You can add Machinarium, indie gold nugget, to your very own ‘Best of’ collection for only $9.99 with 8 wallpapers, full soundtrack (which costs $5 extra elsewhere), 8 avatars, 22 artworks, 114 design sketches, available today on GOG.com.

You may have thought Czech are famous only for pilsner, dumplings, Eva Herzigová and Vampires roaming the streets of Prague. Now, thanks to a few brilliant people from Amanita Design, the Czech Republic is also known as the homeland of trippy point-and-clicks, giant robo-junkyards, and mechanical cities. In Machinarium, you find a small robot named Josef lying on a scrapheap, kicked out of the strange city of robots. You need to get back to the city to confront and defeat the Evil Black Cap Brotherhood that terrorized robot kind and took away Josef’s girlfriend. The goal of Machinarium is to solve a series of puzzles and brain teasers by clicking on objects that are within Josef’s reach. So, it’s a typical point-and-click, but in the same fashion as The Triplets Of Belleville is a typical animation.

Machinarium is hands down one of the most beautiful games for PCs ever. Of course it’s a matter of taste, but the colored pencil drawings, eerie music, and the clever conversations that involve no dialogues but rather pictographs all combine to create an ethereal atmosphere like in Le Voyage dans la lune or Metropolis. Extraordinary amount of work has been put to detailing the world to perfection, allowing you to discover all the small and big things that make the story of the little robot so artistically unique, brilliantly crafted, imaginatively realised, and fascinating to play. Machinarium is like reading your favorite book in a strange fantastic language you find yourself comprehending after the first few lines.

There is no game quite like Machinarium, and you should not be reading this right now. Instead you should be immersed in the imaginative and memorable robo-world for $9.99 only, available now on GOG.com.

keeveek: it's widely known that buying Grimrock on author's original site you get DRM free copy AND steam key.
avatar
ne_zavarj: Honestly . Fuck your Steam key and shut up .
You are getting on my nerves .
Finally, somebody stood.

keeveek: I don't really understand that indie policy. These games are avaible ANYWHERE, often also DRM-Free for lower prices than on GOG. Why should I buy them here?
Well, you don't have to buy them to begin with, but look, doesn't Trine remind you of The Lost Vikings? Don't Machinarium and The Whispered World belong to the currently dead genre of point and click adventures? And The Legend of Grimrock will be the modern Dungeon Master (or any of its clones). These games deserve to be here.

And where's the Dungeon Mastetr to begin with? :P

You've got Stonekeep and Lands of Lore for now ;)

Or The Lost Vikings for that matter. The last good game by Blizzard, dammit.

I enjoyed Starcraft, and had years of fun with World of Warcraft ^^

This is ridiculous. Back a few months ago the majority was completely in favor of GOG hosting new titles, including indie games. Now, suddenly GOG is at fault for doing just that? Have you forgotten that they ASKED US if this is what we wanted? And most of you said that yes, that is what you wanted. If you don't agree and are going to throw a hissy fit, you could at least blame the right people.

I think most of the people replied "yes, but not INSTEAD OF old games releases."

SimonG: Please, never, never, never ever install community based moderators or this "volunteer moderator" crap.
+1

And I'll buy Machinarium as soon as possible. Love the way GOG.com is contributing old and new game gems.

This is a bit too general I think. I highly doubt everyone was in favor of Gog having new games so it's not like it's surprising some people would be against it when it happened.

Also, it's not so much the introduction of the new games being the issue here but rather the worry that it will take away some of their focus on the old games and you have to admit their own reworking of their profile to GOG.Com instead of Good Old Gaming isn't exactly an inspiring start. Add on top of that a few releases in a row that don't fall among the classics and then a day where normally a classic would be released now being filled with an Indie and I can see why it would ruffle some feathers.

Just because people were favorable to new games coming here does not mean they have to agree or be happy with the way it's affecting the site.

Anyway, what EnigmaticT has done above is exactly what was needed. Some info on old games, whether and how much we can generally expect of that, so people aren't left to guess or speculate about that, which just leads to worries.

There are a lot more Bad Old Games than there Good Old Games. I'd rather see a Good New Game than a Bad Old one just to keep up a steady stream of releases.
Silly GOG, that's not Darwinia. :P

Look at the wishlist. Gazillions of great games that are not released here yet, but they could be (becase, the are on other sites, for example)

SLP2000: THIS.

keeveek: No. I don't know a single SANE person who hasn't got Machinarium DRM-Free already. There are HUNDREDS of Good old Games in GOG's reach. They just decided to release games everybody already own. It's a big failure for me.
sup.

We don't know why that is, but I'm sure it's not for lack of trying. We do know that GOG's staff is hardly lazy. For all we know those publishers have exclusivity agreements with those other sites, and, were that the case, GOG's hands would be tied. Or it might be that a publisher doesn't want to take its old library to a site that can't carry their new titles. If that's true then this slight format change could get us even more good old games.

Of course, this is all speculation - but I can't imagine that, with it being #1 on the wish list since day one - that someone hasn't called up EA and asked what's up with the rights for System Shock 2.
