Release of the Beast.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition (also known as: Kult: Heretic Kingdoms), a sleek isometric fantasy action RPG with many interesting gameplay ideas, set in a vast gritty world deprived of hope, but filled with monsters and dangers, is available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

At the first glance, the sword seemed like nothing special. Yes, the craftsmanship was excellent, and you could see that its creator went to great lengths to make the weapon look as ominous as a piece of steel can get, but there were many similar blades across the land. If anything, this one looked a little bit rusty and battered up. It was only as she reached for the hilt, when a slight vibration could be noticed. Like an electric charge hitting her hand. For a moment, the blade seemed to be gleaming--barely noticeable inner shine. What she thought to be flakes of rust shined in crimson red, like fresh blood embedded into the metal itself. But then, nothing special happened. She just stood there, holding the sword, looking at it in silence. Nobody else would even notice, but she knew. In her hand, rested the blade that tasted the blood of god. The Godslayer.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition is a classic action-rpg that has the ambition of delivering some original ideas an making your experience unique. It makes sure that upon completion, you won't just feel like you've completed another generic hack-and-slash. It succeeds by the means of excellent storytelling, dynamic gameplay, and some original RPG mechanics. If you are a fan of the genre, but somehow you managed to overlook this title in the past, you're up for one satisfying experience! The GOG.com edition of the game comes with a full MP3 soundtrack.

Adventure awaits, so go on--discover the land that needs hope and decide if it deserves it in Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition, for only $5.99 on GOG.com!

NOTICE:
GOG.com team would like to thank our users: IAmSinistar for finding the rights holder for Heretic Kingdoms and tfishell for passing on the information to us. Without your help, we wouldn't have the game today so thanks again for your assistance in making this release possible. This is why GOG.com community rocks, guys!

revanbh: I've been scouring the internet for this one for quiet some time now. Never expected to see it here. Wishlisted it and will pick it up in a couple of days.

I have a question about the game. Is this more like Diablo or Infinity Engine titles? I'd prefer the latter.

JudasIscariot: Are you talking about real time with pause combat?

Because Heretic Kingdoms has more Diablo-style action RPG combat :)
More about the game type really. Is it combat non-stop or is there some chance for role playing? It has an interesting story premise. Shame if they've only used it as an excuse to kill things. I can live without RTwP or turned based combat but if the game is all about hacking and slashing, it loses some of its luster.

I will pick it up, regardless. It's $6 not $60. :)
Thanks for bringing us back all these titles which were effectively abandonware.

Neat. I'm certain that I've seen the cover art somewhere and probably also some screenshots but still, I totally forgot such a game existed. Seems like an awesome release to me.

tfishell: Had to actually check my email to see how I helped out. ;)

Definitely glad our game rights research has paid off. Hopefully there's much more going on behind the scenes. :) (And hopefully this isn't the only game whose rights' situation that isn't muddled.)

Squeenix-published game - should be able to come here!
Props to you, IAmSinistar, and the goglodytes that work on these searches for rights.
Why is the game officially called Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquistion here? Wasnt the original title Kult: Heretic Kingdoms?
Never played this before. How's the game like? Diablo style action RPG with a good story? Story in the vein of Inquisitor or something like that?

This game looks awesome! Thank you IAmSinistar and tfishell for helping GOG getting this release =)
The cover would've turned me away in a store, but the description sounds quite interesting.
But that Chris Bateman bullet point worries me. First I was confused by the mention of Ghost Master which isn't really an example of outstanding writing or game design, but then I checked his credentials and they're pretty much all awful games so mentioning Ghost Master made sense.
I'm curious about the game, but it's not instabuy and IMO Bateman isn't a selling point.

Looks like a good title however I have to admit that I'm a bit dissapointed with GOG's releases this week

1 Classic title

2 indies

That's it? Pretty weak if you ask me, you better do better next week, GOG
Great! Been trying to get this to work on Win7 a couple of times without success.

Great to see this title here - I recall playing around on the demo years ago.

And great to see GOG users helping out with finding rights holders!! It's always the big difference with GOG - other services have people come to them - GOG heads out to find them :)

However I have to complain quite seriously now as GOG has really dropped the ball here.

The "What's cool about it:" Makes no mention of narration by Tom Baker!! How can you leave that part out!!?!???
