The anti-hero with a symbiotic blade returns with a vengeance.

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/legacy_of_kain_soul_reaver_2]Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2, fallen vampire’s personal vendetta turned into a video game, is available on GOG.com right now for $5.99.

Just two months ago GOG.com released Soul Reaver and you had a chance to meet Raziel, a vampire-turned-wraith reanimated in the Spectral Realm by The Elder God in order to kill Kain. Well, the fight is not over as Raziel needs to go back through time and continue his quest to destroy the almighty vampiric lord. Soul Reaver 2 picks up at the moment Soul Reaver left off--you’ve chased down Kain to kill him, he’s gone through some sort of time portal. And now it’s time to settle the score. However cliche the story might seem, Soul Reaver 2, even though it’s a combat-focused third-person action adventure, offers a brilliantly written and very intelligent gothic story. The characters, interactions, and tension between them are deep and provide very satisfying interludes between the bread and butter of the game, which is devouring Raziel’s enemies as he makes his way to a reckoning with his creator.

With a great story, beautiful graphics, and a lot of puzzle / platforming elements, Soul Reaver 2 is something more than your usual action-oriented romp. Drift away and kill some extra-dimensional demons in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 for just $5.99 on GOG.com.

CaveSoundMaster: While I agree with you about GOG doing as much as they can, I can't help but mention that SR1 sound is screwed on my system and I couldn't find no fix for that :P
Also have you attempted running in windows 98 compat and/or disabling any sound acceleration features your sound card may be running?

I have very minor crackling in the soul reaver audio but it was pretty low and was easy to forget it was doing it. In fact my fraps recordings of Soul Reaver can't even really hear them in those.

The whole CGI and Sound system that Crystal Dynamics used for the series, really doesn't like newer tech does it lol.

Blame CD and Eidos, really irritates me how a company just completely abandons the older games refusing to help keep them working. They are the ones most equipped to be able to keep the game updated with patches to run and work without issue yet so many times devs or publishers just do nothing. No respect or loyalty to those consumers that bought the product years before.

Here it's not only crackling but skipping, quite annoying.

Without Win98 compatibility the sound is cut to pieces with silence between them, and without acceleration there is no sound at all. So yes I tried, and on my best settings it's playable, but with crackling and skipping.

Yes, unfortunately Blizzard's tradition of patching a game 10 years after release isn't a norm in the industry. Then again, LOK isn't as popular as Starcraft or Diablo. Though it isn't unknown underdog either.

Haven't tried the patch though.

I'd also recommend putting in a ticket with Support. They may be able to help.

Well, there's really nothing about Blizzard that can become a norm so that kind of comparison is always pretty unfair towards other developers, especially developers of singleplayer games. :P

rammur: Kinda crap you gotta go find fixes for the game id expect it to be ready to go from GoG hell i can just go download the Emulator and Rom for free if i wanted to go through the hassle of of finding fixes only reason most of us buy from GoG is so that we dont have to go through the hassle.
As Sequiro already stated: we're talking about Blood Omen, not Soul Reaver. And I think we can safely assume that GOG's release of Blood Omen would include all necessary fixes to make it run on modern systems.

tarangwydion: For those who have played this game, I have a question: can one enjoy this game without playing or any familiarity whatsoever with the prequels first?
tarangwydion, you can enjoy the combat, but you will miss so much info! the story will not have the impact it should. You will miss out on the experience. Soulreaver1 is a must!

The rest are not that critical, but you will enjoy SR2 a thousand times more if you do play them.

Soulreaver 1 is absolutely a must!

It isn't, there is much more going on in BO than SR1 in relation to SR2. The whole ending of SR is SR2's intro, and almost everything is recapped in SR2. On the other hand, if one can start with SR then I see no reason not to. But as I previously stated I myself have began my adventure in the world of Nosgoth with SR2. "A thousand times more" is a definite overstatement.
hi - ok I have added both SR to my wish list, but I am better to wait till I can get bloodomen ? is this the general feeling please ?

it's not a "general feeling" (Says I, the biggest Advocate of Blood Omen)

it's not a general feeling simply because the series hit its commercial success stride with Soul Reaver, so most people will remember playing that and will recommend you to start with SR1.

That being said, BO1 is a real gem, with unparalleled atmosphere, and fun gameplay. And it is the launch point of the single greatest story in a game series ever. Although to be fair, SR2 does a pretty good job covering most of the key plot aspects you may have missed.

so, short answer is: no, you don't need to wait for BO1's release. Play SR 1, it is amazing, drink in the atmosphere and tone of the series. Then get SR2, and the best chapter in the best game series story ever written, but be aware that this comes at the expense of simplified gameplay.

then play the rest of the games as they are released.

Then join the ranks of those of us rabidly pleading with Squeenix to finish the damn story.

I would pay $60 for Blood Omen: Legacy or Kain +cinematics on the pc.

Is there any progress towards getting a full version of that released?

The rights to the first title do not have the same owner as the rest of the series, so... Probably not:(

EDIT: 60$ would be waaaay tooo much...

Here's to hoping we get the whole series eventually on GoG! I remember them all fondly, despite some gameplay issues here and there.

I think the original blood omen is well worth $60 based on the storyline and gameplay. It was a quality game that you can tell the developers put a lot of work into unlike a lot of the $60 titles you see today.

Considering I've bought the game 3 times now.... (PSOne, PC retail and PSN) I certainly want to pay 60 bucks for it now.
