Commander Keen is a series where you play as Billy Blaze. It's one of the few games on Steam that doesn't have any DRM, and though the collection isn't quite complete, the price is right. The original trilogy is arguably better than the first two Duke Nukem games, while Commander Keen 4 and 5 might be an unfair comparison.

I also think the Bio Menace games are much better than Duke Nukem 1 and 2, as well as the original Commander Keen trilogy, and that's [url=ftp://ftp.3drealms.com/freeware/bmfreew.zip]free[/url]. I liked Duke Nukem 1 more than it's sequel. Duke Nukem 3D, however, is among my top favorite games on GOG, along with Blood and Shadow Warrior, the latter of which was my first "instabuy" on GOG since Anachronox back in March.

Anachronox was created by the fine folks at Ion Storm, who were also responsible for Daikatana. I loved Daikatana, which puts me squarely into the minority. It is said that Dopefish lives, and indeed he does. Not only does he appear in Anachronox and countless other games, but Dopefish makes a hidden cameo during the third episode of Daikatana, tucked away somewhere in his natural habitat. Dopefish is a character who originally appeared in the Commander Keen series. And now, we have come full circle. Return to paragraph one now if you wish to continue the cycle.

That is what I have to say about Commander Keen. ;D

farlark: IIRC, these games were bundled with the disc version of Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition. So, even in the mid-90's, they were considered a bit too cruddy to be anything but disc goodies.

That said, it's nice seeing more Apogee games in the GOG library.
Looking at the screenshots from behind my harsh wire-rim (as opposed to rose-tinted) glasses I'm wont to agree.

I have no interest in this game, but all the mentions of Apogee did burst a nostalgia pod inside my brain of the name of an ancient platformer I used to play 20 years ago on my family's desktop fossil (an IBM-PC 8088). Didn't remember the title, just the name of the hero, the unfortunately named "Nevada Smith" (not quite as cool as Carolina Jones). A little googling later, and I dug up the title: Pharaoh's Tomb. Used to be obsessed with this game, like some people were over, I dunno, old Metroid titles.

Was pleased to see the whole series is freeware Freeware now, like those ancient "Kroz" games. May just have to download it for the hell of it; like many of these old shareware titles, I only played the free "first" episodes of the games, having no money as a kid to buy full versions.

As a 90s kid, I remember the Duke Nukem fandom was only really big after 3D was made. The first two are more a curiousity than anything else. I would like a really good Contra-style 2D Duke for this generation (Wayforward would probably do a good job).

TheEnigmaticT: "Sitting" on them? Not long at all. I believe they were completely ready to release about two or three weeks ago, which is when we dropped them into the schedule. We don't go out of our way to prepare things and then taunt you with them. ;)
I had the same feeling of Jimmy, mainly because you already had other Duke games on the site for so long.

I don't see what was wrong with that sentence? For sure, it's sad that many people don't realize that Grand Theft Auto didn't start on the PS2, or that Duke Nukem wasn't always a series of first person shooters, but it certainly isn't uncommon. Some people probably didn't realize that the 3 in 3-D also meant it was the third game in the series for Duke Nukem, and for Grand Theft Auto, two of the "GTA 3" games weren't numbered, so it's kinda understandable that people may have the wrong impression of which order they were released in, thinking GTA 3 was released after Vice City and San Andreas, and thus being the third game. Heck, there are even people who think Halo was the first console FPS, or even pioneered the genre.

Actually my post wasn't supposed to make as much sense as you seemed to expect.
First I meant that "most people" part. "Most people" have probably not ever played any GTA game in their life. ;P
Secondly I meant that most people who have played a GTA game have probably started with GTA IV as (AFAIK) it's the most popular title in the series. But sure, GTA III was quite probably the first real mainstream title of the series.
