Burning Trees, Driving Cars, Exploring a Dense African Jungle, While Holding an RPG-7.

Far Cry® 2: Fortune's Edition an open-world first-person shooter in a sprawling African landscape, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

Far Cry 2 may seem like a regular FPS in an open world, very realistic and graphic, but it’s more than just a sequel to the original. Far Cry 2 takes game realism to another level: you’re always looking from first-person view, the HUD is almost non-present, the environment is fully destructible, you need to pick up an in-game object when you want to see a map or use a GPS system and take wind, rain, day and night (this affects enemy’s AI!) into consideration when planning your moves and attacks. The African setting of Far Cry 2 is rich and detailed. Each of the twenty square kilometers of beautiful wilderness--ranging from scorching deserts to thick jungles--hides weapons, objects, and missions. The level of freedom and immersion is unmatched, and the experience of constructing your own story while you take down the sadistic but intelligent arms-dealer known only as “The Jackal” is rewarding and spectacular.

Far Cry 2 isn’t a short game, either. It’s a long open-world extravaganze which takes from 40 to 70 hours to to beat. And after all this time, when you recover from malaria and bullet wounds, you can create new multiplayer worlds for up to 16 players, making full use of vehicles, weapons, and weather systems in four different game modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond and Uprising. Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition contains the full Far Cry 2 game, including all previously released patches and the Far Cry 2 Fortunes DLC with additional content like new weapons and vehicles.

Get trapped in a fantastic story and brilliant setting for only $9.99, DRM-free and equipped with goodies, only on GOG.com.
$10? Might have to put this on my wishlist.

Elmofongo: Exactly JudasIscariot makes me wonder if the guy complaining never used the AK-47 in prime condition more often

edit oh and I have seen an AK run over by a car and it still fired

JudasIscariot: Those Soviets back in the day could make a great machine gun :D.

Germans, on the other hand, tended to over-engineer their weaponry and that's why their machine guns tended to jam more often due to the whole "the more complicated you make something, the easier it is to break it" rule.
AK-47 is not a machine gun it is an assualt rifle

Yep, you're right...I haven't slept well last night so I'll chalk up my mistake to tiredness :P
Dammit GOG stop releasing games I want while I'm broke and unemployed!
Quest for Glory, Far Cry 2, Torin's Passage, Silver, Soul Reaver and so on.
You guys rock and suck at the same time. ;)
Fun game, but all the constant cross-country driving (especially later on) really annoyed me. And bus rides can only do so much.

Ah well, I'll probably grab this on sale at some point.
own this on DVD. glad to see it priced at $10 instead of $20.

might pick this up as a backup digital copy when it's on sale.

Does the Ubisoft stuff ever go on sale?

There have been a few "selected title" sales from UBI (including the M&M games just a short while ago). Also, all UBI titles were on sale 1/2 off during the Christmas sale.
Unrealistic re-spawn rate killed it for me, sadly.
Phew, I was getting worried that GOG releases only (very) old games this week, but this is at least semi-new. So something for me to buy as well, recently GOG has mostly released just oldies that I already have on my pile of CDs.

This game seems to raise high emotions, both positive and negative, which is better than mere "meh" I guess. Since I loved the first game, I've always been quite interested in this title and was sure I will buy it some day, even though from the past I remember mostly negative user reviews for it. So I'm quite happy to see it on GOG now too.
I like the first one more... Still, this is decent too.

Edmund: I a PC technician, and some of my customers bought this game, but weren't able to play it because of the DRM, so I waited for a DRM'less version, thanks GOG.

At last I can play FC2 without resorting to Piracy
Ubisoft patched the DRM out 3 years ago. I've installed the game from DVD multiple times since then and if you patch it to 1.03 before launching it never asks for the serial to activate it.

re: the game itself, I really didn't care for Far Cry/Crysis/Crysis 2, but I love Far Cry 2. If you're someone who likes player-driven experiences in open settings, it's very good. I wouldn't put it on the level of the first and third STALKER games, but calling it "STALKER in a jungle" isn't that far off. If you can accept that, outside of the game's no-fire zones, everyone is hostile to you and that enemies respawn, so finding better routes across the map is essential, then you'll be able to go into it with proper expectations. It does a great job of putting you in the middle of a fictional contemporary African civil war, and beyond your main objective you're pretty much free to do whatever you want to. The second map (as you progress through the campaign there are 2 large open maps you're given access to) is absolutely phenomenal as you can navigate nearly the entire thing by simply jumping in a boat and cruising through the massive river system. If you focus on the main campaign instead of doing the repetitive sidequests, you eventually unlock all of the same rewards that the sidequests give you, and you can literally never pass through the same guardpost more than once, which makes the respawning less of a chore. Anyway, phenomenal game, probably in my top 100 of all time.
It has a ton of issues (mostly all the driving) but if you can ignore them its worth it as the shooting is great and theres a nice weapon variety (although the dart rifle breaks waaaaaaaaaaay too fast)
Whoa, the complete FC2 without DRM for 10 bucks? Whoa! Now that's a deal! Wish'd for now.

You still can't set zebras on fire, can You?
This is a FANTASTIC shooter. One of the few ambitious ones. Not perfect, no. But I loved it for every second of those 35 hours I played it. You just have to learn to use the buses, learn to avoid military checkpoints, and learn to appreciate slow pace and fantastic atmosphere.

Very happy to see it here for good price. I already have collector edition, so I will pass...for now.
