Lurking in the forest, coming to get you.

Miasmata, a one-of-the-kind survival horror game that strands you on a mysterious island with a ferocious feline beast, is now available on GOG.com for only $13.49! That's 10% off, this week only!

Cats. You can't trust them. Even a cat person knows that they're always hiding something. It's not only that they will act offended if you find them peacefully sitting in the middle of a ruin that used to be your apartment and you blame them for this apparent natural disaster. This is nothing. At nights, when you're asleep the cat will sit at the footboard of your bed, staring at you, eyes glowing in the dark. Plotting. Screening the many scenarios of your death in his fuzzy feline head. If you happen to wake up at this moment, you will feel more than a little bit uneasy. All that can happen in the cozy safety of your own apartment. Now imagine a little change of setting--you're not at home, you're stranded on a mysterious island. Also, the cat isn't your average felis domesticus. It's still a cat, but it's the size of a pickup-truck. And it's got horns. And it's not even trying to hide the fact, that it wants you dead. Getting the chills now, are you? Well--welcome to Miasmata.

In Miasmata, an encounter with the giant cat-like monster is a probable cause of death for your character, but by no means the most common one. The game is very unforgiving when it comes to wilderness survival. Just like in the cult hard-core classic, Robinson's Requiem, you'll have to pay close attention to your nutrition, hydration, wounds, and potential illnesses, in order to just stay alive. As if this wasn't tough enough, another important task for you to complete on the island is to research its unique plants and fungi in order to synthesize a cure for the plague. Yes, didn't I mention you're suffering from a plague? Well, you do. By the end of the day you might just feel thankful, when the cat-creature creeps up to you in the darkness and puts you out of your misery. If you're a quitter, that is. Otherwise--prepare for a masterfully created survival horror challenge!

Do you think you know a thing or two about wilderness survival, self-medication, chemistry, and cats? Miasmata will prove you wrong, for only $13.49. You can grab it 10% off until Wednesday, December 5, at 14:59 GMT.
Just watched the trailer and...now I know where to go when I need to fall asleep :)
Sounds fascinating in theory. In practice, the trailer bored me. Oh well.

Wishbone: It looks awful :-/

grviper: Heh... you think, that looks awful? Look at the screenshots, don't they give an impression that they are taken in a Myst-style prerendered game on the mid 90's? Low resolution, simple 3D shapes, very monotone textures.
I think the game looks beautiful!

(At least from the trailer and screenshots).

SirPrimalform: Wow this looks excellent! I don't think I have the hardware to play it though.
Same here. Has anyone an idea, if it will run on "not so good" hardware... especially a graphic card with lower memory?
The game page of Legend of Grimrock also states that I need 512 MB graphic memory, but I was able to run it smoothly (with lowest settings) with my notebook card which has 256 MB...
This looks fantastic! I'll have to check this out for sure.

I wasn't referring to the graphics. They look fine to me. It's the movement that looks awful.
Sigh would totally take the plunge on this if I didn't just indulge myself in a $17 eBay listing...
Ah crap...another game i "need" to buy :)
Reminds me of slenderman meets Far cry...

mind it's really not easy to achieve "smooth" movement for trailer using mouse... it would be better to have a in-game video made but the devs probably didn't want to do that...
Cats? Is this the cat lady game discussed in another thread?

Either way, cats.
so, does anyone know:

a) can you finish the game somehow (I assume killing the cat / finding a cure / getting off the island)?
b) there are weapons in the game, but I guess you can't kill the cat that easy, right? you'd just stab it in the eye and enjoyed the rest of your stay on the island in relative peace... do does that mean there are other hostile creatures? or do you just carve statuettes with the knife and clean your fingernails?
c) someone mentioned it before, but how long does it take for you to die of this plague?

maybe answering these will cause spoilers, so if it does, just don't answer :D
Nice! Hope this doesn't mean we won't see a release tomorrow. ;-)

From a YouTube comment by the developer:

No worries, mouse and keyboard work exactly like you expect. It really the way its meant to be played. With the way we recorded footage for the trailer, using a mouse created a stuttering in the camera movement, so we went with a gamepad.

Of course, it doesn't! A nice new release is coming tomorrow. And it's moving bloody fast.
