V is for Valor, Vigor, VVizardry, and Virtuous Victory

Heroes of Might and Magic V Bundle, which includes both of the game’s expansions (Hammer of Fate and Tribes of the East), is a glorious return to classic fantasy turn-based strategy that every HoMM-fan will love and is now available on GOG.com--for a limited time!--buy one, get one free with Assassin’s Creed Director’s Cut for a total of $19.99.

This is one of the two new “Premium Edition” games that GOG.com is offering; they are a slightly higher price--but they come packed with value and we’re encouraging you to try them out with this buy one, get one free promotion that’s running until 12 April at 4.59 PM GMT.

Rumors of the fifth part of the famous series created by a new developer under the wings of a new publisher caused quite a stir among die-hard fans of Angles, Dragons, and Titans. Luckily, the developers made sure that the old concepts which made the series successful in the first place were maintained. Heroes of Might and Magic V returns to familiar territory; the charm of the classic game is omnipresent, the gameplay is addictive, and the execution is splendid.

We return to well-known world of HoMM in control of Haven, Inferno, Necropolis, Dungeon, Sylvan, Academy, Fortress, or Stronghold. The game features a completely new scenario, arguably the most interesting in the series, along with new spells, new units and new creatures skills. The towns now look majestic and grand in full 3D, the units move and attack beautifully, huge spells convey a sense of massively destructive power, and the combat is great fun to play and crafted to perfection; even tiny details like splashing water on the shore are apparent in the game. The music adapts to the situation perfectly, and sound is filled with the little touches that show the care the developers lavished on this game, touches like shouts of joy, screams of death, and the sadistic laughter of demons.

Heroes of Might and Magic V is surely the version you’ve been waiting for a long time, and it’s finally here on GOG.com with more than 170 minutes of soundtracks, an official artbook, wallpapers, avatars, design sketches, and more. Its full price is $19.99, but pick it up for a limited time together with Assassin’s Creed: Director’s Cut Edition on a special introductory buy one, get one free sale!
Ahhh, I'm kinda skeptical, I didn't even really know HoMM V existed until now, and it's not isometric, and it's not made by 3DO. Looks kinda generic, like when a good game series gets sold off when a company goes broke, only to be pulled apart (Hey it's what happened to Disciples, another TBS RPG after Strategy First stopped being the developer).
I'm not not sure, but Assassins Creed was just on DRM free promo on Amazon. This is a good thing.
I love GOG, but is this worth 19.99 USD? Yes or no. I know DRM Assinine's Cream was just on DRM free promo from Amazon for 4.99 USD. So... should I spring and get this?

$2.50 strictly speaking as it was 'Buy one get one free' with the games costing $5 each.

I'd say the two games together are worth $20. AC1 by itself probably not. If this had been AC2 for $20, I'd have said it was worth it without a doubt - that's how much better AC2 is compared to the original.

hmmm... How is the HoMM V bundle? That's the one I'm really interested in. Assassine's Crack is just a sweetner. I'm really more interested in HoMM 3. And DMoMM is one of my favorite games.

I'm glad to finally get HoMM V DRM free. I bought the collectors edition back when it came out but because of the DRM I was never able to play it. My computer at the time wasn't powerful enough and the new one I got later the DRM didn't play nice with Windows Vista. After that I never bought another Heroes or Ubisoft game until I found this site.

Thank you GOG for adding this game.

JamesBond007: Heroes 5 had issues (most notable freezing after few hours of gameplay), but only at the beginning. They has been solved after few patches. How many? Six I think. I have original discs (basic game, HoF and TotE). Unfortunately, unlike my copy, GOG version does not have Polish language.
Which version of HOMM 5 is this? 1.06? or a custom? thanks

ktchong: What is shocking here is UBISOFT agrees to let GOG sell those relatively new titles without DRM!
Yeah, quite shocking for me too. Listen to the Wind of Change:

As a good and old (4 years old) customer of GOG, I must say that I am very disappointed.

It's not about the release, it's about the PRICE. HOMM5 (as well as AC) for $20 in 2012 is far too expensive.

I grabbed this game (+ the 2 expansion packs) on Steam, for $5, THREE YEARS AGO.

On the beginning GOG.com was unbeatable regarding the DRM free policy AND the price. Now it seems that you guys at GOG don't care any much about the price. I had to say that this is VERY sad, but apart from the interest of more recent releases (as far as I'm concerned, this is a good thing), the pricing of those games is becoming a HUGE JOKE. And a DRM-free game and bonus content don't make it more reasonable.

Was it regular price?

1.0.0.19 at least the installer say so.
There is no bundle with only Heroes V and the addons.
But there is a Bundle with Heroes V , the addons and DMoM&M.
Its 25 in Germany, but here everything is more expensive, so in UK or USA it shoult be no more than 20$ even with DMoM&M.

So, yes, 20$ is a bit to much.
The only real thing to buy it is the missing of any DRM.

1.6 (HoMM V) / 2.1 (HoF) / 3.1 (TotE)
Just started playing at it has a certain charm and i think it plays better than the 6th outing. I could not get into number 4 but loved 1 - 3..

What put me off before was i thought was not windows 7 compatable so never bought it on steam but glad to see it here now.

No, but this game has been on sale about 10 times during the last 3 years. So it's hard not to have noticed it, especially for a GOG.com customer who is, by definition, someone who knows where to find the good deals. Not to mention Ubisoft released about one year ago a retail HOMM complete collection (all HOMM + expansions) for only $10. And as for AC it can be found on Steam for $10 on regular price.

Honestly this isn't a good deal, even by considering the sale. DRM-free and bonus material don't justify everything.
