They say the dead know no pain. Things are about to change!

Meet Raziel: a vampire-turned-wraith, who will show you how to have a soul-devouringly good time for just $5.99 on GOG.com

Soul Reaver is technically the second installment in Legacy of Kain series, but practically it’s a beginning of a new adventure. What is important is that the game brought the franchise into 3D and introduced a completely new character while maintaining the uniquely dark and seductive atmosphere. The player controls Raziel, once one of six powerful lieutenants of Kain who was later broken and killed by his former master. Reanimated in the Spectral Realm as a wraith by The Elder God, Raziel serves as the deity's "angel of death" and will not stop unless his five undead vampiric brothers--and Kain himself!--are destroyed.

The gameplay is flawless, fights are violent and gory, and the game requires you to shift in real-time between the material and spectral planes to solve puzzles and defeat monsters. Raziel, the series’ new anti-hero is a character who feels real despite his wraithlike nature. His striking visual appearance (a wrap hiding his jawless face, radiant pupilless eyes, tattered wings, and claws and feet), tragic nature, personality change throughout the game, and his blue symbiotic blade, made him one of the most recognizable characters in gaming history.

Once you get ahold of the Soul Reaver sword, you will never want to stop hacking and slashing, especially for just $5.99 on GOG.com.
One way to look at it is something similar to (but not as blatant as) Metal Gear 2 and Metal Gear Solid. Yes, MG2 came first and had the overall story, but you learned all you needed to learn in the first few minutes of MGS, and MGS took liberties by adding flavor to events.

For the most part, The later LoK don't need to add flavor to Blood Omen, but the overall plot of the series really starts in Soul Reaver.
GOG read my mind, I was just wishing 2 days ago for some LoK action on GOG, would have liked Blood Omen first, but I think it would be a bitch to get to work on modern systems.

JudasIscariot: Wow, this game looks a lot better on PC than the PSP/PSN version...
I suppose that's to be expected in this case

PC almost always has the best versions of games due to it's hardware

That generation though developers were really pushing the PS1 to it's limits...I still marvel at how good Ubisoft managed to make Rayman 2 look so good on PS1, if you take into account it's hardware and capabilities
This makes my day thanks gog i was recently thinking of this game but lost my cd copy of it. This for me has to be one of the most sophisticated games in terms of dialogue, plot and game design (especially the puzzles and progression) . Thanks once more :). In my subjective opinion this game is one of the unique and greatest ever to be born from the great guys at crystal dynamics.

DCT: Yes Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 2, and Defiance were all released on the PC. Generally about a few months after their console counter parts.
Nice! Hmmmm that would be a good collection to have later on if GOG gets them all. I wouldn't mind a better version of BO2 especially, the xbox version I have is very sloppy. The music and voice cut out for me all the time.

Dave_Scoffin: so glad to see this on here, really hope we get Blood Omen as its the only one of the series i havent done
I got it after playing everything else in the series. It's really its own game. It's worth playing for completion's sake I guess, but it was quite different in feel. Don't worry too much if you miss it.
Oh and almost forgot my hats off not only to team at crystal dyanmics, gog but especially Amy Hennig. She penned one of the greatest trilogy in gaming. thanks !
This wish needs to be marked as complete:

Does anyone know if gamepads/controllers are compatible since it would be the only reason for me to get it since I can't see myself using a mouse and keyboard for it to tell you the truth!
I'm actually playing the last one, LoK: Defiance, but will eventually get this one again on GOG.com. Very nice addition fellahs! Looking forward to Blood Omen making it's way here, and hopefully some Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver wallpapers!
Oh my! Oh My! O_O

This game was the one who got me into console games... and still own it for PlayStation, but I'll get for PC, because it sure will look much better. I didn't know it was made for PC, this is a surprise indeed :D

I love this series, I still own the secuels for PlayStation2, and they're shining like new in my collection in the library :D

Let's hope this is the beginning for the entire series to appear in GOG.com (including Blood Omen, which is the one I don't own and never got the chance to play).

I don't know myself, but I don't like to play with keyboard and mouse either. I prefer gamepads (the Xbox 360 controller), and when the game I'm playing for PC doesn't support it, I use a program called "Xpadder", which I recommend. It's a program that resides in the memory and with it, you can set any key or mouse action to any gamepad. Even more, I had set up my wireless controller to control my PC from a distance, just if I were using a mouse and some keys in front of it, to watch movies, lauch programs or browse the internet. And you can save any profile for fast loading for different games.

Right now, the game I'm playing is The Witcher, which it didn't support any controller at all, and I'm playing it perfectly with OTS style camera.

Good to see we're getting more Square Enix games.

Holy....

Anachronox and now Soul Reaver? This is going to be a good year. Hopefully I get paid this week.
In my opinion there's not much point in playing this while not knowing the first game in series (Blood Omen Legacy of Kain). There's so much going on in minds of Raziel and Kain, and you can only hope to understand it when you know the background from the first game. I would say that the first one has better story, but the second one is much more immersive and has amazing music and climate. Really awesome stuff.
Great job GOG! Bring the first Blood Omen here and it will be an instabuy from my part.

Indeed

I hope GOG continues releasing great titles, ESPECIALLY underrated/under appreciated cult classics

True, many of us got our start with Soul Reaver however. Now Blood Omen may have a better intial story than Soul Reaver, but after Soul Reaver 2 that can no longer be said. Soul Reaver 2 is the absolute climatic point of the series as far as storyline goes.
Defiance is good with some great stuff towards the end. But the scripting and pacing of Soul Reaver 2 sets the Legacy of Kain series storyline as one of the best, if not the best in gaming history.

I actually own the entire LoK series on PC except for SR2 physical copies. So while I would love to see the entire series up here I'm actually hoping for Soul Reaver 2 so I can actually complete my LOK PC collection. Since I no longer have consoles it's the only way I'll get to play them.

I'm so surprised they seemed to manage to get Soul Reaver running. I tried every patch, crack and fix known to man on my CD version of Soul Reaver and never could get it to run in XP or Windows 7
