Medal of Honor: Allied Assault War Chest, the classic World War II first person perspective shooter with both extensions: Spearhead and Breakthrough, is now available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

There are some memorable moments in the history of computer games. Among them, the Allied forces' landing on the Omaha Beach, depicted in Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, remains one of the strongest and most realistic. As an American infantry veteran, Mike Powell, you land on the sandy shore of Normandy to witness a massacre among your fellow troops. The continuous fire of MG 42's cutting through people like hot knife through butter, making it impossible to capture the enemy bunkers. In that deadly chaos, with a Bangalore pipe-bomb clutched tightly in your hand, you make your way towards the far end of German fortifications. The lives of the many, and the success of the entire offensive, literally lies in your hands. That's only one of the many dramatic highlights of this game.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault War Chest takes you to the fronts of World War II and let's you take part in some of the allied forces most crucial operations. The game became famous for creating a believable and suggestive image of battle conditions with a real infantry soldier in the role of the game's hero. The War Chest edition includes the original campaign that will take you from German bases in Algiers, through the D-Day landing in Normandy, to the occupied France, and both Spearhead and Breakthrough expansions. With hundreds of carefully scripted events to intensify the action, realistic setting, historic missions, and excellent voice acting (including Gary Oldman as the protagonist of Spearhead), this game will take you on a cinematic, action-packed adventure of a lifetime!

Experience the World War II in its hours of horror and moments of glory in Medal of Honor: Allied Assault War Chest, the critically acclaimed FPS classic, for only $9.99! Do you have what it takes to make Ike proud, soldier?

jamyskis: I still have the German retail version, of course without swastikas and such like. Very tempted to buy this though to play it in English.

Just out of curiosity, how are GOG's legal eagles handling the issue of sales to Germany with regard to this and other WW2 games? I know the GOG version of Bloodrayne at the very least has a modified cross and most of the WW2 games I've played off GOG have iron crosses instead of swastikas.

MoH:AA has the full lot - Hitlergrüße, swastikas, SS symbols, the works. Technically speaking, GOG is breaking the law by allowing it's sale to German customers (not that I personally give a shit).
Very interesting point... I didn't really think about this before!? Maybe we should let sleeping dogs lie ;-)
Could someone sum up the differences between MoH and CoD (1, 2) ?

Screen from presumably censored version, for comparison:

So, if the screen on GOG's page is definitely from GOG's version, than it would appear to be uncensored? Don't take my word for it, I'm just guessing.
Heh, this is unexpected. Might check this out soon.

Possibly.

The problem is that games were never deemed to be art until now while films were, so while Indiana Jones and the Rocketeer could quite happily display swastikas and SS symbols (noting of course, that Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade the GAME had the swastikas excised from it).

I know the Kulturrat deemed games to be art a few years ago, but I'm not sure if that is enough to afford them constitutional protection. To be honest, WW2 games have been fairly thin on the ground of late.

I think these days, removing the symbols is more a case of being overcautious and publishers avoiding exposing themselves to a judiciary that is very hostile towards gaming as opposed to breaking any laws.

Honestly? Practically none.

i find it reassuring to see this game here because this means that the series of older EA games released on GOG is continuing. EA has one of the richest backlogs of any publisher and i hope to see many more gems from EA here.

as for this release, it's a piece of gaming history and should be in the collection of every gaming enthusiast. i already own the base game and Spearhead, which work fine on modern systems thanks to the splendid Quake engine, but i might eventually purchase the GOG edition as well in order to get myself a digital copy and Breakthrough (even though it's notably weaker than Allied Assault and Spearhead).

next up, Jane's simulations, please.

i'm not up to date on German federal law, but i'm fairly certain that games are still not legally conceived of as art. the Cultural Council declared games a "cultural asset" (Kulturgut), didn't it?

pretty much this. Medal of Honor was basically the prototype of the CoD series since it was the core of 2015 who went on to found IW and produce CoD. it feels and plays clunkier and more old-school than CoD. there are no iron sights, for example, and you're often on your own, which makes MoH feel closer to Quake 2 than CoD at times.

WOW, MoH game on gog. Wishlisted for now but for sure will buy once my wallet allows me to. This was one of first WW 2 shooters that was really good.
Well now...this is certainly a very pleasant surprise

EA still has a larger than life backlog with tons of games that have to be here

Hope to see more FPS and actions games here in the future

However...I'm a bit confused as to why the original MOH games weren't released first, are they going to come here at a later date or what?

It's worth to mention that this is the first EA game on GOG where EA is both developer and publisher.

keeveek: Why do you say multiplayer doesn't work?

I played MOHAA on dedicated servers three days ago. You know, that's the reason for having dedicated servers - they work despite EA's will.
Well, the precise wording is:

Multiplayer notice: The game's multiplayer servers are no longer supported by the publisher and the only option available is LAN (no CD-key required).

Which basically means that although it technically still works, EA won't be providing any keys for it and EA doesn't support it. Which means that if you have problems, GOG and EA will not help you.

Still, nothing that a keygen can't sort. That's not to say that the master server will be on forever more though. I do believe they pulled UT99's master server recently, meaning that you need the IP of your server to play online.

To be honest, I was surprised that nobody made fan remakes of the original and MoH Underground using the Allied Assault engine and assets.

it was developed by 2015...

as far as the PC is concerned, this IS the first MoH game.

Kick-ass. I shelled out for the Warchest Mac port way back in the day, and I loved it on my old dual-G4. Sadly, it doesn't seem to work in WINE right now (problems range from mouse control to crashing), but that just means that GOG won't be getting my $9.99 on this game...today. :)
