Featuring the Fearsome Fangs of Fury!

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2, the action-adventure game following the exploits of the blood-hungry anti-hero Kain, is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Kain, the Vampire Overlord had it all. He had the gruesome glamour, the sinister swag, the mighty magical blade called the Soul Reaver, and an army of obedient minions ready to storm the fortified gates of the great city Meridian. The world of Nosgoth was his blood-filled oyster. But then the Serafan Order had to show up with their fancy glyph magic and it all just went to hell. Well, not literally, because when Nosgoth is your home hell seems like a holiday resort, but still--the power and glory days came to a sudden and unexpected end for our blood-sucking anti-hero. Now, after a 200-year slumber, he wakes up to a twisted world where his brethren are treated like scum. And to make things worse the power of the Soul Reaver is now in the treacherous hands of the Serafan Lord. Take it back and make make sure that the city of Meridian once again finds its respect for the vampire kind.

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2 is a third person perspective action game with many lavish locations to explore, legions of fearsome foes and bewildering bosses to slay, and a pile of puzzles to challenge your wits. The Games action-oriented 3D gameplay is more in the lines of the series' future installments, like Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, rather than its 2D predecessor.

Get your gruesome groove back and paint Meridian red in Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2, for only $5.99!

This is another reason this place needs an ignore function..

SpectralWanderer: Blood Omen 1's story is the entire foundation of this series (more literally so than usual - Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance literally revolve around it, and make significantly less sense when it isn't available). Quite a few people anticipate it and would like to give spend money on it. For them to ask where it is, why has it been saved until last and after this game (which is looked upon as the worst in the series), is there a problem preventing it from being sold, etc, seems reasonable to me. I regret that you instead brand it as the behavior of a bunch of entitled a**holes.
I understand all that but there's a difference to lay it out like that and go "this version suckss!! we want blood omen 1 now!!!".

It's like this: we all know that GOG has a mysterious distribution system that because of business/security reason they won't or dont wan't to reveal therefor there could be a hundred different issues why they choose to release games in different orders. I'm assuming a reason that goes behind some conspiracy or to annoy fans is the last one of them, if at all.

Yeh, I'm not really getting that from this thread. On the first page, Leroux and grinninglich, and whodares ask about the first game without commenting on the release; Paradoks calls it the weakest point in the franchise, and tburger says "nay" without other comment. Otherwise, it's "Thanks GOG," "Nice," "Yesssss," "Cool," "Great," "Not a mindlowing game ... but rather enjoyable" and "Insta-buy." From the second page onward, it's mostly talking about getting BO1 running, what the hold-up may be, and complaining about people complaining about BO2.

I don't have much tolerance for whining about video game releases either, but I'd call this thread pretty darn mild, especially compared to what some of those indie releases were generating.

Leroux: Next stop Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen? ;)
Yeah, exactly! I was just about to ask why GOG didn´t released the first game yet? Legal issues?

TheEnigmaticT: There are licensing problems with Blood Omen 1; we're working on resolving them as we can, but we figured that you guys would rather have Blood Omen 2 now and Blood Omen 1 (maybe) later, than no Blood Omen at all.

Well the difference here is that there probably are bigger issues with releasing Blood Omen 1 on PC, since it had multiple publishers, and a different lead developer to SR1/SR2/BO2/Defiance which has held a big vendetta against Crystal Dynamics since 1998. Nobody really knows who owns the rights to that particular game any more.

So it has less to do with moaning about GOG than moaning about the companies they're dealing with, and there was simply no comment on the subject until this thread, which I can imagine was frustrating. Personally I haven't added my voice to it on the forum, but if I had, the intent would have been to show demand for an answer to the question "does it seem likely you will ever be able to release BO1? please, please pass comment" not "wah, wah, hurry up".

Also, reading back through the thread again, I would not personally say the guys come across as assholes, either. Most comments were very politely-worded. You should have seen some of the fan feedback regarding BO2 when it first came out. This place looks like Teletubbyland in comparison.

JMich:
Just found it, thanks for clarification.

Off topic: you know, from behind, Kain looks a bit like Geralt of Rivia. Alas, Geralt is cooler :)

Looking back myself it seems you're right. I didn't see that thread exactly but I've been to a few ridiculous fanbase forums for specific games and it's like they live in the game, not reality. I can imagine what happened.

Hopefully they will resolve the legal issue in a few weeks or perhaps months and then we have the whole series.
Cool. I really hope so, yeah.

My guess for the reason why the first Blood Omen was not released before the other games is that it was made by a different company than the other four games.

Untrue. Kain is a vampire ergo he has no body temperature ergo Kain is cooler...

Yeah.

Roslavets: Many of us are acting like spoiled children: "Where's my BO1, I want my BO1!". It's like a child sulking over getting a Luke Skywalker toy when he wanted Darth Vader. Notice how TET had to respond to us like a father that we should be thankful we got a Star Wars toy at all.

What?

People are cheering for the release of this game and cheering towards GOG in their upcoming struggle. Nobody is complaining.

As does any such albino character look like Elric, only that he is the grandaddy of coolness.
I don't remember liking this much on the PS2, I think I'll pass. I still need to get the Soul Reaver games and Defiance anyway.
Good release.
