Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete, the ultimate edition of Obsidian's RPG set in the all time favorite Dungeons & Dragons setting, the Forgotten Realms, is now available 25% off on GOG.com. That's $14.99, this week only.

Ah, Forgotten Realms, after all the days we've spent treading your paths, you seem like home. Whenever the world around us seems oppressive and dark, whenever life gets us down--our mind escapes to your green fields, your rocky mountains, your lush forests. We cherish the memories of our bold ventures into your deep undergrounds, filled with dangerous beasts and traps, yet luring us with promise of great riches and unsurpassed power. We still tremble at the thought of the vengeful gods and goddesses that toy with the fates of your inhabitants, and the perplexing magic that fills you to the brim. We fondly remember the long evenings spent in the warmth and security of your many taverns and inns, where a single conversation could usher us into a new quest. Now comes the time to visit you once more.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete revisits many of the iconic locations known from previous D&D computer RPGs, and adds even more--all in a beautifully rendered environment. The game has been praised for faithfully executing the D&D 3.5 ruleset, delivering a captivating story and vivid characters, and vastly improving the visuals in comparison to its predecessor. With four full campaigns and adventure sets to embark upon, a set of tools to create your own adventures, and fully patched and ready to go, this is the version you just can't afford to miss!

Can you hear it now? Can you hear the rattling of D20 dice rolling? That's the sound of adventure! Tag along, get Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete, for only $14.99 until Thursday, January 31, at 10:59AM GMT.

tinyE: How big are the partys in 2? A lot of people complained about the lack of party in NWN 1 and further more the lack of henchman control but to be honest I loved it. It was one less thing for me to worry about.
Usually 4-member parties. There's some variation based on what campaign you play, but the official ones all usually stick to that number.

Your character plus three (plus animal companions, familiars, summoned creatures, temporary characters and what have you). It can be a bit of a hassle if you aren't familiar with the nuances of D&D and/or don't like pausing the game to issue commands. I liked it a lot more than the henchman system of NWN 1, but then again I liked combat in Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate.

This is pretty darn tempting...
Is multiplayer done via some kind of dead or dying matchmaking service or direct connect?
A colleague of mine wanted a RPG that could be played co-op and this seems to fit the bill.

Thanks. I did like Balders Gate 1 and 2, a lot, but the fact is I'm a better loner so I've always prefered NWN1 and the Elder Scrolls series. If it goes on sale or I win something I may pick it up but before then I need to make sure I can run it which I've been at all morning with limited success. I keep getting, "It depends" :D

Sorry to babble and thanks so much for the answer!

If you keep the AI on, you'll have a party of 1 adult and too many excited little children to handle. Most of your time will be spent screaming "NO DON'T JUMP IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK OH GOD".

As far as I can remember, you have to have a full party at all times, so you can't just go solo because you feel like it. Of course, letting folks accompany you to new areas and then leaving them to stand around while your character goes get all the fun for themselves is an option, if not a very appealing one. Of course that would mean you didn't need to learn the rules of, say, spellcasting if your character was a Fighter or something, but let me just say that there are occasions where having everyone do something is important, possibly vital.

And when it comes to running the game, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine, hardware compatibility notwithstanding. It's true that the engine is poorly optimized, but the game even worked adequately on my old laptop (GeForce 8400M GS, 1.8Ghz AMD Athlon dual-core), and that was something like six years ago.

Turn on friendly fire and it gets a little more personal.

"WHYYYYYYYY!?"
"FFS, NO! DON'T WALL OF FIRE THE HEALER."

There were some mods that improved the combat AI a bit, but to be honest - you are going to have to do some micromanaging if you don't want your companions acting in a... less than optimal manner.
Tangent:
Ever play Freedom Fighters? Why can't other games do AI like that? Those guys are better at the game than most real players!

That's a game I really hope show up here in the not too far off future. I played just a tiny bit of it back in the day, but it was really fun. I guess it might be a bit tricky, with the franchise belonging to Square-Enix, while the game was published by EA. But at the same time, it shouldn't be anything the GOG team can't handle - they managed to sort the DnD stuff out, after all - and both SE and EA are already here, so...

With Tonky Ks AI mod? With the right settings for the AI you really don't have to its a really great mod.

I really liked Tony's, but you still had to turn it off when plowing through trash mob areas, otherwise you were out of spells every 4th or 5th fight. It may have been fixed later, but there was no way short of turning off AI to avoid that.

There is a setting for what spells they should use based on the enemy thread level. I think the only thing I had to take really care of was AOE spells.

grumblycakes: That's good news but full retail is $20? That seems off for an 7 year old game... it should be in the 10$ tier.
avatar
Ganni1987: Actually I find the price to be very reasonable, 7 year old game or not. Buying all these games separately in a retail box they'd cost you more than 20$.
The Platinum Edition retail box was only $20 when it was released a year ago. I would have expected a digital download version of the game one year later to be $15 at most.
You are really testing me aren't you GOG? I made a new years resolution not to buy any games for a little while then you come out with Avernum and NWN 2! At this rate I won't even be able to keep it for a month!

Sounds neat.. I was mostly just saying stuff. ^^
