You'll have a hoot!

Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord, a standalone expansion to the fantastic colorful platformer that constantly shifts between two imaginative worlds, is available 10% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.49 for the first week.

One of them is a perky blonde, always cheerful and smiling. Looking at her you would imagine that she makes her grandma proud. The other one is a feisty redhead with an attitude and punky style. This one is the kind of girl your grandma warned you about. This good girl/bad girl duo call themselves the Giana Sisters. But here's the kicker. They are actually the same person. Imagine that. If this isn't the most prominent illustration of the dissociative identity disorder in video games, than I don't know what is. Giana's split personality makes her experience two very different worlds, each with its very distinctive mood. Even the music she hears in her head changes on a whim. Life must be difficult for a platform game character with that sort of condition. Would you kindly help Giana along her way through her twisted dreams before the Evil Owlverlord takes over?

Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord brings a total of seven new extensive action-packed levels to the colorful Giana Sisters universe. Each of the main heroine's two personalities plays a little bit different and travels through its own dream. Master the original reality-shifting mechanics to overcome obstacles that wouldn't budge any other way. If you enjoy solid platforming gameplay with some imaginative twists allowing for unique puzzles and imaginative level design, make sure not to miss this gem of a standalone expansion. It's more than worth its tiny price tag.

Blast through the dreamworld and nightmareworld to take on your arch-nemesis in Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord, for only $4.49 on GOG.com. The 10% launch discount offer lasts until Tuesday, October 8, at 9:59AM GMT.

PaterAlf: I don't agree. I'm angry as well, but the more people buy the DRM-free version, the more Black Forest Games will be forced to give that version the same support that they give the Steam version.
avatar
coldalarm: I disagree. It's been over two months. They said it would take them a month to *create a GOG patch* (let alone one for *their Kickstarter backers*). They are incompetent, if nothing else. It does not take a month to create a version of a patch for GOG. If it does, you are doing something seriously, seriously wrong, or you are lying about your intention to create the patch.

This expandalone should not be on GOG. GOG talk about being about the gamers, about treating us right (hence the extras, the DRM-free rule, etc.), and yet they allow this on despite being fully aware that the devs have not given GOG users anywhere near the same level of support.
The alternative is to ignore it - thereby forcing everyone who wants it to buy it from Steam?

tarasis: I won't be picking it up, but thats more because I got a Steam key for backing the sadly cancelled Kickstarter Project Ravensdale.
For that reason I'd probably get it here, as Yes I have the Steam key from that as well. I feel I should return the favor to a small developer, and I like DRM free.

That said I see some worrying comments about their inability to release patches.

Given the laziness of the company to produce a patch for GOG one might also decide to just ignore them and buy another plattformer from here instead as an alternative. There are approximately thousands to choose from.

Of course I agree if it must be the new Giana Sisters then better to have it here also.

interesting that this is a stand alone expansion. still, a little sad there is no "real" release today...

Yeah, pretty lame if that's all we are getting today. We have had a whole bunch of awesome releases lately, so I really can't complain.

If you buy it on Steam, you're fine. Steam gets patches, discount deals, etc. GOG got 10% off ($0.50), came out a few days later, etc.

Agreed. I am just looking forward to Entomorph (not that I need anymore games right now anyway).

All I feel now is disgust. When I saw that this news I thought that it would be released with a long overdue patch for the main version of the game. That would be acceptable. But right now? I can understand a lot of things. That they might be very busy and perhaps Giana didn't sell that well on GOG so they couldn't find enough time to deliver this patch. Yeah, I could understand it. But apparently they did find enough time to release this expansion. I'm trying hard not to judge them but right now the only massage I can see here is: "We only care about your money. Buy, BUY, BUY!" It's a shame... Please prove me wrong and release this patch ASAP.

On the other hand I must admit that I had a blast playing Giana Sisters. One of the best platformers I've ever played. I can wholeheartedly recommend it. I've finish he game but I would like to have a possibility to play the easiest mode - sometimes I like to play platformers for a few minutes just as a short break. In the current state Giana is too hardcore for that.

Hi guys,

I just wanted to address some of the concerns raised over the patches for the original Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams game.

Other than adding an "Easy" difficulty, version 1.1.1 doesn't add any new content to the game. In short, there is no content difference between the Steam and GOG versions.

Unfortunately, there were quite a few issues with version 1.1.1 that aren't present in our version (1.02) . However, if you find any bugs in our current build that are supposedly fixed in 1.1.1, please let us know :)

Lastly, I wanted to let you all know that Black Forest has assured us that we will have an improved and final version of Giana Sisters 1.1.1 some time this month. The new version will be 1.1.2

Feel free to ask any questions :)
Great to see the Content from the unreached Stretched Goals now here on GOG.com!

Instabuy!

My less than subtle hording nature means I'll redeem my Steam code and buy it again here anyway. Not like I can give the key away (that might encourage someone to use steam over GOG :)

It just migth be them being too busy.
Stuff takes time.

Has anyone emailed them a formal civilized email asking when its out?
By formal i mean not critizizing, demanding etc.

Of course if they deliberatly hold it back theres no excuse but two months is nothing especially if you consider its a small team but then again it does raise some question why they were able to have time to this game and not the patch.
Annyway if enough fans are sending them a formal letter/e-mail they migth react faster.

Edit :
I didnt see the blue text
nvm me and carry on.

Ok bought a copy, terrible I'm giving money to evil Indie developers with nothing better to do than deliberately tease gamers with slow release patches ;P

With all the games in my backlog I think I'll survive the wait. Will be a longer wait for this one I just noticed the game page shows Vista, 7 and 8 but no XP. Guess I'll play once I update the PC next year.
