Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition takes you on a journey deep into the Spine of the World mountains, a harsh and unforgiving territory settled by only the hardiest folk. The Enhanced Edition fully restores the classic RPG gem giving it a new life with numerous tweaks, updates, and upgrades. You'll be able to explore quest content cut from the original game, now finished and restored, join your fellow adventurers in cooperative, cross-platform multiplayer games, take advantage of all new interface, including the new Quickloot bar, wield dozens of new spells and items, including new magic armor and weapons, and add characters of previously unseen player classes to your party. The Enhanced Edition includes both original expansions: Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster.

Under the ancient branches of Kuldahar's mighty sacred tree, in the the northern reaches of the Spine of the World mountains, a new adventure destined to inspire legends and myths is about to begin. SkeleTony: Did I miss something here? yYahoo said on page one of this thread that the 'Enhanced Editions' of BG and BG2 were at gog.com but they are not. Why did IWD: EE get here but not the BG 1/2: EEs?
I'm not sure where on the site you're looking, but they are definitely in GOG's library of games. You can buy them here.

geoconker: So, is this a game like Diablo 2 and Torchlight as some reviews say? I stopped playing both around halfway because I grew tired of the mechanics...this genre is not for me, sadly.
It's Baldur's Gate "lite" but it makes up for that because it is quite fun and short. So it's like going out on a relatively quick adventure, unlike Baldur's Gate saga. It's not like Diablo 2 really, which is more hack and slash. The story is fun and you get a whole bunch of quests you need to solve with you and your mates until you meet the Big Bad.

But if you like arcade types or first action shooters, then yeah, you won't like this one. This is an adventure storybook.

Hey all,

Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition is now available for Linux! :D

vulchor: Are Linux versions on their way for BGEE and BG2EE as well? One can only hope, because they are offered on Steam.
avatar
shmerl: They were beta versions until recently. Were they already released?
All I know is that the official game site lists Windows, Mac, and Linux available for purchase on Steam.

I don't really use Steam, and as far as I know Steam has done away with the word 'beta' it seams in favor of 'early access' that you have to pay for. Valve is becoming like Microsoft in regards to re-defining and replacing industry standard terms for their advantage.

Woo hoo!
Just noticed that the official IWD site still shows Steam as being the only place to buy the Linux edition. They better update that soon, or it will mislead people into buying from Steam and not GOG.

Thanks GOG, you're awesome!
The EEs I'd consider buying myself are Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale II since those are the only Infinity Engine titles to lack in technology and playability on modern systems as far as I'm concerned.

Baldur's Gate II and Icewind Dale are rather smooth looking out of the box thanks to the 3D acceleration and the interface in all these games has always been intuitive even if some tweaks are welcome. I'm not a fan of the zoom which seems to be the primary visual addition.

Icewind Dale II and Planescape Torment lack 3D acceleration and can be hard to run properly and smoothly on modern hardware without any issues, minor or not. It would be nice to play those enhanced with better gameplay (like the added kits here and what not they could enhance Torment's combat in particular, the pathfinding and other areas it always lacked in) and improved visuals like the smooth 3D accelerated fog and the ability to chose the frame rate as in BGII and IWD, etc. Similarly for Icewind Dale 2. The first Balgur's Gate could technically fit in this wishlist but with the fan patch that puts it in the BGII engine and the ability to play all the saga as one continuous game, it's not needed.

I also can't begin to imagine the amount of bugs something like Torment Enhanced Edition could end up with.

How awesome that music ever was and still is.

Edit: Though it seems I hear dragon age origins in there afterwards.

That's fast and really awesome!
I play all three EE's offline all the time. I'm glad that they're on GOG now, but what DRM are you guys talking about?

I suspect they're talking about the ones on Steam?

GOG.com: The Enhanced Edition includes both original expansions: Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster.
This should be written at the game's description in its purchasing page.
