Release of the Beast.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition (also known as: Kult: Heretic Kingdoms), a sleek isometric fantasy action RPG with many interesting gameplay ideas, set in a vast gritty world deprived of hope, but filled with monsters and dangers, is available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

At the first glance, the sword seemed like nothing special. Yes, the craftsmanship was excellent, and you could see that its creator went to great lengths to make the weapon look as ominous as a piece of steel can get, but there were many similar blades across the land. If anything, this one looked a little bit rusty and battered up. It was only as she reached for the hilt, when a slight vibration could be noticed. Like an electric charge hitting her hand. For a moment, the blade seemed to be gleaming--barely noticeable inner shine. What she thought to be flakes of rust shined in crimson red, like fresh blood embedded into the metal itself. But then, nothing special happened. She just stood there, holding the sword, looking at it in silence. Nobody else would even notice, but she knew. In her hand, rested the blade that tasted the blood of god. The Godslayer.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition is a classic action-rpg that has the ambition of delivering some original ideas an making your experience unique. It makes sure that upon completion, you won't just feel like you've completed another generic hack-and-slash. It succeeds by the means of excellent storytelling, dynamic gameplay, and some original RPG mechanics. If you are a fan of the genre, but somehow you managed to overlook this title in the past, you're up for one satisfying experience! The GOG.com edition of the game comes with a full MP3 soundtrack.

Adventure awaits, so go on--discover the land that needs hope and decide if it deserves it in Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition, for only $5.99 on GOG.com!

NOTICE:
GOG.com team would like to thank our users: IAmSinistar for finding the rights holder for Heretic Kingdoms and tfishell for passing on the information to us. Without your help, we wouldn't have the game today so thanks again for your assistance in making this release possible. This is why GOG.com community rocks, guys!

Merchito: What the heck do you mean, by answering with this link? :P I must be stupid... can't see the relation.

JudasIscariot: Rule of Cool means "it's like this because it sounds cool!" :P
So is this considered the Enigmatic hint? It seems so different than what was hinted at.

And kudos to IAmSinister and tfishell :)

Nice the game rights research is bringing in results - here's to more games being (re)released :-)

revanbh: More about the game type really. Is it combat non-stop or is there some chance for role playing? It has an interesting story premise. Shame if they've only used it as an excuse to kill things. I can live without RTwP or turned based combat but if the game is all about hacking and slashing, it loses some of its luster.

I too would like to know more about this aspect, Schnuff's post makes it sound all bad, but is it really that one-sided?

2) Try the demo http://www.gamershell.com/download_7167.shtml (gamershell is normally safe to download from)
Thanks for the link.
Nice to see this one show up here.
Not the best isometric action-RPG around, but still really enjoyable.
Soundtrack inclusion is always welcome as well.
Who else saw the word Heretic and thought "GOG's got Ravensoft games!"?
I too would like to extend my thanks out to IAmSinistar, tfishell and Games Farm. Situations like this make me think of so many companies that talk about them and their members as a family, and it feels hollow like a marketing gimmick. Today, with IAmSinistar and tfishell, talking about the GOG family actually has some bite. I'm glad to be a part of this community.
this was bundled years ago on a DVD attached to a gaming magazine here... even though I didn't know the game back then, I tried it and it was really great!

so go ahead and buy it, it's a very nice approach to the classical "Diablo" genre
Thanks to IAmSinistar and tfishell. I hope you at least get the game for free for your work. ;)

Looks very interesting, I will check it out in the future.
I wonder why there are missing so many games from publishers who already have lots of games on gog. Like iEntertainment Network or Monolith Productions

Few possible reasons:

1) GoG doesn't just release and distribute it patches for compatibility. This of course takes time and with a smaller team GOG might simply not have the resources to get all those games onto their service in a quick fashion - especailly as some titles might require more work than others

2) Copyright can be a complex thing and games are often sold as complete units not as the original source code (esp when old). As a result whilst you might have part of the copyright, key content in th game might be under other licences and since it can't be easily removed GOG has to work on getting all the licence holders to the table.
For this reason we've already seen some racing games vanish since the licence for the cars expires - its also why many movie-game tie ins don't appear much in the old game market because, again, the contracts are only short term and the licence expires.
Hey, I remember this game!

Also, the cover art reminds me a lot of heavy metal band Hysterica's debut album http://www.metal-archives.com/images/2/2/8/3/228335.jpg

I understand this, but I've played some of those games on modern systems and they are fine. And none of them have other licenses tied to them. Like War Inc., Rage of Mages etc.

Sometimes it can be other content - things like music or even art assets. In the end there could be any number of reasons including the rights holders simply not wanting them on sale - or being unable to agree a sale price on GOG.
Thanks to IAmSinistar and tfishell for researching this. I have a near mint boxed copy and will gladly re-buy it on here.

*Raises hand*

Looks interesting. Wish listed.
Not my cup of tea but thumbs up for both: IAmSinistar and tfishell for helping up gog to get this one on board.
