Grow stronger turn, by turn.

Eador: Genesis, an impressive turn-based strategy with RPG elements, that sends you on a quest to conquer a shattered realm, is now available on GOG.com, for only $4.79! That's 20% off, this week only!

The world is no longer whole. All that remains are the islands of existence drifting aimlessly through the endless ocean of emptiness and oblivion. This broken realm houses many aspiring despots, hell-bent on uniting the floating shards of land under their own rule. There was, however, no single monarch who could achieve that feat since the time of the cataclysm. That won't stop you from trying, of course. Is it because you're even more hungry for power and wealth then your opponents? Or maybe you see a higher purpose in domination over Eador? Maybe you believe, that the world united under the rule of one strong leader will finally begin to heal? As one of the Masters, you're free to exercise your will however you see fit. But know this: history will judge you.

Eador: Genesis delivers a turn-based strategy experience inspired by the classics of the genre. It's a multi-layered game, equally stressing the importance of your kingdom's development and management, and your tactical battlefield abilities. There's also a strongly accented RPG element, that goes so well with the imaginatively crafted fantasy setting of the game. With over 170 structures to build, 80 magic spells to master, and 70 kinds of units to lead into the battle, each with its own goals and defining characteristic--this title will keep you busy for many long evenings.

Looking for a well-polished turn-based strategy game that's immersive, enthralling, and deep? Get Eador: Genesis, for only $4.79! That's 20% off until the promo ends on Tuesday, December 11, at 10:59AM GMT.

AquaticIdealist: what does this game offer that's different (or better)?
Pretty much everything apart from hexes, as it would seem.

AquaticIdealist: Wesnoth is freeware, and open-source at that. Most gamers here, including yours truly, do have limited funds, so if one excellent game of the same genre and (it seems) with a similar 'skin' and 'setting' is free, what does this game offer that's different (or better)?
I haven't played that game so I'm not sure if what I will post is true, but based on the trailer, and features described on the webpage, that game is offering nothing more except combat. Eador from other side is about exploring provinces, managing castle and conquered lands, hundreds and thousands of random encounters, building castle, experiencing heroes and many many more,

Oh and a combat also of course.

Battle for Wesnoth focuses almost exclusively on combat, while this, from what I understand, has a great deal of management as well.
Well, I couldn't resist,, doesn't happen often, that I buy a game on a short description and some screenshots. For once I did not even archive it, but immediatly started playing. So far I am not regretting it. If you like Master of Magic, Age of Wonders or Heroes, you will like this, too. Those are the three games the gog game installer recommends, incidentally.
The tutorial is excellent, it feels like playing Kings Bounty. It even has ironic dialogue, bit like an RPG.
The events you can encounter while searching provinces add alot to the game. Leveling the hero seems much fun and very complex.
I would say the game is very easy to learn, but hopefully hard to master.
Greenlight version looks pretty nice

Thanks for the quick responses! I've played Wesnoth for some time, so my gut reaction is to wonder what makes this game different (sadly I haven't heard about this game until its release here on GOG, but that's the beauty of this service: I've been introduced to a lot of great games through this.)

It's just that a lot of us aren't exactly loaded, so we'd jump on free games once we have the chance. I guess it's more FYI for anyone who loves the genre. I'll give Eador a closer look, then.
When I saw Eador is coming to GOG (that was yesterday) and I checked what is it, I saw Masters of the Broken World screenshots.

This is not Masters of the Broken World, but I bought it anyway, because it's cheap, and because I love HOMM3. I hope Masters of the Broken World will be released here too.

AquaticIdealist: Good day, everyone.

It's great that GOG has so many turn-based games in its collection. This is truly an excellent genre.

One look at the screenshots does make me rather curious, though. How is this game different from the following title:

The Battle for Wesnoth

http://wesnoth.org/

?

Wesnoth is freeware, and open-source at that. Most gamers here, including yours truly, do have limited funds, so if one excellent game of the same genre and (it seems) with a similar 'skin' and 'setting' is free, what does this game offer that's different (or better)?
Battle of Wesnoth is more or less a mission-based strategy game, for lack of a better set of words, i.e. you have one map get with some objectives to complete, you then move on to another map etc. etc. In Eador, you can go back and forth on the same map, exploring hexes, and doing all kinds of stuff.
I havent bought anything since the pick 5 promo. And rarely do I pick anything up on release day if I can live without, but this game looks very interesting an appealing to me. Never heard of it before. Nice release GOG.

I would say the same thing. This is going to be a very impulsive purchase for me having never heard of it. I do happen to love MoM, AoW,HoMM, and Kings Bounty. I didnt know the installer had recommendations feature. I was thinking the other day that a if you like this type feature would be nice on the game card page. Thanks for the info. You've pretty much helped me affirm my decision to make an impulsive purchase and hopefully not reget it. Fortunately I've managed to save some ducats by not purchasing anything recently.

LordCinnamon: Thanks! Say, does the game come with a manual? I don't see it in the extras.
avatar
JuriJ: Unfortunately there is only fan-made manual and it is available only in Russian. On the official website is also very useful encyclopaedia but it's also only in Russian.
Теперь мы все должны учить русский! :P
Ok, Just took the plunge,

After a couple of minutes into the tutorial here are my thoughts:

I have never seen anything like it and its not a blatant HoMM clone. One hex (even your own starting demesne) has a lot going on like you could still explore it and have places infested by monster or there are some brigands waiting to kill you. It is a totally different beast and I have never scratched the surface yet. My only complaint is that why the heck is it released the night before I get back to work after a long 4 day off!!

All in all its great value for money. I can't believe its not their $9.99 game. Only thing lacking is the omph and animation of HoMM III but all in all a good game so far.

I blame Google Translate.

EDIT: But then, I also blame Google Translate for my English mistakes. So make what you will of it. ;)

JuriJ: And finally you know that I'm not allowed to tell if certain titles will be or will be not released on GOG. Let's try to keep all our releases as unexpected for you as they are for now. :)
Speaking about Russian games, please try to release more King's Bounty games.
Just got it and have played for about an hour so far , its extemely easy to et into and good to play has a real mix of gameplay elements , even enough to finally give me a little Fantasy General fix !!
Dont hesitate to pick this up at this price guys :-)
