Survival of the sweetest.

Long Live the Queen, a complex political thriller full of violence, hate, and tough choices, masked by deceptively cute visuals, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

Long Live the Queen is a brutal game. Your heroine will try to escape the many dangers awaiting a young heiress to the throne, and will often fail, ending up dead, leaving the kingdom at mercy of it's many enemies. Luckily, you'll be able to back up on your mistakes, probably just to witness another death of the princess. When you're but a child, suddenly burdened by the crushing weight of responsibility, every little decision you make might prove to be your last. This complex and challenging royalty sim will crush your hopes many times, before you manage to protect the princess until the day of her coronation. There are secret plots at play, invaders at the gates, dark magical forces hiding in plain sight, assassins lurking in the shadows, and way too many suitors trying to get their hands on the young heiress' heritage. With non-linear gameplay, and great depth this cute-looking title will take even the most experienced gamer by surprise!

If you thought that the life of a princess is full of bliss, ballroom dancing, cotton candy, and ponies, it's about time you faced the terrifying truth in Long Live the Queen, for only $9.99 on GOG.com.
Instabuy.

How could I promote more japanese games, pick Agarest pre-release on Steam and not buy Long Live the Queen??

Excellent move, GOG, and I was delighted to see so many people "upset" on this thread, means that you're really making things move ! ^_^

bansama: Ah a princess maker type game. Might be tempted by this for those times when I don't want to dig out the Super Famicom to play Princess Maker...

Now all we need here is Shira Oka. That game deserves more coverage.
Million times this!

G-Doc: The game is pretty much open-ended, and any approach you take might lead to victory, as long as you're really, really, really, really, really super-careful along the way ;-)

hunvagy: Soo, any chance you dark mages of GOG can convince Gainax to release Princess Maker 2 here? :p
Getting Princess Maker 2 might be too difficult.
Softegg did try to get it at 90's but it didn't end well "Softegg - Princess Maker 2 History in US"
Spirited Heart is probably the best alternative.
Or long way, learn japanese and import Princess Makers from Japan (I've done this). :)

This game is being out for some time now and me myself have been checking it out.

Its a text game for the most part and micromanaging your stats for survival and endings. Mostly take it like a Zork game but with hundreds of stats into consideration.

Yes, you will die and you will die. There will be "checks" along the way to see if the path you have chosen really is par with your stats.

This type of choose your own adventure type game is right up my ally. Theres youtube vids and reviews out there.

Hawk52: You know, if you're an up and coming Japanese developer, trying to do your own thing with limited funds and you get your game translated into another language, it's pretty damn sad that in western culture your game is immediately compared to porn just because of the art style, and some "racy" comments. Because god knows no western releases have that.

I expect better out of people on this forum.
Reminds me when a Japanese developer went to Indie Developer convention and and attend an event invloving Phil Fish. This guy is really want to expand his knowledge there but what Phil Fish did? he diss that one guy and the Japanese game industry so bad he left confused and embarrassed (his English comprehension isn't that good).

Seriously, a guy from outside US, willing to visit a place foreign to him and he was ganged up by assholes and probably bigoted developers who think they are "superior" just because they have "Indie" title in their badge. I thought people in GOG are better than them but it seems that some people here are still judgmental pricks who don't even bother trying the game before forming an opinion.

The game isn't Japanese, though.

zlep: Umm... both the banner ad and the "latest headlines" pic look just like one of those Japanese cartoons (Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, etc) aimed at eight year old girls. Do you also feel the need to delete your browser history after looking at a picture of a Disney princess?

I realize the game isn't aimed at that audience, but honestly, you couldn't tell that from the front page pictures. If anything it looks like a kids game. I get the feeling lots of people here haven't seen any recent cartoons, and have only viewed anime-style art in porn. :-(

HiPhish: Disney princesses are not drawn in miniskirts from an angle that looks like they have no underwear. I know this is not a porn game, there is no way GoG would be selling such, but it sure does look like it's made for "weird" people. If i walked into a store an bought a DVD of a Disney movie no one would care, but if I bought an anime DVD with a front cover like Long Live the Queen, I would get all sorts of creeped out stares. (of course I won't delete my browser history, I was ust being over the top, but the point still remains)

Whatever the decision was to choose this type of aesthetic, the person must have been aware that people, at least in Europe, will perceive upskirt shots of a 14 year old girl, who looks like she's ten, to be just wrong.
LOL. Just proves my point that you're not familiar with Japanese cartoons aimed at young girls. This is a pic of the cartoon version of Sailor Moon:

http://sailormoon.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Kate.moon/Sailor_Moon_@_Hot_Topic?file=Foto_sailor_moon_12.jpg

And I didn't even have to resort to the near-naked-with-sparkles transformation scenes. ^_^ This sort of stuff is very common in the "magical girl" genre (although it unquestionably brings in a secondary audience of pervy boys). And Sailor Moon was extremely popular in Europe - yes, as a cartoon aimed at young girls, not on video tapes sold under the counter.

EckoShy: Really people. Please. At least try to hide your obvious bias and misinformed ignorance.
While I agree that the alleged offensive stuff is not actually there in the presentation (and probably not in the game either), could we make an attempt to not condemn people for misconceptions they might have had? :)

As said earlier, I can see how one could get a wrong impression after being primed about sexual content here in the forum thread, and then looking at some screenshots without paying much attention to the rest of the description. That's how discussions sometimes go - I think the matter has been clarified by now. Perhaps one or the other of us even leaves the thread with one bit of prejudice less than before. :)
Seven pages in and we are not talking about the myriad of stats this game has you managing, paths and its different play styles?
Did anyone watched the trailer at all provided?

After reading this thread I had to watch the trailer and the pics provided again to make sure what the heck everybody is talking about, I don't see it anywhere.

I do see a simulation roguelike management a la visual novel style with possibly(I haven't played the game) some dating elements while being really humorous about its subject matter(collect all the ways to die!<- a new King's Quest game would need an achievement for each death lol!).

While not the greatest of games, Shira Oka was a good start for a fledgling studio. I am hoping that the development team continues to produce more games, because they have shown genuine potential. They deserve a second chance.

People are too busy judging it at face value, unfortunately, and even that isn't accurate.

I, for one, already bought it :)

They way I see it there are two problems here:

1. People too busy judging the game for it's style and the ambiquous content in 1 or 2 screenshots

2. People too busy judging the aforementioned or people who seem like the aforementioned.

I don't think it is even about the game, but animosity between the fans of this kind of visuals and the haters. Both see a lucrative battlefield to prop their ego's here.

Granted, I am probably the third type who comes here judging both and propping his ego all the same, so I'll now contemplate for a second if I want to post this.

...

Thinking only leads to an infinite loop of whether I am a smartass or not. I think it's both.
SPOILER

Ugh that Duke of Maree guy reminds me of a older Joffrey Baratheon, and I hated that f##kface for killing Ned.

Oh I saw the video. It's hilarious when she try to avoid people (to avoid possible assassination) by hiding but ended up with her killed by revolting peasants.

Also accidental death while experimenting with magic. Yeah, that will be rage inducing XD
