A conflict on a celestial scale!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/nexus_the_jupiter_incident/]Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, a story-driven real-time tactical game that puts a fleet of heavily armed spacecrafts at your command, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99!

You are Marcus Cromwell, a young and ambitious captain of a legendary Stiletto spacecraft. As your career begins, a devastating war over precious resources that could grant stellar dominion ensues on the edge of the solar system. Your tactical skill and battle expertise might prove to be the tipping point of the entire conflict that future generations would call “The Jupiter Incident”.

Nexus is a TFS--which stands for a Tactical Fleet Simulation according to the game’s developers--and that seems to be the most adequate of possible descriptions. In over 30 complex missions you will command a fleet of varied spacecrafts in a fully 3D environment, choosing your own tactics to push your forces towards the victory. And between battles you will manage your flotilla--upgrade, enhance and repair your ships with the resources awarded after a successful battle.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is a great tactical challenge with astounding visuals that will satisfy strategy gamers and space-opera fans alike, now on GOG.com for only $9.99
The game is excellent. In regards to the gameplay I liked it even more than Homeworld.

de_Monteynard: God damn it! I waited and waited and finally cracked and bought it on Steam during the sale, as I though it would never arrive here on GOG. Well, I completed the game already, but be certain that I will buy it at one point in the future.
I think GOG should frame this post and hang it in their office.

gameon: It's indie isn't it? It's not something i've heard of. I'd prefer a genuine high rated game of yesteryear.

TheEnigmaticT: I'm not sure that arguing over whether an 8 year old game should count as a classic or an indie is productive, really. Can't it count as both? Either way, it's something that would remind you a little of Space Rangers and a little of Homeworld and a little of Incubation. It's a crazy mash-up of genres, and one that I'm happy to have in the catalog.
Nexus is a classic...no question. ;)

keeveek: The promise "at least one classic game per week" is not valid anymore, huh?
avatar
Fenixp: Well clearly you've never played Nexus :-P
This.

DukeNukemForever: Last but not least another multilingual release, which is great ;-)

BreOl72: Hmm, the store page shows english only...what do you know, what I don`t? ;)
Early viewer problem, it seems it was a mistake and they fixed and removed it :-/
Dear god, nobody is happy with anything around here anymore.

You Sir, deserve a cookie (or an internet, whichever is your preferred currency).

keeveek: It has to be known for more than 3 people to be a classic :P I am one of those guys here who never heard about the game ;p

if you gave Gal Civ for instance... That would be something! :P
Well you clearly know and have played Galactic Civilization ... But the more attention Nexus gets, the better. That game is absolutely brilliant, and lies up there with homeworld in my list. With a good reason too, I love real-time tactical games and Nexus is simpy excellent in this field. You will be allocating power, choosing weapons, destroying subsystems, deploying commandos, bombers and fighters, there's quite simply everything a sci-fi nerd would ever want. It just didn't get enough press and not everyone is a sci-fi nerd, so the title didn't catch on fast enough - at any rate, everyone that I know of and that has played Nexus has loved the game.

I WANT THEME PARK WORLD NAU! :-( AND EA GAMES EXPANSIONS! :<<<

gameon: Ok, well it might be a sleeper hit to me, like Anachronox etc. Games i'd not heard of, but are good.
Calling Anachronox a "sleeper hit" is the biggest underestimation I heard in years!

Nexus is obscure on a whole different level. It is rather well know in Germany, but I think it didn't see any releases abroad. I could be wrong though..

thanks for recommendation, I will wishlist it.

I wrote my first comment about Nexus when it stated 2008 as release date on game page.

This.

I've heard a lot about Nexus, although I missed it first time round. Wishlisted for now.

Tolya: Unfortunately there won't be a Nexus 2 game :( The developer (Mithis) was closed by Square Enix in 2010 and the project was scrapped. Bits of info float around the internet though and some tech demos are still on afaik.
Guys called Most Wanted Entertainment are trying to make Nexus 2. Last year I think, they started a games-plant project that didn't work, and now there's a rumour that they'll try again with Kickstarter.

Edit: MW Games -> MW Entertainment

I have to say that graphically the game looks great. It's something i may try in the future, but i already have stuff like space rangers etc. I guess there will be plenty of you guys to buy the game before i do, lol.
Oh lawl, I get it know :d Nexus was released in 2008 IN POLAND. :D This is why I never heard about it...

I just keep agreeing with you until enough "play this game already" posts clutter up this thread.

I consider it "the better Homeworld". Homeworld had a better atmosphere and through that better "feel". But as a game Nexus is running circles around Homeworld.
