A conflict on a celestial scale!

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, a story-driven real-time tactical game that puts a fleet of heavily armed spacecrafts at your command, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99!

You are Marcus Cromwell, a young and ambitious captain of a legendary Stiletto spacecraft. As your career begins, a devastating war over precious resources that could grant stellar dominion ensues on the edge of the solar system. Your tactical skill and battle expertise might prove to be the tipping point of the entire conflict that future generations would call “The Jupiter Incident”.

Nexus is a TFS--which stands for a Tactical Fleet Simulation according to the game’s developers--and that seems to be the most adequate of possible descriptions. In over 30 complex missions you will command a fleet of varied spacecrafts in a fully 3D environment, choosing your own tactics to push your forces towards the victory. And between battles you will manage your flotilla--upgrade, enhance and repair your ships with the resources awarded after a successful battle.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is a great tactical challenge with astounding visuals that will satisfy strategy gamers and space-opera fans alike, now on GOG.com for only $9.99

Fred_DM: i think i'm set as far as space 4x games are concerned.
Ahahahah... It's not 4x. At all. It's mostly about management of small fleets, tracking the work of individual weapons systems and the like. It's the kind of game where you get to know every single turret personally.

Lexor: Really? I like strategies, but I've never heard of this one... o.o
avatar
Fred_DM: me neither.

no matter what game you're looking at, there's bound to be somebody claiming it's the best game ever. usually it's far from the truth.

i bought Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity and Galactic Civilizations 2 during the Steam Summer Sale. i think i'm set as far as space 4x games are concerned.
a) it's not a 4x game
b) I can give you a ton of very objective reasons why it's a fantastic game

keeveek: The promise "at least one classic game per week" is not valid anymore, huh?
It was released in 2004. That's not old enough to count as a classic?

EDIT: It's also one of my personal favorites, so I'd release it no matter how old it was. :P

DukeNukemForever: Not very long ago someone mentioned this here on the forum as a very good game. As far as I know the developer is working/planing the follower. Last but not least another multilingual release, which is great ;-) Good release!
Unfortunately there won't be a Nexus 2 game :( The developer (Mithis) was closed by Square Enix in 2010 and the project was scrapped. Bits of info float around the internet though and some tech demos are still on afaik.

Too bad, Nexus is actually one of the best space ship combat games and one of my favorite games of all time.

It's indie isn't it? It's not something i've heard of. I'd prefer a genuine high rated game of yesteryear.

Yeah, it's not a well known game and if you want more info, you can check my ancient http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/nexus_the_jupiter_incidentabout it. Yes, my english was even more horrible back then.

And where are my personal favorites ? :(

It is a genuine high rated game of yesteryear, it just didn't get a lot of press.

I swear I read the release date as January 21, 2008 while adding the wiki page. Is my reading failing even more, or should I blame the gremlins again?

Edit: The languages changed as well, I'm sure it also claimed Thai as a language... back to wiki editing.

I just posted a review of the game that will hopefully elucidate and convince those on the fence to go and buy the game. It is certainly one of the best space or tactical games out there and I have enjoyed replaying it a couple of days ago (damned Steam sale and one reason why release of games not on the "OMG the internet will explode with rage" game could be forewarned).

IIRC, it's was originally planned as a game in Imperium Galactica series, but they didn't scrape together enough budget.

Hmm, the store page shows english only...what do you know, what I don`t? ;)

On a side note: (taken from the store page)
Multiplayer notice: The game's multiplayer servers have been taken offline and the only multiplayer option available is LAN.

Nothing bad, at least in my world... LAN and hotseat, are the only multiplayermodes, one needs. :)

It has to be known for more than 3 people to be a classic :P I am one of those guys here who never heard about the game ;p

if you gave Gal Civ for instance... That would be something! :P

Yep, I saw 2008 too, maybe it was a mistake.

I'm not sure that arguing over whether an 8 year old game should count as a classic or an indie is productive, really. Can't it count as both? Either way, it's something that would remind you a little of Space Rangers and a little of Homeworld and a little of Incubation. It's a crazy mash-up of genres, and one that I'm happy to have in the catalog.

Ok, well it might be a sleeper hit to me, like Anachronox etc. Games i'd not heard of, but are good.
