on GOG, of course.
Ah, there a Linux version ? That's a no-go here then :(
Cool. Had been hoping for a while for Frictional to come here. Happy with Amnesia and now this. Maybe during the winter sale when my backlog is a little smaller.
