Run-n-gun like it's 1990s!

Duke Nukem 1+2, a bundle of two classic 1990s run-and-gun platformers that sparked into a flame of legend, is now available on GOG.com, for only $5.99.

We are not alone in the Universe. In fact, it's swarming with evil alien monsters. The only goal in their existence is to invade our planet, steal our stuff and eat us. Earth isn't doing so well either. Mad scientists hell-bent on world domination. Doomsday devices are a dime a dozen. So, if you were wondering why we're not living under the rule of a crazy scientist and his cybernetic army, or why haven't we been all eaten by aliens--you should know who to thank for all that. Duke Nukem. The bishop of badassery.

Released in the early 1990s, the Duke Nukem 1+2 games defined the standards for the run-and-gun platformer genre on the PC. But not only that. They did much more. They started the career of one of the gaming's most iconic heroes: Duke Nukem. Being great platformers on their own, full of creative level design, exceptional ideas, and tongue-in-cheek humor, they still provide bucketloads of prime entertainment. Before Duke Nukem went 3D, he totally rocked the 2D. Here's your chance to see it for yourself!

Find out why Duke's autobiography was titled "Why I'm so Great", get Duke Nukem 1+2 for only $5.99!

haydenaurion: That reminds me, hope to see the Epic Games platformers Jazz Jackrabbit and Jill of the Jungle here too eventually.

Never heard of that one. Hmmmm, the MobyGames page says EA published it originally, I wonder if EA still owns the rights? Looks rather interesting in any case.
nostalgia; ctrl for jumping, alt for shooting and arrows for movement. Double up the chicken

It's so weird using those old control schemes compared to WASD+mouse.
Every day I learn something new.

Been Playing games for over 25 years now but today I learned for the first time that The King didn't start with DukeNukem 3d.

Serious gap in education closed thanks to gog.

Yes, though GOG would have to figure out how to make some of those worth 5.99. Hopefully we could see a Jazz and Jazz 2 bundle. Not sure about Jill; maybe we could get one of those as a freebie? (That would be awesome. ;)
Also would LOVE Nam. Same goes for it's sister game: WWII.

I still own both of these on CD from back in the day. I've tried to get them running through dos box but I have no idea how to do it :(
Finally! A coupe of games with balls of 2D steel! :-D

Not sure what you mean by "one of those", there is only one Jill of the Jungle :P

Unless you count Vinyl Goddess from Mars as its sequel, which many do.

I meant a good old side-scroller or platformer in general. The last freebie we got was Warsaw, which is nice being in the vein of old-school shooters, but I'd still like to see more good old freeware and abandonware here.

Oh, and this says a "trilogy". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jill_of_the_Jungle
Would the full trilogy be worth 6 bucks? Somehow I don't think so, but I could certainly be wrong...

Would be worth it to me... :-)

Also, speaking of Epic, isn't One Must Fall 2097 freeware now? Would be nice to see that on GOG.

Yup. Same for Xargon and Traffic Department 2192.

Those are just the episodes to the game. Duke Nukem 1 was the same way.

They don't change much except the levels, some graphics and some sounds. If they ever came here, it would be $6. Unless Epic is feeling greedy or something.

I was actually going to ask about this: is the reason GOG doesn't pursue obtaining more old freeware like this because there's no return on investment? (other than maybe some people saying, "Oh hey! They have Xargon for free. I'll sign up and maybe purchase some games." I can understand not getting terrible old games or those whose rights are too complex, but what of titles like these?

I would love it if they got Traffic Department 2192 on GOG. Played the shareware version of that all the time back in the day. Had a very mature story for the time period.
