Lurking in the forest, coming to get you.

Miasmata, a one-of-the-kind survival horror game that strands you on a mysterious island with a ferocious feline beast, is now available on GOG.com for only $13.49! That's 10% off, this week only!

Cats. You can't trust them. Even a cat person knows that they're always hiding something. It's not only that they will act offended if you find them peacefully sitting in the middle of a ruin that used to be your apartment and you blame them for this apparent natural disaster. This is nothing. At nights, when you're asleep the cat will sit at the footboard of your bed, staring at you, eyes glowing in the dark. Plotting. Screening the many scenarios of your death in his fuzzy feline head. If you happen to wake up at this moment, you will feel more than a little bit uneasy. All that can happen in the cozy safety of your own apartment. Now imagine a little change of setting--you're not at home, you're stranded on a mysterious island. Also, the cat isn't your average felis domesticus. It's still a cat, but it's the size of a pickup-truck. And it's got horns. And it's not even trying to hide the fact, that it wants you dead. Getting the chills now, are you? Well--welcome to Miasmata.

In Miasmata, an encounter with the giant cat-like monster is a probable cause of death for your character, but by no means the most common one. The game is very unforgiving when it comes to wilderness survival. Just like in the cult hard-core classic, Robinson's Requiem, you'll have to pay close attention to your nutrition, hydration, wounds, and potential illnesses, in order to just stay alive. As if this wasn't tough enough, another important task for you to complete on the island is to research its unique plants and fungi in order to synthesize a cure for the plague. Yes, didn't I mention you're suffering from a plague? Well, you do. By the end of the day you might just feel thankful, when the cat-creature creeps up to you in the darkness and puts you out of your misery. If you're a quitter, that is. Otherwise--prepare for a masterfully created survival horror challenge!

Do you think you know a thing or two about wilderness survival, self-medication, chemistry, and cats? Miasmata will prove you wrong, for only $13.49. You can grab it 10% off until Wednesday, December 5, at 14:59 GMT.

Boreas537: I have one question: Is there any way to turn the Monster off? I like the game. It makes a lot of fun to explore the Island, and collect Herbs, but i hate to get ripped into peaces of this Thing, just because i was climbing on Mountains for Map-Research-Reasons, and did not give any attention to the steps out of the Forest.

It would make a lot more Fun, if i don´t need to fear a reload, just because this stupid little cat dont want me to cartograph the Island.
I cannot help you directly, but maybe you should open a topic in the game's specific sub forum: http://www.gog.com/forum/miasmata#1354190640

Thank you for the hint. I found some request of another user, but no solution. If they get it managed to make the monster optional, i think i will play this game A LOT.

there has to be some challenge in the game, don't you think? :o) otherwise it'd be like Microsoft Flight on foot :D
Yeah, but i like this "Microsoft Flight on Foot" - Feeling. I just want to explore. And i do not think it would be a big challenge to make the Monster optional.
It´s like in IL2. It is fun to fly and shoot down enemy Planes, but i also like just flying arround.

I hope someone will find a solution for this Monster, so i can make my "Holiday" on this mysterious Island.

A holiday. Alone. While dying of plague. Even without a giant cat monster hunting you, it's not exactly Disneyland. ;) Free roam mode would be a cool unlock after completing the game, imo.

F1ach: Have any real players played it yet as opposed to the two 5* wanker reviews that havent even completed it?
your best bet for getting a feel of the game is probably looking at the gameplay footage wormholewizard posted above.

:D But the Kitty don´t kill me slow and painful. The Plague does. And the Cliffs which are hiding in the darkness. And the Goddamn Thirst. The Kitty Kills me with one Bite.

Thanks for the heads up, I missed that post, I checked the videos and they kinda took care of any curiosity I had about the game, thanks again :)
Here's a Eurogamer article that explains a little more about the gameplay:

I dont know dudes. The game looks extremely boring to me...
Least I'll be killed by something adorable :D
This game looks interesting...is it playable for cat people like me? No spoilers pls if possible.

Well according to the Eurogamer article, the Cat is unkillable, so if you were worried about having to kill cats, sounds like you won't be able to. Even though you might wish you could.

Unless you meant that you yourself are a cat-human hybrid. In which case I'd say it comes down to whether you have opposable thumbs.
