All of your base are belong on the moon.

Moonbase Commander a unique and charming mix of strategy, puzzle, management, and arcade games set in the barren landscape of the Moon itself, is now available on GOG.com, for only $5.99.

Looking for a game with original gameplay idea? Look no further! Moonbase Commander delivers one of the most unique mechanics ever to be seen in a computer game. The objective of the game is to establish a working network of facilities and structures in the otherworldly planes of an inhabitable moon. Each and every node of your infrastructure needs to be launched upwards so that it lands in the correct position. This brings some similarities to a golf game into the picture. But that's not all the challenge you will find in the barren landscape. Other commanders try to establish their bases in the same territory. You'll need to include some defensive structures in your design and try to get your weapon systems as close to your enemies as possible and skillfully launch your attacks--just as in a game of [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/worms_united]Worms. Just remember that all of the nodes need to stay connected by power supply lines!

Moonbase Commander stands out with its unique gameplay. It's one of these games that take a minute get into but days and days to master. Masterfully programmed AI will provide a real challenge while you race for control over scarce resources and try to keep your quickly growing base fully operational. The game comes with an extremely easy to use map editor, so you can never run out of scenarios to play!

Carefully plan your moves, take aim, launch your modules, and extend your territory crushing your opponents and proving that you're the supreme Moonbase Commander, for only $5.99!

Zeewolf: The review makes it seem very interesting, while also explaining why I can't remember ever having heard about the game before. I am quite tempted to buy this now.

BTW, noticed the author of the review is Erik Wolpaw...
yes, I also did not know about this game before, but are going to get it because of the strengths of this review - can't argue with the man who wrote a large part of the story and dialogue for Psychonauts.
Looks interesting, wishlisted

TheEnigmaticT: Um. Wasn't that game played more or less entirely online? I'm not sure the servers are still up for a game that old...

"You grow with your challenges"

I'm expecting an offline DRM free MMORPG soon from you ;-P.

LordCinnamon: The only mmo I played, I played mostly as a sightseer. Just walking around and looking at stuff. So I'd actually quite like an mmo turned into an offline world to explore. It seems such a waste that worlds like that just disappear.

But I guess mmo archeology is a very specific niche :P
Myst: Uru is for sale here on GOG, and that's basically what it is.

Oh, and there's also an open-source MMO of it, it looks like it's still up at http://mystonline.com/en/play/

This is an awesome, AWESOME strategy game folks. Simple to play, but the AI is AMAZING, so it's quite a challenge.
Oh, GOG. Was releasing this little-known gem on the same day as the Carmageddon juggernaut really a good idea?

(I don't know... maybe it will get more eyes on it...??)

Moonbase Commander is awesome.

It's a beautifully-formed little puzzle/strategy game with an unusual (perhaps unique) central mechanic (which works superbly), nifty presentation with a great sense of humour, puzzle-solving challenges in single-player, and I'm reliably told that it makes an absolutely superb multi-player game.

It has a surprising number of tricks up its sleeve, and I thoroughly recommend it.

Do be aware of several disabled-by-default game options that affect the game camera, and also the Track Outgoing/Incoming Fire buttons at the top right of the screen. They can really help you to keep better tabs on what's happening. Check the manual for details.

Also take careful note of the wind indicator, because the manual manages to ignore it completely! The indicator is the triangle shape between the track-in and track-out buttons. If there's no wind, the indicator displays only a fuzzy dot.

I've just watched some bits and pieces from the campaign mode and the AI seems kinda random, if not stupid. Does it get more reasonable in skirmish?

Interesting game and great to see Humongous Entertainment is on/with GOG.

Do hope this means we'll see classics such as the Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam, Putt-Putt series.

grviper: Does it get more reasonable in skirmish?
I mainly remember the regular missions, so I'm not sure about the skirmish play.

I wouldn't call the AI amazing, to be honest, but you also have to balance that against the nature of the game, as it's not purely strategy. You not only have to plan your moves, but once you know what you want to try to do, you still need to execute that plan. Your own judgement and timing come into play constantly as you launch units around the map, so the AI is only one of the things that you have to worry about.

And then there are the medals. If you want a gold medal ranking for a level, you're suddenly playing less against the AI players, and more against the level itself, trying to manipulate what you've learned about it already in order to puzzle your way through in the fewest possible moves.

I can't promise the AI will wow you, but that doesn't stop the game from being a genuine delight (and probably a pretty unique experience).

I know, I've played it, and I loved it, exactly because of the haunting sense of loneliness and abandonment that it carried :)
Like chess, with more dependencies. Overall a great game. One of the reasons I originally came here. Today and the release of Syndicate may be my happiest GOG days.
This game definately needs a video on the game card - its great.

JMich: What, no comments about Humongous Entertainment?
I've received a little feedback that seems to suggest, because games like Pajama Sam and Putt-Putt are kid-based, that we won't be seeing them on here. *UltimateSadness* They are available from Nimbus Games (for iPad/iPhone, I believe), but they really ought to be re-released for PC in their original format, bundled with SCUMMVM.

Hope I'm wrong about my latter statement! :)

This is the first time I hear about this game. :/
Maybe the publisher didn't make enough advertisement but it looks like fun.
I'll try it.

Yeah, I don't think there was any marketing behind this game. IIRC correctly, both IGN and Gamespot called it the best game that no one's played in 2002.

I'll definitely have to check it out eventually. There's nothing I love better than a good TBS.
