Burning Trees, Driving Cars, Exploring a Dense African Jungle, While Holding an RPG-7.

Far Cry® 2: Fortune's Edition an open-world first-person shooter in a sprawling African landscape, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

Far Cry 2 may seem like a regular FPS in an open world, very realistic and graphic, but it’s more than just a sequel to the original. Far Cry 2 takes game realism to another level: you’re always looking from first-person view, the HUD is almost non-present, the environment is fully destructible, you need to pick up an in-game object when you want to see a map or use a GPS system and take wind, rain, day and night (this affects enemy’s AI!) into consideration when planning your moves and attacks. The African setting of Far Cry 2 is rich and detailed. Each of the twenty square kilometers of beautiful wilderness--ranging from scorching deserts to thick jungles--hides weapons, objects, and missions. The level of freedom and immersion is unmatched, and the experience of constructing your own story while you take down the sadistic but intelligent arms-dealer known only as “The Jackal” is rewarding and spectacular.

Far Cry 2 isn’t a short game, either. It’s a long open-world extravaganze which takes from 40 to 70 hours to to beat. And after all this time, when you recover from malaria and bullet wounds, you can create new multiplayer worlds for up to 16 players, making full use of vehicles, weapons, and weather systems in four different game modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond and Uprising. Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition contains the full Far Cry 2 game, including all previously released patches and the Far Cry 2 Fortunes DLC with additional content like new weapons and vehicles.

Get trapped in a fantastic story and brilliant setting for only $9.99, DRM-free and equipped with goodies, only on GOG.com.
Great release!
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
First: Awesome release. I really like how Ubisoft is dumping all their older titles on GOG. As long as they keep doing this, they can put as much crappy DRM on their new releases as they want. I don't care, and I won't even bitch about what a terrible company they are anymore.
So Kudos to GOG and Ubi.

Second: I don't know if I should get this. I always thought everyone hated that game, but now I'm hearing mostly praise.
So, let's make it simple: If I loved S.T.A.L.K.E.R., will I enjoy this?
woop woop!!
I still can't imagine why they called it "Far Cry 2" when it apparently has nothing at all to do with anything from the original game. Oh well.

For a few cheap laughs, Unskippable did an amusing episode mocking the opening cinematic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOl2C9G8j68

Sorry to all the fans out there, but that`s the way I feel about it.

-The enemies respawn immediately after you left a checkpoint "cleared".
-In towns there are "safe zones" and "enemy zones" (I don`t remember the ingame-term,...it`s a long time, since I "enjoyed" this), the first on one side of the road, the latter on the opposite site of the same road - when you step over the line - you are getting shot.
-Weapons jamming all the time...if this was happening in real wars in that way - there would be no wars - never again!
-Pills must be swallowed all the time... (man, how many bitter pills must be swallowed, if you want to play this game...literally)

So, if you want to see nice graphics - go and get it!
If you don`t mind the things I wrote above - go get it!

But if you`re no graphics whore and you do bother about unrealistic weapon failure, endless and immediately respawning enemies and a "free" world, where everyone is after you without a reason - well,...then you better think twice, before you get it.

PS: to be honest - I don`t know whether there are some mods, that get rid of all the annoyances, this game features - if so, post `em here, please - maybe I will give it a second chance.
I would be inclined to suggest you are exaggerating just a tad :)

I think enemies respawn in most sandbox games, but even if they do, it takes but a minute to clear them, more shooting in a FPS shouldnt be an issue.

Yes there are Factions and its easy to avoid "stepping across the road".

The weapons dont jam all the time, there are caches to refresh your weapons all over the place and although its a game, weapon decay adds a sense of of realism to the proceedings.

You dont have to swallow the pills all the time, you do it periodically and when you are running out you can see how many are left, so you know its time to go get some more, think of them as health potions I guess.

I'm not trying to argue with you mate, you are as entitled to dislike the mechanics as I am to like them, but I think you are just exaggerating to make a point. :)

There are mods to edit nearly every facet of the game if you wish.

I personaly love the weapon jamming system it's realistic and not only that all the weapons has a different level of reliability, the AK-47 is the least jamming gun in the game also the pill missions don't annoy me and neither does the respawning enemies but I will admit this game has less to do I wish they could have made this game more like GTA with more variety in vehicles, and quest give you more money and more variety in quest like hunting animals and selling their body parts for money plus all this realism
I bought this game and later discover that have only 3 installations.

Now doesnt have DRM in Gog, but it feels bad if you support ubisoft :/

Hey, after all...this is the internet! I thought we are expected to exaggerate!?

;)
This release is nice, and the price is nice too! That should have been the price of AC1 and HOMM5. That's the price I'm ready to pay to 4-years-old or more games. I wishlist this game because I already own it on console, but I'll surely grab it at the first promo. :)

From the little that I have read about the real AK-47, much has been written about how even after it's been dunked in swamp water, amogst other things, it still fired as if nothing happened. The Russians built it to be simple and less prone to jamming due to unfavorable conditions...
I a PC technician, and some of my customers bought this game, but weren't able to play it because of the DRM, so I waited for a DRM'less version, thanks GOG.

At last I can play FC2 without resorting to Piracy
Exactly JudasIscariot makes me wonder if the guy complaining never used the AK-47 in prime condition more often

edit oh and I have seen an AK run over by a car and it still fired

Those Soviets back in the day could make a great machine gun :D.

Germans, on the other hand, tended to over-engineer their weaponry and that's why their machine guns tended to jam more often due to the whole "the more complicated you make something, the easier it is to break it" rule.
Nice I've put off buying this in the stores over and over again, great to see it finally at GOG looks like I can start moving from just replacing my Game CDs with GOG versions to buying my new games here. Shelf space will love it, disk space will not be so well off :)
