Empire Rising

Moebius, a contemporary metaphysical adventure from the master storyteller Jane Jensen, the creator of Gabriel Knight and Grey Matter, is available for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com for $29.99.

When a secretive government agency enlists Malachi Rector to determine whether a murdered woman in Venice resembles any particular historical figure, he is left with nothing but questions. Why would the U.S. government hire him--a dealer of high-end antiques--to look into a foreign murder? Why does David Walker, a former Special Forces operative he meets in his travels, feel like someone Malachi’s known all his life? And how come everytime Malachi lets his guard down, someone tries to kill him?

Moebius is a contemporary adventure that merges classic point-and-click puzzle solving with Jane Jensen’s sophisticated storytelling. Travel the world using Malachi’s unique deductive powers to analyze suspects, make historical connections, and uncover the truth behind a theory of space and time the government will defend at any cost. This thrilling new adventure game from master storyteller Jane Jensen (Gabriel Knight, Gray Matter) and Phoenix Online Studios (Cognition, The Silver Lining) introduces Malachi Rector, an expert in antiquities whose photographic memory and eye for detail transform people and clues into interactive puzzles. The game comes with the original soundtrack both in high-quality MP3 and FLAC format.

If you miss the times when adventure games were played mostly for the great and immersive storytelling, not just for the puzzles, humor, and views, be sure to get Moebius for $29.99 on GOG.com.

tinyE: I'm right around Chesapeake Bay Bridge myself.
I'm originally from Portsmouth, so I know the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel quite well. Incidentally it made Cracked's 6 Insane Roads You Won't Believe People Actually Drive On list (at #2). Those of us from Tidewater are pretty sanguine about driving under water, since bridge-tunnels are rather common about the place.

Robbeasy: I'll just leave this here and run...

Review
Moebius appears to hold contempt for both men and women, which it exhibits in alternating sequences of patronising sexism.
At this point I knew - no matter how good the game would be, it would score low on RPS :)

IAmSinistar: So, this is the only release for today? Pre-orders now count as new games, it would seem. Still, at least we have a fun sale. :)
What about BlazBlue yesterday? : >

It's funny, because this is a game written by a celebrated female game designer, so in RPS logic this was a big moment for a game which was carrying their feminist banner.

lol

Actually I'm rather liking the cynical protagonist, favorite line so far: "White Roses. Traditional for both weddings and funerals. Appropriate since both are equally tragic."
Well, I do hope Gray Matter shows up soon so that 500+ vote entry is "completed".

I think you've just misspelled it. It's Ignition and it has almost 500 votes ;-)

tinyE: No, this would be the Cheapskate Bay Bridge.
Wow, that looks like a something from a post-apocalyptic future. Also the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is quite impressive and I didn't really know its history and how it was built until now, so knowledge gained.:)

Actually Gabriel Knight is a kind of dickish sexist too... so, Jane Jansen seems to like writing such characters. As long as he's well written, I don't mind him being an ass :) And RPS should stop mistaking character's statement for developer's worldview.
Anyway, Moebius is next in line, just waiting for me to finish Heretic Kingdoms.

That would be excellent also.

I'm a creature of habit, I suppose. Monday releases are of course welcome, but I've been Pavlovianly conditioned to expect a new game on Tuesdays and Thursdays. :)

Ah Smithfield, the Ham Capitol of the planet! Such a beautiful town, too. Howdy neighbour!

Novotnus: And RPS should stop mistaking character's statement for developer's worldview..
Exactly, that's the art of good storytelling, to come up with intruiging characters and to put yourself in their place and worldview - something those self-righteous pricks at RPS never seem to really grasp.
If they would have there way, most of world literature should be burned because there main characters don't comply with RPS's moral do-goodery bullshit.

zeffyr: First reviews go... Mediocre.
Those reviews don't look too good - but it's an adventure game so I think you can up them a little bit since most gaming sites seem to hate adventure games.

There's a big difference between portraying a character as flawed or unlikable, and forcing the player to be complicit in morally repugnant actions that are treated as justifiable and legitimate in the gameworld, and the complicity involved in games makes any actions the player takes more involved than simply reading about an act that a character performs in a work of literature or a film, etc.

But heck, at least it isn't as awful as Deponia!

Niggles: Kickstarter page says 10-20 hours

htown1980: Thanks!! That's a fairly wide range...

I assume Crosmando is furious about this game's length...
It took about 8 hours for me to go through it. Others have reported around 6, so 6-8 hours.
