A dreamy platformer with a world-shifting, identity-changing twist.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, a beautiful platformer that delivers a blast from the past while remaining modern, juicy, and delightfully fresh, is now available on GOG.com for only $13.49! That's 10% off the regular price until Tuesday, October 30.

They say that there's only one way to understand a teenage girl: you have to be one. In case of Giana this can prove to be even more difficult, as there's much more to her than meets the eye. But the same thing can be said about almost every single thing or being inhabiting the dream realm in which the girl is trapped. Have you ever been trapped inside a dream, wanting to wake up? A dream in which every time you thought you broke free you just fell deeper into the recurring delusion? That's what happened to our heroine. But luckily, her predicament allowed her to unleash an alternate, feisty persona and harness the ability to flip from nightmare to a dream and back, just like flipping a coin. That's more than a fair fighting chance against the twisted odds.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams takes all you love about classic platformers: jumping platforms, stomping on enemies' heads, solving simple puzzles, collecting shiny tokens, and searching for secrets--and puts it in a unique double-vision environment. While the blonde "cute" Giana travels through the dark land of nightmares, her redhead "punky" alter-ego blasts through a much lighter and cheerful dream realm. The player is given the ability to dynamically switch between the two worlds and characters at will, using both personas' unique skills and taking advantage of each world's slightly different layout. It's like playing two games at once (which in most cases doesn't make much sense apart from being a nice party trick; but here, it makes for a challenging and original gameplay).

Make yourself a nice pot of strong coffee, cause you're not getting any sleep tonight, while you run and jump through the fantastic realms of a teenage girl's fancy in Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, for only $13.49.

I disagree, because simplistic, unchallenging level design is a very relevant criterion. He also says that the new game is lacking the charm and excitement of the original. These are purely subjective things, yeah, and chances are I won't agree with him. But fact is, it is his valid opinion.

Compare that, by the way, with the review above it by oysteinreiersen, which waxes lyrical about how the 80s were great, how the original Giana Sisters was great, and says absolutely fuck all about the game itself. That review has been rated as "helpful" by 12 of 14 users. Says it all really.

Seriously, the rating system needs to go.

lowyhong: I've never played the C64 version so I can't make that analysis on a comparative level.
Played the original Mario Brothers? Then you have played the original Giana Sisters ;-).

SCPM: Hotline Miami is also being released today.
Oh well...

I know you're joking but... come on! Gianas were so much more hardcore. The music alone made a huge difference :-)

At the risk of digressing, I'll separate my post into a few parts, for better clarity. A few things here:

a) I respect his opinion. Doesn't mean I can't downvote it, which in my case is not just a show of disagreement, but also a sign that his opinions should be taken with a grain of salt, because other users like myself think differently.

b) See, you interpreted his comment as "simplistic, unchallenging level design". I, on the other hand, can tell you that I died a grand total of 47 times on the first boss. I also didn't manage to find all the gems on all the stages after 1-1. Levels got bigger and more complicated. Should I upvote the guy, even though his review strongly suggests he hasn't played the game?

c) I didn't think oysteinreiersen's review was helpful either.

d) I'm not challenging the that 2/5 guy's review so much as pointing out the silliness of your generalization, that everyone who downvoted the guy's review must lead some sort of banal life. The other 5/5 review is an entirely different matter, and I agree with your point. See? This voting thing isn't as mutually exclusive as you think they are ;)

e) this game is fucking great. Seriously. I don't know if it gets better, but so far the first chapter was a blast to play.

jamyskis: Looks like they aren't selling on the site directly, so I'll get it here. I see the downvoting fanboys are out in full force on the reviews page by the way. Some people must lead such sad lives that they feel the need to downvote reviews that they simply don't agree with... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Future isn't so bright Oh what have they done? Gone is the charm and excitement of the C64 original and Nintendo basher,we now have a version that has HD and predictable console level design,XBOX and Playstation owners will just love this, the only thing this has going for it is the great soundtrack although not everyone will approve of it and i only approve because they are fellow C64 remixers like myself, rather disappointed !!! Was this helpful?(0 of 31 people found this helpful) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------
In fairness, it is one of the least helpful reviews in the history of reviews. Lowyhong is right, the only helpful information you get is that in the reviewer's opinion, the level design is predictable.

People have said the review is unhelpful. They are correct! :)
Glad that this is out and will pick it up one day. Damn I even played and completed the DS remake few years back.
Question. Does the gog one only come with two sample tracks off the ost ?
Are the system requirements accurate?

Puddle has the exact same, so I think there is some minor fsck up here.

Yep

No. My PC is far from being even mid-range, but even so, it exceeds the requirements on the game page. With AMD X2 4200+, 2GB RAM, Geforce GTS250, the game can crawl like a snail on some of the bigger levels.

Well, they should fix that asap. It's clear misinformation...
