Burning Trees, Driving Cars, Exploring a Dense African Jungle, While Holding an RPG-7.

Far Cry® 2: Fortune's Edition an open-world first-person shooter in a sprawling African landscape, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

Far Cry 2 may seem like a regular FPS in an open world, very realistic and graphic, but it’s more than just a sequel to the original. Far Cry 2 takes game realism to another level: you’re always looking from first-person view, the HUD is almost non-present, the environment is fully destructible, you need to pick up an in-game object when you want to see a map or use a GPS system and take wind, rain, day and night (this affects enemy’s AI!) into consideration when planning your moves and attacks. The African setting of Far Cry 2 is rich and detailed. Each of the twenty square kilometers of beautiful wilderness--ranging from scorching deserts to thick jungles--hides weapons, objects, and missions. The level of freedom and immersion is unmatched, and the experience of constructing your own story while you take down the sadistic but intelligent arms-dealer known only as “The Jackal” is rewarding and spectacular.

Far Cry 2 isn’t a short game, either. It’s a long open-world extravaganze which takes from 40 to 70 hours to to beat. And after all this time, when you recover from malaria and bullet wounds, you can create new multiplayer worlds for up to 16 players, making full use of vehicles, weapons, and weather systems in four different game modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond and Uprising. Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition contains the full Far Cry 2 game, including all previously released patches and the Far Cry 2 Fortunes DLC with additional content like new weapons and vehicles.

Get trapped in a fantastic story and brilliant setting for only $9.99, DRM-free and equipped with goodies, only on GOG.com.

cogadh: Does the Ubisoft stuff ever go on sale?

yyahoo: There have been a few "selected title" sales from UBI (including the M&M games just a short while ago). Also, all UBI titles were on sale 1/2 off during the Christmas sale.
Yeah, basically everything goes on sale eventually. Just a matter of how long you are willing to wait.

Far Cry 2 was fun, but not something I absolutely need. If I somehow manage to get into the mood before the sale, I'll grab it at full price. Otherwise, I put a replay/completion of this on the to-do list.

Fred_DM: own this on DVD. glad to see it priced at $10 instead of $20.

might pick this up as a backup digital copy when it's on sale.
I like your thinking - *makes mental note to buy later*.
Fantastic game and now I can finally have my DRM-free copy . 8)
Thanks Ubi and GOG. :)
As others have pointed out, the fast re-spawning enemies are a real pain and make it a flawed game.. but it's still very good fun and the graphics look amazing on a good PC.

I loved the first Far Cry, so when this went on sale on Steam a while back I picked it up.

I must say that I was not that impressed by it. Probably my biggest issue was the whole dying of Malaria - need to find pills in time thing. I hate timed missions in games, and to me the Malaria thing made this whole game feel like a timed mission.

Now I see that some people are saying that there are mods to help change a lot of the game. Is there a mod that takes away the malaria thing? If so, is it possible to use that mod with my Steam version of the game? Also, where would I find such a mod?

I really want to like this game (I love the graphics and the open world aspect of the game. The African landscape was beautiful), but if I can't remove the Malaria issue, I just can't enjoy it.
Bought it on Steam. Was so-so but quicly got boring, then UBI was making a fool of itself with DRM and decided to boycott ubi games.

All in all, some nice ideas but boring in execution.
Nice release. Only wishlisted for now due to not having good enough computer to run it (hmm, maybe my lappy might be able to...).

Have considered buying it several times on GG during sales but Tages has put me off from doing so and now I'm glad for it. Will probably buy it when I upgrade to test out the new hardware.
I don't suppose anyone has found a demo for this. I did find a news article with Ubi quoted as saying that specifically were NOT going to release one, but you never know. I'd like to check it out to make sure my fairly-potent laptop won't cough up an IC chip in its attempt to run the game. FWIW, it handles Far Cry fine, so if it doesn't take much more horsepower than that one, then I think I may pick up this title one of these days.

Edit: found the benchmark tool online: http://www.gamershell.com/download_36384_start.html?19:16:27.

Would this help?

I found that one, too, but I think it's mislabeled. Looks like It's actually the Far Cry demo, from the original game.

"This demo is also featured in PC Gamer's April 2004 demo disc."
Given that Far Cry 2 came out in 2008, and judging by the rest of the description, this sounds more like the first Far Cry's demo 2.

OK I found what I think might be a demo for Far Cry 2. It might be in Polish but if you want I can tell you what you need to know.

edit: I see a British flag so the demo shoudl be in English.

Ubisoft Weekend .
Sweet - thanks for taking the time to look for that. A couple posts up, I also linked the FC2 benchmark, so if your file doesn't pan out then the other one should.

Edit: LOL - if you hover the mouse over the download link, it automagically goes to the same page on CNET. Ah, well. I'll try out the benchmark and let y'all know if that'll run a suitable test for FC2.

Edit #2: yeah, the FC2 benchmark works. Looks like my GT 555M-equipped laptop can handle the game fine, even at 1920-1080. Sweeet.

Again, the link to the FC2 benchmark is http://www.gamershell.com/download_36384_start.html?19:16:27

Forget Bioshock (Biofail amirite?) forget Dear Esther and all that crap. It seems dumb, but Far Cry 2 is proof positive that games can be art. It has it's problems, but if you can get over the repetitive gameplay and exhausting length, Far Cry 2 sports one of the best video game stories wrapped up in ambitious open world gameplay.

Just make sure you have the gamestop preorder bonus, however you need to get it. Gameplay wise i'ts just more of the same but the affect on the story is so ludicrious it should be immidatly made illegal to cut something like that for preorder jewgolds.
